Coaliția de guvernare este deja de 120 de zile în formare și componența partidelor de la masa de negocieri nu este de bun augur pentru planetă. Acest lucru este regretabil, deoarece acum avem posibilitatea de a schimba cu adevărat ceva pentru viitorul animalelor, oamenilor, naturii și al mediului înconjurător. Ne-ar plăcea un cabinet verde, care să poată încheia un acord climatic puternic. Subiectele în privința cărora avem diferențe radicale de opinie le putem lăsa deschise, iar astfel, chiar și printr-o majoritate schimbătoare în Camera Inferioară, putem face o politică bună, sustenabilă. În acest fel alegem într-adevăr pentru binele mai mare.
În Parlamentul neerlandez, am înregistrat din nou un succes. Propunerea noastră pentru a înăspri regulamentul privind transportul animalelor pe timp de caniculă a fost adoptată săptămâna trecută. Protocolul de transport al animalelor pe timp de caniculă are scopul de a preveni suferința acestora în vehiculele de transport. Acest regulament se poate cu adevărat aplica numai după patru zile consecutive cu temperaturi de peste 27°C. Și există mai multe excepții, prin care animalele sunt de fapt supuse în continuare stresului termic. Partidul pentru Animale dorește să pună capăt transporturilor degradante de animale și prin propunerea adoptată ne vom asigura oricum că animalele într-adevăr nu vor mai fi transportate în vehicule de transport încinse.
Europarlamentarul nostru, Anja Hazekamp, a introdus vânătoarea de balene din Norvegia în agenda europeană. Săptămâna trecută, în cadrul unei reuniuni a Parlamentului European, Anja a propus închiderea porturilor europene pentru tranzitul de carne de balenă. În fiecare an, mii de kilograme de carne de balenă sunt transportate prin porturile europene din Norvegia spre Japonia. Deși vânzarea de carne de balenă este interzisă în Uniunea Europeană, tranzitul prin porturile UE este acum trecut cu vederea. În septembrie, Parlamentul European va vota cu privire la propunerea Partidului pentru Animale.
Săptămâna trecută am primit plăcuta vizită din partea Tamasin Ramsay de la Animal Justice Party, partidul-soră cu noi din Australia. Ei au un loc în Senatul din New South Wales și acum luptă pentru interzicerea transportului de animale în Australia, ceea ce ar fi un pas revoluționar. Tamasin ne-a cerut sfatul cu privire la cel mai bun mod de acțiune în acest sens.
De asemenea, este extraordinar de văzut cum PACMA, partidul-soră din Spania lucrează din greu pentru oameni, animale și planetă. Astfel, ei atrag atenția asupra festivalului San Fermin, care a început săptămâna trecută. Timp de nouă zile, în orașul spaniol Pamplona, tauri sunt lăsați liberi pe străzi înguste, fiind ulterior goniți spre o arenă și în cele din urmă toți confruntându-se cu o moarte oribilă. Înainte de a goni taurii, aceștia sunt chinuiți cu șocuri electrice și beţe ascuțite. În septembrie, PACMA organizează la Madrid o demonstrație de masă împotriva unor astfel de forme de abuz asupra animalelor. Aici puteți vedea imagini frumoase ale demonstrației de anul trecut.
Sute de mii de oameni din întreaga lume au participat la sfârșitul lunii iunie în Madrid la marșul pentru drepturile comunității LGBT, World Pride. Au fost prezenți cu siguranță un milion de oameni. Partidul-soră din Spania, PACMA, s-a alăturat de asemenea. PACMA subliniază importanța nediscriminării și a evenimentelor Pride. PACMA: „Trebuie să luptăm pentru o lume mai bună pentru toți locuitorii planetei, indiferent de specie, rasă, sex sau de identitate.“ Noi, în Țările de Jos, suntem în totalitate de acord cu aceasta! De aceea partidul nostru va participa din nou în luna august la Amsterdam Gay Pride. Ne vom vedea acolo?
Vacanța bate la ușă, dar partidul-soră din Portugalia, PAN, nu se va odihni prea mult. La 1 octombrie au loc alegerile locale din Portugalia: se va vota în 308 municipalități portugheze. Le urez deja colegilor noștri mult succes cu pregătirile!

The Dutch government formation has taken 120 days already and the composition of the parties at the negotiating table promises very little for the planet. That’s a shame because we now have the opportunity to make a real difference for the future of animals, humans, nature and the environment. We would like to see a green government that is able to conclude a strong climate agreement. Subjects we substantially disagree on can be considered as free issues, which means that we could still come to a good, sustainable policy with changing majorities. That way we can really go for the overarching interest.

We were successful again in the Dutch parliament. Our motion to extend the heat protocol for animal transports was passed last week. The heat protocol for animal transports intends to prevent the serious suffering of animals in transport trailers. However, this regulation only comes into effect when it has been above 27˚C (80.6 F) for four days in a row. And there are all kinds of exceptional provisions that cause animals to still frequently suffer heat stress in practice. The Party for the Animals wants to end the inhumane treatment of livestock during transports and the motion adopted will in any case ensure that animals will no longer be put on transport in steamy hot trailers.

Our MEP Anja Hazekamp has put Norwegian whale hunting on the European agenda. At a meeting of the European Parliament last week, Anja proposed to close European ports for the transit of whale meat. Each year, thousands of kilos of whale meat are transported via European ports from Norway to Japan. Although it is prohibited to sell whale meat in the European Union, the transit of it via EU ports is turned a blind eye to. The European Parliament will vote on the Party for the Animals’ proposal in September.
Last week, I received a pleasant visit from Tamasin Ramsay of the Animal Justice Party, our sister party in Australia. They have a seat in the Senate of New South Wales and are now fighting for a ban on animal transports in Australia, which would be a revolutionary step forward. Tamasin asked us for advice on how to best proceed on this.

It is also fantastic to see how our Spanish sister party PACMA is working hard for humans, animals and the planet. For example, they are asking for attention for the San Fermín Festival that started last week. In the Spanish city of Pamplona bulls are released in the small streets, during the nine-day festival, after which they are chased into the arena where they finally suffer a gruesome death. Prior to the bull run, the bulls are tortured with electric shocks and poked with sharp sticks. PACMA is organising a mass protest in Madrid in September against such forms of animal abuse. Hundreds of thousands of people from all over the world marched for LHBTI+ rights, the World Pride in Madrid at the end of June. There were at least one million people. Our Spanish sister party PACMA also took part in it. PACMA emphasises the importance of non-discrimination and pride events. PACMA: “We must fight for a better world for all inhabitants of the planet, no matter what species, race, gender or identity. We totally agree with this in the Netherlands. For that reason, our party will again participate in the Amsterdam Gay Pride. Will we see you there?

Summer is starting but our Portuguese sister party PAN will not be able to take a rest. On 1 October, local elections will be held in Portugal: elections are on in 308 Portuguese municipalities. I wish our colleagues good luck with all preparations!
