TTIP-leaks bevestigen: zorgen honderd procent gegrond
De door Greenpeace gepubliceerde TTIP-leaks, met passages uit het handelsverdrag tussen de EU en de VS, tonen aan dat de argwaan over, en de weerstand tegen, TTIP honderd procent gegrond zijn. Dat zegt Europarlementariër Anja Hazekamp naar aanleiding van de gepubliceerde TTIP-leaks.
“Cosmetica die op dieren is getest en genetisch gemanipuleerd eten met nóg meer bestrijdingsmiddelen zijn slechts een greep uit het TTIP-assortiment. Dit wurgverdrag levert ons niets anders op dan producten geproduceerd met de laagste milieu- en dierenwelzijnsnormen,” aldus Hazekamp.
“Daarnaast raken we ook wat kwijt: namelijk de vrijheid om zelfstandig te bepalen hoe we onze gezondheid, het milieu, de natuur en dieren willen beschermen. Deze tekst neemt rechtstreeks zeggenschap weg bij de Nederlandse en Europese overheden en legt de macht neer bij ongekozen technocraten en multinationals,” constateert Hazekamp.
De gelekte documenten bevestigen volgens de Partij voor de Dieren bovendien dat de Brusselse onderhandelaars volksvertegenwoordigers en critici doelbewust op het verkeerde been hebben gezet door onjuiste en incomplete informatie te verstrekken.
“De Europese Commissie geeft nu aan te onderzoeken hoe dit lek is ontstaan. Ze kan die energie beter gebruiken om TTIP van tafel te krijgen,” aldus de Partij voor de Dieren.
The TTIP-leaks, published by Greenpeace and containing passages from the trade agreement between the EU and the US, confirm that suspicions about and resistance against TTIP are completely valid, according to MEP Anja Hazekamp.
“Cosmetics tested on animals and genetically modified foods produced with even more pesticides are only a few examples of the TTIP plans. This unfair agreement will bring us nothing but products produced with the lowest possible environmental and animal welfare standards,” says Hazekamp.
“On top of that, we will lose the freedom to determine for ourselves how we wish to protect our health, the environment, nature and the animals. This document takes away the direct authority of Dutch and European governments and places this authority with unelected technocrats and multinationals,” states Hazekamp.
Moreover, according to the Party for the Animals, the leaked documents confirm that the negotiators in Brussels have deliberately misled representatives and critics by providing inaccurate and incomplete information.
“The European Commission has indicated that it is working on an investigation into how this leak could have happened. It would do better to devote its energy to putting an end to the TTIP negotiations,” according to the Party for the Animals.
