Weltlog Woche 39 – 2008
Vorige Woche war ich wegen der Haushaltsdebatte sehr beschäftigt. Dadurch habe ich Ihnen vergessen zu melden, dass ich am 14. September das einmalige Zentrum für Katzen und ihr Verhalten von Marcellina Stolting in Amsterdam eröffnen durfte.

Man kommt in dieses Zentrum für ein Gespräch mit einem Verhaltenstherapeut für Katzen und man bespricht das problematische Verhalten der Katze. Auch bietet das Zentrum Informationen über Kurse in Bezug auf das Verhalten der Katzen. Es gibt ein Wartezimmer für Katzen, ein Sprechzimmer für Katzen, eine Katzenaufnahme, einen Versammlungssaal, einen Katzenvermittlungsdienst und eine Katzenverhaltenstherapie. Also, eine ganze Etage für Katzen. In den Niederlanden ist so viele Aufmerksamkeit nur für Katzen einmalig zu nennen! Marcellina hat mir erzählt, dass viele Katzen, obwohl sie rechtzeitig zu essen und zu trinken bekommen, unglücklich sind. Es ist ein Missverständnis, dass Katzen Einzelgänger sind. Katzen sind einsam, wenn sie alleine in einem Haus wohnen. Ich habe selbst zwei Katzen, aber will Marcellina demnächst einladen auch meine Katzen mal zu besuchen…
Diese Woche habe ich einen neuen Fleischersatz von Veggiemaster kennengelernt. Der Geschmack ist fast wie Fleisch oder Fisch, ich finde das fast gruselig. Bestellen kann man den Fleischersatz hier.
Die Schweinezüchterei bereitet sich dieses Wochenende vor auf ein Wochenende wobei das Publikum sich die Ställe ansehen kann und selber sehen kann wie “fantastisch” die Schweine es haben. Inzwischen gibt es eine schwere Diskussion über die Tatsache, dass es immer noch keine betäubte Kastration gibt und bereitet der niederländische Staat sich vor um dafür zu sorgen, dass die Niederlande nicht nur Metzger von Europa sind, aber dass unser Schweinefleisch auch in großem Maß nach China geht! Offenbar will der niederländische Staat nicht verstehen, dass wir eine regionale und nachhaltige Produktion brauchen wobei wir mehr pflanzliche statt tierliche Eiweiße benutzen.
In Kanada hat der Film Meat the Truth diese Woche Premiere. Leider kann ich dabei nicht anwesend sein (Vegetarier sollen sparsam mit “Flugmiles” sein), aber am nächsten 3. Oktober bin ich bei der Hollywoodpremiere von Meat the Truth. Aus allen Himmelsrichtungen gibt es Anträge, von Kapstadt bis Peking!
Last week was a very busy one owing to the Parliamentary Debate on the Speech from the Throne. Consequently, I completely forgot to mention that I opened Marcellina Stolting’s unique cat behaviour centre in Amsterdam last week.
This centre offers the services of cat behaviour therapists for your troublesome kitty. They can also provide information on special cat behaviour courses. There is a special cat waiting room, a cat consultation room, cat admissions, a training course area, a cat-sitting service and cat behaviour therapy. The entire premises is devoted to the care of felines. This is certainly unique in the Netherlands!
Marcellina told me that many cats, even when provided with the usual creature comforts, are often unhappy. One of the biggest misconceptions around is that cats are solitary animals. Cats get lonely if left at home all alone! As the owner of two cats myself, I’ll soon be inviting Marcellina to come take a look at my kitties…

While Dutch pig farmers are preparing for a weekend in which they open their sties to the public to show everyone just how “wonderful” things are for the pigs and the debate is heating up over why anaesthetised castration has not yet been mandated, the Dutch government is working all out not only to ensure that the Netherlands becomes Europe’s biggest butcher, but also to induce China to buy huge quantities of Dutch pork! Apparently, the message still eludes the Dutch government: we need to move to more regional and sustainable production that stresses vegetable protein above animal protein.
Meat the Truth premiers in Canada this week. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to attend (vegetarians also need to be thrifty with their airmiles). However, I will be attending the Hollywood premier of Meat the Truth on 3 October. Interest in our film is coming from all corners of the earth, from Cape Town to Beijing!
