Worldlog Settimana 5 – 2014

In questo memento circa 250 delfini vengono massacrati nel villaggio di pescatori giapponese di Taiji. Questa caccia annuale è strettamente associata al commercio di delfini per l’intrattenimento. Dopo che i delfini selvatici sono stati radunati in una baia i più bei animali sono selezionati e venduti per tanti soldi venduti agli delfinari di tutto il mondo. I restanti delfini vengono macellati brutalmente. Cove Guardians, volontari dell’organizzazione animalista Sea Shepherd, che protestano sul posto contro i massacri, segnalano di scene raccapriccianti.

Questa cosa deve finire! Noi abbiamo invitato il ministro Timmermans al parlamento durante l’orario delle interrogazioni dirette di martedì. Accogliamo con favore la promessa del Ministro degli Affari Esteri Timmermans che l’ambasciatore olandese in Giappone prenderà posizione contro questo massacro di delfini. Gli ambasciatori del Regno Unito e Stati Uniti hanno già condannato i massacri. Dai Paesi Bassi non si è sentito niente, mentre la posizione ufficiale del governo è che la caccia al delfino deve essere combattuta.

Si tratta di un passo nella direzione giusta, ma abbiamo intervenire ancora più energicamente contro questi massacri orribili. Vogliamo che i Paesi Bassi pone delle condizioni al libero scambio con il Giappone. Ciò significa che il Giappone deve rispettare i diritti umani, rispettare la moratoria sulla caccia alle balene e deve fermare il massacro dei delfini prima che ulteriori negoziati commerciali possono essere condotte.

La settimana scorsa ho avuto un dibattito su un ulteriore trasferimento di poteri a Bruxelles e l’iniziativa cittadina BurgerforumEU.nl che chiede giustamente un referendum. Troviamo inaccettabile di trasferire ancora più sovranità a Bruxelles senza prima chiederlo, attraverso un referendum, ai cittadini olandesi. Un sondaggio del sondaggista olandese Maurice de Hond mostra che il 67 percento degli olandesi crede che in caso di un nuovo trasferimento di poteri dai Paesi Bassi a Bruxelles si deve tenere un referendum.

Siamo un forte sostenitore di cooperazione internazionale, ma prendiamo le distanze dal modo in cui sempre più poteri decisionali sono trasferiti a Bruxelles organizzato in un modo antidemocratico.

Bruxelles ha una grande influenza sulla politica agricola (metà del bilancio di Bruxelles va alle sovvenzioni agricole), e il modo in cui Bruxelles modera gli obbiettivi climatici è una prova delle grande debolezza dell’attuale UE. Ad esempio, Bruxelles da più spazio per l’energia nucleare ….

Questa settimana ho ricevuto una email dal professore William Ripple dall’università dell’Oregon. Lui è molto entusiasta del documentario Meat the Truth della nostra agenzia scientifica NGPF. At this moment, around 250 dolphins are being slaughtered in the Japanese fishing village of Taiji. This annual hunt relates closely to the trade in dolphins for entertainment. After wild dolphins are rounded up in a bay, the finest animals are selected and sold for a lot of money to dolphinariums around the globe. The remaining dolphins are brutally slaughtered. Cove Guardians, volunteers of the animal welfare organisation Sea Shepherd, who protest these massacres on site, report horrific scenes.

This must stop! During oral question time last Tuesday, we called minister Timmermans to Parliament. We are glad that minister Timmermans of Foreign Affairs promised that the Dutch ambassador in Japan will take a stand against this slaughter of dolphins. The ambassadors of the United Kingdom and the United States already condemned these massacres. The Netherlands remained silent, whereas government adopted the formal position that dolphin hunting must be stopped.

Although this is a step in the right direction, we must take much tougher action against these gruesome massacres. We also want the Netherlands to set conditions with regard to free trade with Japan. This means that Japan must respect human rights, respect the moratorium on whaling and stop the slaughter of dolphins before further trade negotiations can be conducted.

Last week, I had a debate on a further transfer of power to Brussels and the citizens’ initiative BurgerforumEU.nl, which rightly calls for a referendum. We believe it is not acceptable to transfer more sovereignty to Brussels without asking the Dutch people first by way of a referendum. A poll by Dutch pollster Maurice de Hond has shown that 67 per cent of Dutch people are of the opinion that a referendum should be held in case of a new transfer of power from the Netherlands to Brussels.

We are a strong advocate of international cooperation, but we distance ourselves from the way in which more and more decision-making powers are transferred to an undemocratically organised Brussels.

Brussels has a major impact on agricultural policy (half of the Brussels budget goes to agricultural subsidies) and the way in which Brussels has weakened climate targets is another proof of major weakness of the current EU. For example, Brussels gives more room to nuclear energy ….
