Câmara quer retornar macacos de java para AAP

A Câmara Baixa quer que cinco macacos de java salvos sejam acolhidos permanentemente pela organização holandesa para o bem-estar de animais ‘Stichting AAP’. Os animais foram apreendidos em 2014 no Porto de Rotterdam, em seguida a Fundação AAP cuidou deles por um ano e meio e recentemente eles foram enviados ao laboratório de macacos BPRC em Rijswijk. Uma maioria na Câmara acha isto inaceitável e apoiou uma moção do Partido para os Animais para que estes animais sejam permanentemente acolhidos pela AAP.

Cinco macacos de java foram achados em 2014 num navio proveniente da Malásia. Os animais muito enfraquecidos foram apreendidos e levados à Fundação AAP. Lá os macacos puderam convalescer durante um ano e meio. O Ministério dos Assuntos Económicos, proprietário dos animais, decidiu mandar os macacos para o centro de animais de laboratório Biomedical Primate Research Centre (BPRC) em Rijswijk. Ali eles seriam usados para procriação.

A Câmara Baixa acha isto inaceitável e quer que os macacos sejam acolhidos permanentemente pela Fundação AAP. Conforme o Membro Parlamentar para o Partido para os Animais Frank Wassenberg: “O laboratório de macacos é realmente o último lugar que se pode querer para onde enviar estes macacos. Muito bom que também a Câmara acha que o BPRC não é um bom abrigo.

The Dutch Lower House wants five rescued Java monkeys to permanently stay with the Dutch animal welfare organisation AAP. The animals, which were confiscated on the port of Rotterdam in 2014, have been looked after by the AAP foundation for 18 months and were recently sent off to the primate laboratory BPRC in Rijswijk. A majority in the Lower House finds this unacceptable and has supported a motion by the Party for the Animals to let these animals stay with AAP permanently.

In 2014, five Java monkeys were discovered on a ship from Malaysia. The extremely weakened animals were confiscated and brought to the AAP foundation, where they were allowed to regain their strength in the following eighteen months. The Ministry of Economic Affairs, owner of the animals, has decided to send the monkeys to the Biomedical Primate Research Centre (BPRC) in Rijswijk, where they will be used as breeding animals.

The Lower House finds this unacceptable and wants the monkeys to be placed with the AAP foundation permanently. Party for the Animals MP Frank Wassenberg: “A primate laboratory is the very last place we should want to send these monkeys. Fortunately, the Lower House agrees that the BPRC is not appropriate as a shelter for these animals.”
