¿Tú también quieres un fin de año sin petardos? La pasada semana hemos defendido en el parlamento holandés la prohibición total de fuegos artificiales para uso particular, no más tarde de 2020. Hay que poner fin a la lista de cientos de víctimas (casi siempre muy jóvenes), a las grandes molestias, a los daños materiales de millones de euros y a la violencia contra los servicios públicos durante el cambio de año. Nuestro partido se ha erigido en instigador del debate sobre los fuegos artificiales en el parlamento y ya contamos con el apoyo de la mayoría de los ciudadanos, alcaldes, médicos, policías y bomberos.

Debido al gran número de personas que sufren heridas graves y a las muchas molestias que se causan, la mayoría de los holandeses ya está en contra de la peligrosa tradición del uso de fuegos artificiales por parte de particulares existente en nuestro país. Ante la creciente presión social, el Gobierno holandés decidió el año pasado limitar por fin las horas de autorización para encender fuegos artificiales. Se trata de un paso en la buena dirección, pero el problema sigue sin resolver. La única solución es una prohibición total de los fuegos artificiales para particulares. A cambio se pueden ofrecer espectáculos de fuegos artificiales organizados por profesionales.

En el camino hacia la prohibición total debemos ir dando pasos concretos para limitar el número de víctimas, las molestias y los daños. Muchos ayuntamientos quieren que se les transfiera la competencia para implantar ellos mismos la prohibición total, pero hoy por hoy no es posible. Nosotros defendemos el derecho de los ayuntamientos a gozar de esa competencia. También es necesario reducir drásticamente el periodo de tiempo durante el cual está permitido encender fuegos artificiales. Debería estar permitido sólo entre las 23:00 y la 01:00 del 31 de diciembre (ahora está permitido entre las 18:00 y las 02:00 horas).

Durante una sesión parlamentaria reciente, nuestros argumentos recibieron apoyo adicional de médicos, alcaldes y bomberos. Ellos también abogan por adoptar medidas drásticas dirigidas en última instancia a la prohibición total de fuegos artificiales para uso particular.

Nuestra sección europea ha iniciado una campaña para salvar la naturaleza y todo el mundo puede participar. Necesitamos muchos apoyos, porque en Bruselas algunos están hartos de la complejidad de las normas para la protección de la naturaleza. Por ello, la Comisión Europea ha puesto en marcha una encuesta en línea para averiguar si son útiles las normas existentes para la protección de la naturaleza.

La encuesta va dirigida sobre todo a las grandes empresas, pero tú también puedes hacer oír tu voz y dejar bien claro lo importante que es seguir protegiendo la fauna y el medio ambiente de Holanda y el resto de Europa.

Pero fíjate bien, porque aunque las normativas europeas sobre protección del medioambiente no son perfectas, nosotros somos muy positivos en nuestras respuestas sobre la directiva de aves y hábitats, concebida para evitar una mayor destrucción del medioambiente.

¿De qué se trata ahora? Las leyes nacionales y europeas regulan la protección de espacios naturales valiosos. Por ejemplo, no está permitido construir una fábrica o un megaestablo o poner una autopista en el parque nacional del Veluwe o en una zona de dunas. ¡Y nosotros queremos que siga siendo así!

Pero en Bruselas, algunos están hartos de normas de protección de la naturaleza porque según ellos la economía tiene que crecer, y no permitirán que un árbol o un animal obstaculicen ese crecimiento. Ese es el motivo por el que la Comisión Europea ha iniciado esta investigación, con el fin de poner en duda la legislación europea para la protección del medioambiente. Do you also wish to have a bang-free New Year’s Eve? Last week in the Lower House, we called for a complete ban on consumer fireworks by 2020 at the latest. The flow of hundreds of mostly very young victims must end, as must the severe inconvenience, the damage running into millions and the violence against aid workers during New Year’s Eve. We are the driving force of the fireworks debate in the Lower House and we receive support from a majority of the Dutch population, mayors, doctors, police and fire brigade.

Fortunately, a majority of the Dutch population now oppose the dangerous firework tradition in our country due to the many casualties and severe inconvenience. Under growing public pressure, the Cabinet finally decided last year to restrict the period in which fireworks can be set off. That is a step in the right direction, but not a solution to the problem. The only solution is a total ban on having fireworks set off by individuals. This could be replaced by a fireworks show organised by professionals.

In the run-up to this total ban, we must now take specific interim action to minimise casualties, inconvenience and damage. Many municipalities want to be able to impose a fireworks ban themselves, but that is currently impossible. We want municipalities to get this freedom indeed. The period in which fireworks may be set off must also be restricted drastically: only between 11pm and 1am on 31 December (it is now permitted between 6pm and 2am).

During a recent hearing in the Lower House, our arguments were further emphasised by doctors, mayors and the fire brigade. They too want more drastic measures, with a total ban on consumer fireworks as the ultimate goal!

Our European faction has started a campaign to save our nature. Everyone can join! And that is desperately needed, too, because Brussels is fed up with ‘difficult’ acts to protect nature. The European Commission has therefore put a survey online with the question whether the EU’s existing acts to protect nature are still useful.

The survey is primarily intended for major companies, but you can also make your voice heard and make it clear that it is important to (continue to) protect nature areas and animals in the Netherlands – and in the rest of Europe!

But please pay attention, even though European nature legislation is not perfect, we are nonetheless very positive in our survey answers with regard to the European Birds and Habitats Directive in order to prevent a further deterioration of nature legislation.

So what is this about exactly? European and national acts regulate that valuable nature areas must be protected. This means, for example, that you cannot just build a factory, motorway or factory farm on the Veluwe countryside or in a dune park. And it has to stay that way!

But Brussels is fed up with the protection of nature because it believes the economy must and will grow and no tree or animal may stand in the way of that growth. The European Commission has therefore launched a research to cast doubt on the use of European nature legislation. Help us to prevent this and join the No censorship on nature! campaign now.
