Weltlog Woche 24 – 2015

Möchten Sie nicht auch ein Silvester ohne Knallerei? Wir haben letzte Woche im Parlament ein totales Verbot von Konsumentenfeuerwerk, für spätestens 2020, gefordert. Die Vielzahl der, oft sehr jungen, Unfallopfer, großen Belästigungen, der Schäden in Millionenhöhe und der Gewalt gegenüber den Mitarbeitern der Rettungdienste und der Polizei, muss ein Ende haben. Wir feuern die Feuerwerksdebatte im Parlament immer wieder an und erhalten Unterstützung einer Mehrheit der Niederländer und der Bürgermeister, Ärzte, Polizei und Feuerwehr.

Eine Mehrheit der niederländischen Bevölkerung lehnt, zum Glück, mittlerweile die Feuerwerkstradition, aufgrund der vielen Verletzten und der großen Belästigung, ab. Unter dem wachsenden öffentlichen Druck beschloss die Regierung im vergangenen Jahr endlich, den Zeitraum, in dem es erlaubt ist Feuerwerk abzufeuern, zu begrenzen. Was ein guter Schritt in die richtige Richtung, aber noch keine Lösung des Problems ist. Ein vollständiges Verbot auf das Abfeuern von Feuerwerkskörpern durch Einzelpersonen ist die einzige Lösung. Dafür kann es dann von Experten organisierte Feuerwerksshows geben.

Bis zu diesem Totalverbot müssen alle konkreten Zwischenschritte gegangen werden, damit die Zahl der Opfer, die Belästigung und der Schaden begrenzt wird. Viele Gemeinden wollen selbst ein Verbot auf Feuerwerk einrichten können, aber im Moment ist das nicht möglich. Wir möchten, dass die Gemeinden diese Freiheit erhalten. Auch der Zeitraum in dem das Abfeuern erlaubt ist muss weiter eingeschränkt werden: Nur noch zwischen 23:00 und 1:00 am 31. Dezember (im Moment ist es erlaubt zwischen 18:00 und 2:00 Uhr).

Unsere Argumente wurden, während der Anhörung im Parlament, nochmal extra von Ärzten, Bürgermeistern und der Feuerwehr, unterstrichen. Auch sie wollen weitergehende Maßnahmen mit dem Ziel, das Konsumentenfeuerwerk vollständig verbieten zu lassen!

Unsere Europafraktion ist eine Kampagne zum Schutze unserer Natur begonnen. Jeder kann mitmachen! Und das ist auch bitter nötig, denn Brüssel will keine „lästigen“ Gesetze mehr, die die Natur beschützen. Die Europäische Kommission fragt darum online, ob die vorhandenen Naturschutzgesetze der EU immer noch von Nutzen sind.

Die Umfrage richtet sich vor allem an große Betriebe, aber auch Sie können ihre Stimme hören lassen und deutlich machen, dass es wichtig ist Naturschutzgebiete und Tiere in den Niederlanden – und im Rest Europas – (weiterhin) zu schützen!

Aber Vorsicht, obwohl die Naturschutzregelungen nicht perfekt sind, sind wir, auf jeden Fall bei unseren Antworten in dieser Umfrage, sehr positiv, was die europäischen Vogel- und Habitat-Richtlinien betrifft, um eine weitere Verschlechterung der Naturschutzvorschriften zu verhindern.

Worum geht es eigentlich? Europäische und nationale Gesetze regeln, dass wertvolle Naturgebiete geschützt werden müssen. So darf man zum Beispiel nicht einfach eine Fabrik, eine Autobahn oder einen Megastall auf der Heide, oder in den Dünen, bauen. Und das muss so bleiben!

Brüssel hingegen ist der Naturschutz zu viel, weil man dort der Meinung ist, dass die Wirtschaft wachsen muss und wird und kein Baum oder Tier diesem Wachstum im Wege stehen darf. Die Europäische Kommission ist darum mit einer Studie begonnen, die den Nutzen der europäischen Naturschutzgesetze in Zweifel ziehen soll. Helfen Sie uns darum dabei, dies zu verhindern und schließen Sie sich der Aktion Keine Zensur auf Natur! an.

Letzten Freitag war weltweiter Tag der Umwelt. Eine gute Gelegenheit unsere Botschaft zu verkünden und auf unseren Film One Single Planet aufmerksam zu machen!

Do you also wish to have a bang-free New Year’s Eve? Last week in the Lower House, we called for a complete ban on consumer fireworks by 2020 at the latest. The flow of hundreds of mostly very young victims must end, as must the severe inconvenience, the damage running into millions and the violence against aid workers during New Year’s Eve. We are the driving force of the fireworks debate in the Lower House and we receive support from a majority of the Dutch population, mayors, doctors, police and fire brigade.

Fortunately, a majority of the Dutch population now oppose the dangerous firework tradition in our country due to the many casualties and severe inconvenience. Under growing public pressure, the Cabinet finally decided last year to restrict the period in which fireworks can be set off. That is a step in the right direction, but not a solution to the problem. The only solution is a total ban on having fireworks set off by individuals. This could be replaced by a fireworks show organised by professionals.

In the run-up to this total ban, we must now take specific interim action to minimise casualties, inconvenience and damage. Many municipalities want to be able to impose a fireworks ban themselves, but that is currently impossible. We want municipalities to get this freedom indeed. The period in which fireworks may be set off must also be restricted drastically: only between 11pm and 1am on 31 December (it is now permitted between 6pm and 2am).

During a recent hearing in the Lower House, our arguments were further emphasised by doctors, mayors and the fire brigade. They too want more drastic measures, with a total ban on consumer fireworks as the ultimate goal!

Our European faction has started a campaign to save our nature. Everyone can join! And that is desperately needed, too, because Brussels is fed up with ‘difficult’ acts to protect nature. The European Commission has therefore put a survey online with the question whether the EU’s existing acts to protect nature are still useful.

The survey is primarily intended for major companies, but you can also make your voice heard and make it clear that it is important to (continue to) protect nature areas and animals in the Netherlands – and in the rest of Europe!

But please pay attention, even though European nature legislation is not perfect, we are nonetheless very positive in our survey answers with regard to the European Birds and Habitats Directive in order to prevent a further deterioration of nature legislation.

So what is this about exactly? European and national acts regulate that valuable nature areas must be protected. This means, for example, that you cannot just build a factory, motorway or factory farm on the Veluwe countryside or in a dune park. And it has to stay that way!

But Brussels is fed up with the protection of nature because it believes the economy must and will grow and no tree or animal may stand in the way of that growth. The European Commission has therefore launched a research to cast doubt on the use of European nature legislation. Help us to prevent this and join the No censorship on nature! campaign now.
