Worldlog Semena 52 – 2013

Na semana passada eu apresentei uma proposta de lei com o objectivo de restringir drasticamente a caça na Holanda. Eu quero que a caça ao pato selvagem, lebre, coelho, faisão e pombo-torcaz seja terminada o mais rápido possível. Seria fantástico se a Câmara Baixa aceitasse a proposta pois isso significaria que esta é a última temporada de caça para os caçadores amadores. A caça pelo prazer causa cada ano muito sofrimento aos animais. Agora é preciso uma acção parlamentar.

Por isso eu fiz duas propostas: acabar com a caça às cinco espécies e ancorar uma proibição da caça amadora na lei. Hoje em dia a caça pelo prazer não tem mais cabimento e felizmente a maioria dos holandeses também acha isso. Pesquisas mostram que apenas três por cento dos holandeses acha que o prazer é um motivo aceitável para a caça, sendo que 72 por cento da população acha que a caça como passatempo deveria ser proibido.

Pouco antes das férias parlamentares de natal ainda houve um debate sobre a transmissão de competências da Holanda para Bruxelas. Segue um pequeno trecho de minha contribuição ao debate.

O primeiro-ministro quer transmitir mais competências para a Europa. Mas como isso é contra a vontade dos cidadãos, essa transmissão tem que acontecer por meio da táctica do salame. Meu grupo parlamentar tem pouco a ver com salame e se possível ainda menos com a táctica do salame. E igualmente com a política de avestruz, que assume que a regra de 80-20 pode ser aplicada com sucesso. 80% da população explicitamente não quer algo enquanto que os outros 20% continuam alegremente com seus planos inconvenientes que nesse caso vão danificar a soberania de nosso país de uma maneira irreversível. Soberania não se tornou a palavra do ano. A palavra do ano é Selfie. E isso é exactamente o que a política faz. Mostrar interesse por si próprio enquanto que os interesses dos cidadãos são malbaratados e suas preocupações são ignoradas.

Faz algumas semanas que nós declaramos ser contra a participação holandesa da missão militar no Mali. As missões militares até hoje só foram dedicadas ao combate de sintomas ou para reprimir pequenas revoltas. Isso não trouxe soluções e nem mesmo uma pacificação permanente em conflitos. Nós achamos que devemos aprender as lições de anteriores missões que incluíam violência. A paz e a segurança não são beneficiadas com violência e objectivos camuflados. Existem outras maneiras fora das missões militares para favorecer a paz e a segurança. Assim é de grande importância que a mudança do clima seja reduzida para evitar focos de conflito e fluxos de refugiados no futuro.

Eu fiz perguntas parlamentares sobre o tratamento extremamente violento de animais na Faixa de Gaza. The Guardian comunicou que gado da Australia está sendo terrivelmente maltratado em Gaza. Cuidado, as imagens são chocantes.

Eu quero saber se também animais da Holanda são exportados vivos para Gaza e se nesse caso é possível parar imediatamente tal exportação.

No início de janeiro eu irei para Portugal e Madeira para um encontro com nosso partido irmão PAN. Durante a minha visita o nosso documentário A Lebre na Maratona vai ser mostrado em Lisboa e na Madeira . Isso vai ser certamente um encontro inspirador!

Last week, I submitted a private member’s bill to drastically curtail hunting and shooting in the Netherlands. I want to have a ban imposed on hunting and shooting mallard, hare, rabbit, pheasant and wood pigeon as soon as possible. It would be wonderful if the bill were to be adopted by the Lower House of Dutch Parliament, as this season would then be the last hunting season for sport hunters. Every year, sport hunting causes extreme animal suffering. Parliamentary action is required now.

For this purpose, I submitted two motions: closing the hunt for these 5 species and incorporating a ban on sport hunting into law. Sport hunting has become outdated, fortunately, most Dutch people agree on that. Research has shown that only 3 per cent of Dutch people are of the opinion that fun is an acceptable reason for hunting, whereas 72 per cent of the population are of the opinion that hunting as a hobby should be banned.

Just before the Christmas recess, we also had a debate on transferring powers from the Netherlands to Brussels. This is a short fragment from my contribution.

The Prime Minister wants to transfer more powers to Europe. But since the people do not want that, it has to be done by way of salami tactics. My party cares little about salami, and even less about salami tactics. Neither does it care much about burying one’s head in the sand, while assuming that the 80-20 rule can be implemented successfully. 80% of people who explicitly refuse to accept something, while the other 20% continue undisturbed with unwanted plans that irreversibly harm our country’s sovereignty. Sovereignty is not the word of the year. Selfie is the word of the year. And that is precisely what politics are doing. Showing an interest in oneself while the people’s interests are bartered away and their worries ignored.

Several weeks ago, we voted against Dutch participation in the military mission in Mali. So far, military missions have focused on combating symptoms or extinguishing small fires. This has not led to solutions, not even to permanently extinguishing hot spots. We think we should learn from the outcomes of previous violent missions. Violence and disguised objectives are not in the interest of peace and security. Peace and security can be promoted by ways other than military missions. For example, it is very important to limit climate change to prevent future hot spots and flows of refugees.

I asked parliamentary questions following extreme violence against animals in the Gaza Strip. The Guardian wrote that Australian cattle are being severely brutalised in the Gaza Strip. Beware, the images are shocking.

I want to know whether Dutch live animals are also being exported to Gaza and, if so, whether this can be stopped with immediate effect.

Early January, I will travel to Portugal and Madeira to meet with our sister party PAN. During my visits, our documentary The Pacer in the Marathon will be shown in Lisbon and Madeira. It will most definitely be an inspiring meeting!
