Con orgoglio posso annunciarvi che il Partito per gli Animali, dopo una campagna elettorale entusiasmante, ha ottenuto cinque seggi alla Camera! Tre seggi in più, un aumento del 150 percento, e questo significa un grande balzo in avanti. Con questo l’ancora verde” nel parlamento, che fa sì che anche gli altri partiti stano attenti agli argomenti verdi, ha aumentato il suo potere!
Durante i colloqui per le trattative per la formazione di una coalizione di governo ho fatto un appello per la formazione che comprende i partiti che hanno ottenuto da parte delle organizzazioni climatiche ottenuto la ‘Certificazione Climatica A’, vale a dire l’Unione Cristiana (ChristenUnie), Verde Sinistra (GroenLinks) ed il Partito per gli Animali. Integrato con D66, SP e 50PLUS che hanno ottenuto la ‘Certificazione Climatica B’. Il VVD, il più grande partito del paese, potrebbe fare parte di questa progressiva coalizione-climatica, a condizione che il partito risponderà all’appello di membri di spicco del partito che vogliono una direzione più verde.
Qualunque sia l’esito, il fatto è che avremo nel parlamento con i nostri cinque seggi spesso il voto decisivo e quindi guadagneremo influenza!
Uno dei punti forti della campagna per me era la cena “Piano B”, che si è tenuto ad Amsterdam il 6 marzo, il giorno del mio compleanno. Attraverso un maxi-schermo, ho ricevuto congratulazioni video da partiti fratelli in tutto il mondo. Una fantastica sorpresa. Grazie mille per questo!
Nel frattempo, il nostro gruppo nel Parlamento europeo si è battuto per una maggiore protezione dei conigli allevati per la loro di carne. Attraverso legislazione europea una maggioranza del Parlamento Europeo vuole dei requisiti minimi per il benessere degli animali per conigli d’allevamento per la loro carne. Così gabbie con un pavimento di rete dovrebbero essere vietati. Circa un quarto dei conigli ora collassa in tale batterie-gabbie.
Inoltre, la nostra europarlamentare Anja Hazekamp è stata la scorsa settimana a Malta per inquadrare bene la situazione della caccia primaverile di quaglie e altri uccelli migratori su quest’isola.
Crescita globale del nostro lavoro è importante. Letteralmente di vitale importanza. Segretario Generale delle Nazioni Unite Petteri Taalas, esperto di clima dell’Organizzazione meteorologica mondiale, ha recentemente indicato anche l’urgenza del problema del clima: “Il cambiamento climatico non può più essere visto come indipendente dalle attività umane. Si osservano notevoli cambiamenti a livello mondiale che vanno ben oltre la nostra conoscenza del clima. Ci troviamo in un territorio inesplorata.” Questo dimostra ancora una volta l’urgente necessità di un governo del clima nei Paesi Bassi.
Fortunatamente sempre più persone stanno scoprendo i nostri piani fruttuosi per il necessario cambiamento. Con questo crescente sostegno continuiamo a combattere fortissimo dentro e fuori del parlamento dentro e fuori, nei Paesi Bassi e all’estero. Con coraggio avanti verso nuove traguardi per gli animali, la natura, l’ambiente oltre a tutti vulnerabili. Nei Paesi Bassi e all’estero!

It is with great pride that I can announce that after an exciting election campaign, the Party for the Animals has won five seats in the Lower House of Dutch Parliament! A gain of three seats, i.e. an increase of 150 %, which means a great leap forward. The “green anchor” in the Lower House that keeps the other parties focused has thus become much stronger!
During coalition negotiations, I have advocated a climate cabinet consisting of the parties that were awarded Climate Label A by climate organisations, i.e. the Christian Union party (CU), GreenLeft and the Party for the Animals, joined by all Climate Label B parties, namely the Democrats 66 (D66), the Socialist Party (SP) and pensioners‘ interests party 50PLUS. Conservative-liberal party VVD, our country’s largest political party, could also be part of this progressive climate coalition, provided that it complies with the call of prominent party members for a greener course.
Whatever the outcome, our five seats in the Lower House will give us a casting vote and thereby increase our influence!
One of my personal highlights of the election campaign was the Plan B Dinner in Amsterdam which was held on my birthday, 6 March. On a big screen, I was able to watch our foreign sister parties from all over the world, who congratulated me through their own videos. A wonderful surprise. Thank you so much!
Meanwhile, our European Parliament Group has made a strong plea for better protection of meat rabbits. A majority of the EU Parliament now wants to set minimum requirements in European legislation regarding the welfare of meat rabbits. For instance, wire bottom cages should be illegal. Approximately one fourth of the rabbits currently collapse in these battery cages.
In addition, our MEP Anja Hazekamp visited Malta last week in order to develop a picture of the spring hunting of quails and other migratory birds on this island.
Global growth of our work is of great importance – of vital importance, literally. WMO Secretary-General Petteri Taalas, UN climate expert at the World Meteorological Organization, recently highlighted the urgency of the climate problem: “Climate change can no longer be seen in isolation from human activity. We are seeing remarkable changes across the planet that are challenging the limits of our understanding of the climate system. We are now in truly uncharted territory.” This again demonstrates the urgency of a climate cabinet in the Netherlands.
Fortunately, more and more people are discovering our fruitful plans for a much-needed revolution. This growing support will help us to work hard in and outside Parliament, in the Netherlands and abroad. We will work bravely towards new breakthroughs for animals, nature and the environment, and for all vulnerable groups. In the Netherlands and elsewhere!
