O diário holandês Trouw estabelece anualmente uma lista de 100 pessoas no topo da Sustentabilidade. Pelo quinto ano consecutivo o inteiro grupo parlamentar do Partido para os Animais esta incluído na lista topo 100 da Sustentabilidade. A minha colega parlamentar Esther Ouwehand com seu 10º lugar até mesmo alcançou o lugar mais alto dos políticos na lista deste ano! Eu mesma estou muito feliz com o 22º lugar. Este ano somente 5 membros da Câmara conseguiram um lugar na lista. Com a vinda das eleições – no dia 15 de março de 2017 – é bom salientar que só existe um partido em que todos os membros parlamentares são consistentes nos seus esforços por uma sociedade verde durável.
Como se não fosse bastante, a revista feminista de opiniões Opzij anunciou esta semana que eu sou uma das 10 políticas mais influentes na Holanda. Elas observam que dos 15 grupos parlamentares na Câmara Baixa eu sou a única presidente feminina e que muito provavelmente eu também serei a única cabeça de lista feminina nas eleições nacionais em março. É muito especial ter sido mencionada porque até agora esta revista feminista prestou pouca atenção ao nosso grupo parlamentar que afinal se constitui completamente de mulheres e ao Partido para os Animais em si. Ainda mais especial porque é bem sabido que o movimento para os direitos animais proveio também do feminismo no final do século 19. Após a libertação dos escravos, a concessão de direitos às mulheres e às crianças o passo seguinte mais lógico é conceder direitos aos animais.
Neste momento, o Ewald Engelen e eu estamos fazendo uma turnê pela Holanda inteira para dar leituras sobre nosso livro ‘O canário na mina de carvão’. Após cada leitura sempre há oportunidade para fazer perguntas. Até agora as salas sempre estiveram lotadas com pessoas interessadas! Entrementes o livro está na sua quarta edição.
Para quem ainda não conhece o livro: No ‘O canário na mina de carvão’ nós avisamos contra a falta de sustentabilidade nas actuais escolhas políticas e financeiras. Como um canário numa mina de carvão nós assinalamos os perigos que ameaçam nosso futuro. Durante as leituras e naturalmente também no livro nós apelamos por uma revolução. Já é tempo para o plano B!

Para terminar tenho ainda belas novas de nosso grupo parlamentar no Senado. Saba, o município especial da Holanda nas Caraíbas foi nomeado como a região natural mais bonita da Holanda. Nosso grupo parlamentar no Senado votou decisivamente a favor desta ilha verde “justamente porque ela é tão linda, mas também por ser muito vulnerável” conforme os senadores do Partido para os Animais Christine Teunissen e Niko Koffeman. Estou curiosa em saber qual região natural holandesa vai ganhar!

Every year, the Dutch daily newspaper Trouw draws up a Sustainable Top 100 list. For the fifth time in a row, the Party for the Animals’ entire Lower House party is in the Top 100. My colleague MP Esther Ouwehand is even the highest placed politician, ranked 10th on the list! I am very happy to have been awarded a 22th place. Only 5 members of the Lower House have been awarded a place on the list this year. As we are approaching the national elections on 15 March 2017, it is good to see it underlined that only one party has been consistently and unanimously committed to a green and future-proof society.
As if last week was not enough, the feminist magazine Opzij announced that I am one of the 10 most influential female politicians in the Netherlands. They pointed out that of the 15 parliamentary groups in the Netherlands, I am the only female party leader in the Lower House and almost certainly the only female party leader during the upcoming national elections of next March. It is quite extraordinary that they have listed me, since thus far the feminist magazine has not paid much attention to our Lower House party, which is entirely composed of women, or to the Party for the Animals as such. Extraordinary, since it is generally accepted that the animal rights movement is a result of the 19th century women’s movement. After the liberation of slaves and granting rights to women and children, giving rights to animals is the next logical step.
At the moment, Ewald Engelen and I are touring the country to give lectures on our book ‘The canary in the coal mine’. After each lecture, there is ample opportunity to ask questions. Thus far, all of our lectures have been sold out and the room has been packed with enthusiasts. The fourth edition of our book is now published.
For those of you who have not heard of the book: in ‘The canary in the coal mine’ we warn against the unsustainability of today’s political and financial choices. Like a canary in a coal mine, we identify the dangers that jeopardise our future. In the book and during our lectures, we call for a revolution. The time has come for Plan B!

Lastly, I have some good news from our parliamentary party in the Upper Chamber. Saba, the extraordinary Dutch municipality in the Caribbean, has been nominated as Most Beautiful Natural Area. Our Upper Chamber party has voted for this green island with conviction, “because not only is it beautiful, it is also highly sensitive”, according to Party for the Animals’ senators Christine Teunissen and Niko Koffeman. I am very curious to see which natural area is going to win!
