“Cowfunding” para redimir a vaca Hermien que escapou do matadouro

30 de janeiro de 2018 – O Partido para os Animais holandês iniciou na semana passada uma ação de financiamento coletivo (crowdfunding) bem sucedida para salvar uma vaca chamada Hermien da matança. A vaca soube escapar pouco antes de ser encaminhada ao matador e conseguiu permanecer nas florestas holandesas por semanas a fio e fora das mãos de caçadores, policiais, veterinários e fazendeiros. Mas a caça do animal continuava. O Partido para os Animais decidiu ajudar a Hermien e coletar dinheiro para ela poder envelhecer calma e seguramente num estabelecimento de repouso para bovinos. Milhares de holandeses compadeceram-se e doaram dinheiro.

A deputada para o Partido para os Animais Esther Ouwehand disse: ” a Hermien está lutando pela sua vida e nós vamos ajudá-la. Ela nos lembra uma lição muito importante: nenhum animal quer ir para a sua própria matança.”

A vaca Hermien escapou quando estava sendo colocada no transporte para a matança. Desde então, já há seis semanas que ela se encontra nos bosques e está sendo perseguida. Diversas tentativas para capturar o animal falharam.

Amor à liberdade

Que vacas amam a sua liberdade já foi demonstrado diversas vezes. Assim aconteceu que uma vaca que escapou no outono passado de uma fazenda na Polónia se juntou a uma manada de bisontes selvagens na floresta de Bialowieza. E isto parece estar indo bem. Como o bisonte a vaca é um animal gregário e eles são parentes próximos.

Doações

A ação foi bem sucedida, entre outros, graças às doações e a ajuda de milhares de pessoas que utilizaram os Twitter’s #HelpHermien e #FreeHermien.

O dinheiro será usado para garantir que Hermien será bem tratada pelo resto de sua vida no estabelecimento de repouso para bovinos “De Leemweg”, que depende inteiramente de doações. “De Leemweg” adota e cuida de bovinos provenientes de toda a Holanda que escaparam do matadouro, foram negligenciados ou por algum outro motivo não têm onde ficar. Lá os animais podem viver em paz e segurança, até morrerem de velhos.

Anteriores ações de crowdfunding do Partido para os Animais também tiveram êxito. Assim o partido comprou em 2006 o boi Bikkel que após um curto período de vida numa fazenda para crianças foi descartado para um lugar onde bezerros são engordados. Também a vaca Sjoerdje foi salvada da morte depois que ela escapou a caminho do matadouro.

30 January 2018 – Last week, the Dutch Party for the Animals launched a successful crowdfunding campaign to save a cow called Hermien from slaughter. The cow managed to escape just before being taken to the abattoir and for weeks, she has hidden in the Dutch forests, evading capture by hunters, officers, vets and farmers. However, the hunt for the animal continued. The Party for the Animals decided to help Hermien by raising money that will allow her to live a quiet life in a cow shelter. Thousands of Dutch citizens sympathised and donated money.

Party for the Animals MP Esther Ouwehand: “Hermien is fighting for her life and we are going to help her. She reminds us all of an important lesson: no animal wants to be sent to slaughter.

Hermien managed to escape when she was being loaded for slaughter. Since then, she has remained in the forests for over six weeks, while being hunted. Several attempts to capture the animal have failed.

Desire for freedom

This is not the first time a cow has shown how much it values freedom. A cow that escaped from a farm in Poland last autumn, appeared to have joined a herd of wild bison in the Bialowieza Forest. And she seems to be in good condition. Like bison, cows are herd animals and closely related to one another.

Donations

Thousands of people have donated money and helped to make the campaign a success, e.g. by tweeting messages followed by #HelpHermien and #FreeHermien.

The money will be used to ensure that for the rest of her life, Hermien will be well cared for in cow shelter “De Leemweg”. The shelter is entirely dependent on donations, and adopts and looks after cows from the Netherlands that have escaped from slaughterhouses, cows that have been neglected, or, for whatever reason, have nowhere else to go. In the shelter, cows are allowed to live a quiet and peaceful life until their natural death.

Earlier crowdfunding campaigns launched by the Party for the Animals have also proven successful. In 2006, the party bought the freedom of a bull named Bikkel, who was discarded and given to a calf fattening farm after a short life in a petting zoo. The party also saved a cow called Sjoerdje from death after she had escaped on her way to the slaughterhouse.
