Marianne Thieme wants referendum regarding TTIP

30 October 2015

Marianne Thieme wants a referendum to be held about TTIP, the controversial free-trade agreement between the EU and the US.

The PvdD party leader summoned to this during the TTIP debate in the Lower House. The Partij voor de Dieren wants the cabinet to arrange a referendum regarding TTIP and CETA, the controversial free-trade agreements between the European Union and the United States and Canada. The agreements open doors widely for products that do not meet our standards of food safety, privacy, animal welfare and environment. Multinationals that supposedly suffer from new regulations that protect humans, animals, nature or environment obtain the right to claims millions from a certain country, via a private court of justice. The free-trade agreements therefore form a threat to democracy.

PvdD party chairman Marianne Thieme wants these outrageous agreements to be presented to the citizens through a referendum. Thieme: “TTIP and CETA threaten democracy and give power to multinationals and lobbyists. Our rights, our health, animal welfare and our planet are no trade barrier. Stop TTIP and CETA!
