Die Kabinettsformation dauert bereits 120 Tage und die Zusammenstellung der Parteien prophezeit wenig Gutes für diesen Planeten. Das ist sehr schade, denn wir haben hier und jetzt die Chance, die Zukunft für Tier, Mensch, Natur und Umwelt zu verändern. Wir wünschen uns ein grünes Kabinett, welches in der Lage ist, ein durchgreifendes Klimaabkommen abzuschließen. Themen, bei denen wir grundsätzlich anderer Meinung sind, können wir dann auf sich beruhen lassen, das bedeutet, dass wir mit unterschiedlichen Mehrheiten letztendlich doch zu guten, nachhaltigen Entscheidungen kommen. Auf diese Weise erreichen wir das, was wirklich wichtig ist.

Im niederländischen Parlament konnten wir viel Erfolg verbuchen. Unser Antrag, auf Verschärfung des Hitzeprotokolls für Tiertransporte ist letzte Woche angenommen worden. Das Hitzeprotokoll für Tiertransporte soll ernsthaftes Tierleiden in Transportwagen vermeiden. Diese Vorschrift tritt allerdings erst in Kraft, wenn es an vier aufeinanderfolgenden Tagen über 27 Grad gewesen ist. Und es gibt allerlei Ausnahmen, wodurch die Tiere letztendlich doch Hitzestress ausgesetzt werden. Die Partei für die Tiere will diese tierunwürdigen Transporte beenden, deshalb sorgt dieser angenommen Antrag zumindest dafür, dass Tiere nicht länger in glühend heißen Frachtwagen transportiert werden dürfen.

Unsere Europarlamentarierin Anja Hazekamp hat die norwegische Walfischjagd auf die europäische Agenda gesetzt. Während eines Zusammentreffens des Europaparlaments in der letzten Woche hat Anja den Vorschlag gemacht, europäische Häfen als Umschlagplatz für Walfischfleisch zu schließen. Pro Jahr werden tausende Kilos an Walfischfleisch über europäische Häfen von Norwegen nach Japan verschifft. Obwohl der Verkauf von Walfischfleisch innerhalb der europäischen Union verboten ist, werden auf den europäischen Häfen als Umschlagplatz beide Augen zugedrückt. Im September wird das Europaparlament über den Vorschlag der Partei für die Tiere abstimmen.

Letzte Woche bekam ich sehr angenehmen Besuch von Tamasin Ramsay von der Animal Justice Party, unsere Schwesterpartei in Australien. Sie haben einen Sitz im Senat von New South Wales und kämpfen jetzt für ein Tiertransportverbot in Australien, das wäre ein wirklich revolutionärer Schritt. Tamasin hat uns um Rat gefragt, wir man am besten vorgehen könne.

Es ist unglaublich, wie hart unsere spanische Schwesterpartei PACMA für Mensch, Tier und unseren Planeten arbeitet. Sie haben um Aufmerksamkeit für das San Fermin Festival gebeten, welches letzte Woche begonnen ist. Während des neun Tage dauernden Festivals werden Stiere durch die engen Gassen der spanischen Stadt Pamplona gehetzt, um anschließend in einer Arena einen grausamen Tod zu sterben. Bevor die Hetze beginnt, werden die Stiere mit Elektroschockern und scharfen Stöcken gequält. Im September organisiert PACMA in Madrid eine Massendemonstration gegen solche Formen der Tierquälerei. Hier sehen Sie die beeindruckenden Bilder der Demonstration im letzten Jahr.

Hunderttausende Menschen aus der ganzen Welt haben Ende Juni am Marsch gegen LHBTI+ Rechte, der sogenannten World Pride teilgenommen. Es waren sicherlich eine Millionen Menschen auf den Beinen. Auch unsere spanische Schwesterpartei PACMA war mit von der Partie. PACMA legt Wert auf Nichtdiskriminierung. PACMA: “Wir müssen für eine bessere Welt für alle Bewohner dieses Planeten kämpfen, egal um welche Sorte, Rasse, Geschlecht oder Identität es sich handelt.” Das sehen wir in den Niederlanden ganz genauso! Im August wird unsere Partei darum auch wiederum an der Amsterdamer Gay Pride teilnehmen. Sehen wir Sie dann auch dort?

Der Sommer steht vor der Tür, unsere portugiesische Schwesterpartei PAN wird allerdings wenig Ruhe finden. Am 1. Oktober finden nämlich die portugiesischen Gemeindewahlen statt: es wird dann in 308 portugiesischen Gemeinden gewählt. Ich wünsche meinen Kollegen bereits schon jetzt ganz viel Erfolg bei den Vorbereitungen!

Die Sommerpause im Bundestag hat angefangen. Im September erscheint mein neuer Weltlog. Bis dahin bin ich auf Facebook und Twitter zu finden.

The Dutch government formation has taken 120 days already and the composition of the parties at the negotiating table promises very little for the planet. That’s a shame because we now have the opportunity to make a real difference for the future of animals, humans, nature and the environment. We would like to see a green government that is able to conclude a strong climate agreement. Subjects we substantially disagree on can be considered as free issues, which means that we could still come to a good, sustainable policy with changing majorities. That way we can really go for the overarching interest.

We were successful again in the Dutch parliament. Our motion to extend the heat protocol for animal transports was passed last week. The heat protocol for animal transports intends to prevent the serious suffering of animals in transport trailers. However, this regulation only comes into effect when it has been above 27˚C (80.6 F) for four days in a row. And there are all kinds of exceptional provisions that cause animals to still frequently suffer heat stress in practice. The Party for the Animals wants to end the inhumane treatment of livestock during transports and the motion adopted will in any case ensure that animals will no longer be put on transport in steamy hot trailers.

Our MEP Anja Hazekamp has put Norwegian whale hunting on the European agenda. At a meeting of the European Parliament last week, Anja proposed to close European ports for the transit of whale meat. Each year, thousands of kilos of whale meat are transported via European ports from Norway to Japan. Although it is prohibited to sell whale meat in the European Union, the transit of it via EU ports is turned a blind eye to. The European Parliament will vote on the Party for the Animals’ proposal in September.

Last week, I received a pleasant visit from Tamasin Ramsay of the Animal Justice Party, our sister party in Australia. They have a seat in the Senate of New South Wales and are now fighting for a ban on animal transports in Australia, which would be a revolutionary step forward. Tamasin asked us for advice on how to best proceed on this.

It is also fantastic to see how our Spanish sister party PACMA is working hard for humans, animals and the planet. For example, they are asking for attention for the San Fermín Festival that started last week. In the Spanish city of Pamplona bulls are released in the small streets, during the nine-day festival, after which they are chased into the arena where they finally suffer a gruesome death. Prior to the bull run, the bulls are tortured with electric shocks and poked with sharp sticks. PACMA is organising a mass protest in Madrid in September against such forms of animal abuse. Hundreds of thousands of people from all over the world marched for LHBTI+ rights, the World Pride in Madrid at the end of June. There were at least one million people. Our Spanish sister party PACMA also took part in it. PACMA emphasises the importance of non-discrimination and pride events. PACMA: “We must fight for a better world for all inhabitants of the planet, no matter what species, race, gender or identity. We totally agree with this in the Netherlands. For that reason, our party will again participate in the Amsterdam Gay Pride. Will we see you there?

Summer is starting but our Portuguese sister party PAN will not be able to take a rest. On 1 October, local elections will be held in Portugal: elections are on in 308 Portuguese municipalities. I wish our colleagues good luck with all preparations!
