Internationale conferentie Partij voor de Dieren in Madrid brengt dierenbeschermers uit 20 landen bij elkaar
Amsterdam, 4 oktober 2017 – De Nederlandse Partij voor de Dieren (PvdD) heeft afgelopen weekend in Madrid, samen met haar Spaanse zusterpartij PACMA, een internationale conferentie georganiseerd over zwerfhondenproblematiek. Vertegenwoordigers van partijen voor de dieren en dierenwelzijnsorganisaties uit 20 landen hebben ervaringen kunnen uitwisselen, met de bedoeling om de situatie voor zwerfhonden wereldwijd te verbeteren.
Tijdens de conferentie, hebben deelnemers uit alle delen van de wereld – van Spanje tot Taiwan, van Georgië tot Australië en van Colombia tot Oman –kennis uitgewisseld en elkaar geïnspireerd om via de politiek tot diervriendelijke oplossingen te komen voor het wereldwijd voorkomende zwerfhondenprobleem.
Senator Christine Teunissen (PvdD): “Wereldwijd zijn er naar schatting circa 600 miljoen zwerfhonden. Nationale en lokale overheden voeren veelal gruwelijk en ineffectief beleid om zwerfhondenpopulaties te beheersen. Honden worden vaak vergiftigd of afgeschoten. Zonder resultaat; de aanwas van de populaties blijft in stand. Wij steunen organisaties en partijen die hier via (lokale) politieke oplossingen verandering in willen brengen. ”
Dierenwelzijnsorganisaties uit verschillende landen deelden ervaringen uit hun eigen land. Zo vertelden vertegenwoordigers van een Oekraïense organisatie over hun innovatieve en betaalbare digitale tool voor registratie en monitoring van zwerfdieren, de zogenaamde “Animal-ID”. De Marokkaanse afgevaardigde Sally Kadaoui toonde haar unieke en succesvolle manier om de lokale gemeenschap in de buurt van de Marokkaanse stad Tanger te betrekken bij het verbeteren van de situatie van zwerfhonden.
Lezing Marianne Thieme
Onderdeel van de conferentie was tevens een lezing van Marianne Thieme. Als oprichter en fractievoorzitter van de Nederlandse PvdD, sprak Thieme in het museum Lázaro Galdiano over de rol van de partij in het aanjagen van het debat over dierenrechten, zowel in Nederland als daarbuiten. Ook sprak ze over de noodzaak van politieke beïnvloeding om de positie van dieren, natuur en milieu te verbeteren. Deze onderwerpen leven zeer in Madrid: de lezing van Thieme was volledig uitverkocht.
Groeiende internationale beweging
De Partij voor de Dieren is de eerste politieke partij ter wereld die niet de kortetermijnbelangen van de mens centraal stelt, maar de gehele planeet en ál haar bewoners. De partij boekt electoraal grote successen en heeft inmiddels 53 volksvertegenwoordigers, waaronder vijf in het Nederlandse Parlement, twee in de Nederlandse Senaat en een in het Europees Parlement. Geen enkele Nederlandse politieke partij was ooit zo succesvol als ‘exportproduct’ als de Nederlandse PvdD. Er zijn inmiddels 18 partijen voor dieren wereldwijd. Op zondag 1 oktober, de laatste dag van de conferentie, bleek ook de Portugese partij voor de dieren (Pessoas-Animais-Natureza, kortweg “PAN”) enorme winst te hebben geboekt tijdens de Portugese lokale verkiezingen: de partij behaalde 32 zetels bij lokale verkiezingen en is vertegenwoordigd in 78% van de gemeenten waarin ze deelnam aan de verkiezingen.
AMSTERDAM, 4 October 2017 – Last weekend, the Dutch Party for the Animals (PftA) and Spanish sister party PACMA organised an international conference on the stray dog problem. Representatives of parties for animals and animal welfare organisations from 20 countries shared their experiences with the aim of improving the situation of stray dogs worldwide.
During the conference, participants from all parts of the world – from Serbia to Taiwan, from Georgia to Morocco and from Colombia to Oman – exchanged knowledge and inspired one another to reach animal friendly solutions to the worldwide stray dog problem through politics.
Senator Christine Teunissen (PftA): “There are approximately 600 million stray dogs worldwide. National and local governments often use cruel and ineffective policies to control stray dog populations. Dogs are often poisoned or shot off. This happens without results: the growth of the stray dog population still continues. We support organizations and parties who want to change this through (local) political solutions.”
Animal welfare organisations from several countries shared experiences from their own countries. A Ukrainian organisation talked about its highly innovative and affordable digital tool for the registration and monitoring of stray animals, the so-called Animal-ID. Moroccan delegate Sally Kadaoui discussed her unique and successful method to involve local communities near the Moroccan city Tangier in improving the situation of stray dogs in that region.
Marianne Thieme’s lecture
As part of the conference, Marianne Thieme gave a lecture. In a hall of Museum Lázaro Galdiano, Thieme, being the PftA’s founder and political chairman, discussed the party’s role in encouraging the animal rights debate in the Netherlands as well as abroad. She also outlined the importance of political interference in improving the status of animals, nature and the environment; clearly live issues in Madrid, as Thieme’s lecture was sold out.
Growing international movement
The Party for the Animals is the world’s first political party representing not only short-term human interests, but the interests of the entire planet and all its inhabitants. Being electorally successful, the party currently has 53 elected representatives, five of which are in the Dutch Parliament, two in the Dutch Senate and one in the European Parliament. No Dutch political party was ever as successful as a ‘export product’ as the Dutch PftA. There are currently 18 parties for animals worldwide. On Sunday, October 1st, the last day of the conference, the Portuguese party for the animals (Pessoas-Animais-Natureza, or “PAN”) made huge gains in the Portuguese local elections: the party gained a total of 32 seats at local elections and is now represented in 78% of the Portuguese municipalities.
