O Animal Welfare Party participará das Eleições Gerais no Reino Unido
Nas Eleições Gerais dia 8 de junho o partido britânico Animal Welfare Party (AWP) terá 4 candidatos nos seguintes eleitorados: Maidenhead, Hackney North & Stoke Newington, Hackney South & Shoreditch e Lewisham Deptford. Os depósitos para estes eleitorados foram financiados inteiramente pelos membros e apoiadores. O partido conseguiu recolher o dinheiro para os depósitos em apenas alguns dias. Os quatro candidatos são Professor Andrew Knight, Jon Homan, Laura McAnea e a líder do partido Vanessa Hudson.
AWP acredita num tratamento respeitoso de pessoas, animais e o meio-ambiente. AWP representa uma mudança no pensamento e na acção política que se afasta dos interesses a curto prazo de poucos e que protege os interesses dos mais fracos e daquilo que beneficia genuinamente as pessoas e nosso planeta a longo prazo.

As políticas-chave da AWP para as Eleições Gerais de 2017 são:
- Aumentar as penas para os condenados por abuso de animais.
- Terminar o abate de texugos e opor-se a revogação da proibição de caça de raposas.
- Fortalecer o bem-estar de animais de estimação por meio da terminação da legislação específica para raças, da venda de animais online e nas lojas de varejo e do comércio de animais de estimação exóticos.
- Eliminar gradualmente práticas e sistemas agrícolas carentes de bem-estar animal.
- Melhorar a saúde humana, proteger o meio-ambiente e a segurança alimentar mundial por meio da promoção de dietas à base de plantas.
- Eliminar gradualmente a experimentação animal com metas de redução obrigatórias em combinação com financiamento adequado & um apoio efectivo para alternativas.
- Introduzir CCTV monitorado independentemente em todos os matadouros.
- Terminar a exportação de animais vivos e o abate de animais sem anestesia.
- Opor-se ao Brexit duro. Apoiar um plebiscito de ratificação sobre o acordo final da saída.

The deposits for these constituencies have been entirely funded by members and supporters. The party has managed to raise the funds for these deposits in only a matter of days. AWP believes in treating people, animals, and the environment with respect. AWP represents a shift in political thinking and action, away from the short-term interests of the few, to one in which the interests of the weakest are protected, along with what is truly for the long-term good of people and our planet.

AWP’s key policies for the 2017 General Election are:
- Increase penalties for those convicted of animal abuse.
- End the badger cull and oppose any repeal of the fox hunting ban.
- Strengthen companion animal welfare with an end to breed specific legislation, the sale of animals online and in retail stores and the exotic pet trade.
- Phase out farming practices and systems with poor welfare consequences for animals.
- Improve human health, protect the environment and global food security by promoting healthy plant-based diets.
- Phase out animal experimentation with binding targets for reduction combined with proper funding & real support for alternatives.
- Introduce independently monitored CCTV for all slaughterhouses.
- End live animal export and all slaughter without prior stunning.
- Oppose hard Brexit. Support a ratification referendum on the final exit deal.
