Worldlog Settimana 44 – 2013
La settimana scorsa la camera era in ferie. Non vi erano dei dibattiti, ma il lavoro continuava. Ho fatto delle domande alla camera su quello che ha detto il ministro Ploumen di Commercio Estero e Collaborazione nei paesi in sviluppo. Il ministro ha promesso ad un macellaio di vitelli di esprimere il suo supporto per stimolare il commercio internazionale di vitelli. Visto i recenti scandali nell’industria alimentare mi sembra una promessa poco gradita. L’industria della carne e del bestiame hanno da fare con una catena di scandali alimentari, come la carne con dei batteri di feci e tagliare la carne scongelata, verde e puzzolente per poi venderla di nuovo come carne fresca. Ora è in corso un’indagine sui rischi nel settore di carne olandese. Vi terrò aggiornati!
Il documentario francese Encounters with an Egalitarian: Yves Bonnardel è uscito la settimana scorsa. Il documentario tratta il modo di pensare di Yves Bonnardel. E’ un attivista per i diritti degli animali francese, che ha pubblicato molti articoli, soprattutto sullo spazio che noi diamo agli animali nella società occidentale e i vari modi in cui utilizziamo gli animali. Mancano tre giorni per firmare per un’Europa senza vivisezione! Sul sito web http://www.stopvivisection.eu/ sono state raccolte già oltre un milione di firme per costringere la Unione Europea di fare delle scelte diverse per quanto riguarda le sperimentazioni con gli animali. Con un milione di firme sarà possibile discutere in Europa sulla strada da prendere. E’ quindi ottimo che siano state raccolte un milione di firme, ma più firme ci sono, più aumenta la possibilità che verranno valutati altri modi di eseguire la ricerca, laddove al momento vengono utilizzati degli animali.
Ascoltate questo bellissimo branco ‘Say no’, con una forte voce contro la caccia dei trofei nei paesi africani.
Una bella novità: il 12 e 13 di dicembre l’Animal Politics Foundation (APF, Fondazione di Politiche Animalesche), organizza un congresso internazionale sui diritti degli animali e la politica degli animali ad Istanbul. L’AFP è l’ente che si occupa delle attività internazionali del Partito per gli Animali. Durante questo congresso, l’AFP vuole cambiare radicalmente le teorie politiche sul rappresentamento politico degli animali e tradurle in pratica. L’AFP spera che il congresso porterà a più contatti tra le persone che sono coinvolte in questo campo politico. Sarebbe un ottimo risultato!
All’inizio di gennaio vado a Lisboa e Madeira per stringere i rapporti tra i vari partiti per gli animali. Parlerò con dei rappresentanti locali del PAN. PAN ha un rappresentante nel parlamento a Madeira e da poco c’è un rappresentante anche a Lisboa. E’ molto bello ed utile vedere come PAN riesce a realizzare un partito politico per i diritti degli animali in Portogallo ed a Madeira.

Last week was Autumn Recess in the Lower House. There were no debates, but work continued as per usual. I worked at such things as asking parliamentary questions as a result of a ruling by Minister Ploumen of Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation. The minister committed to providing her support to a meat processor and calf slaughter in promoting the international veal trade. Given the recent food scandals, I think this commitment is inappropriate – the livestock and meat industries are contending with a series of scandals, such as meat that contains faecal bacteria and trimming away thawed, green and smelly meat to sell as fresh meat. Research into the risks in the Dutch meat sector is currently underway. To be continued!
The French documentary Encounters with an Egalitarian: Yves Bonnardel was released last week. The documentary explores Yves Bonnardel’s philosophy. He is a French animal rights activist and has many publications to his name that chiefly detail the place we give animals in Western society and the various ways we use them. There are just three days left to sign the petition for a laboratory animal-free Europe! The http://www.stopvivisection.eu/ website has collected more than one million signatures to push the European Union into making different choices when it comes to research that involved laboratory animals. One million signatures makes it possible to join in on the European discussion so it’s fantastic that they’ve reached that goal, although the more signatures they obtain, the more likely Europe is to look at other options as far as research that uses animals is concerned.

Some cool news: The Animal Politics Foundation (APF) is organising an international conference on 12 and 13 December on animal rights and animal politics in Istanbul. The APF supports the Party for the Animals in its international activities. The APF will use this conference to translate political theories on political representation for animals into practice and vice versa. The APF hopes the conference will lead to more contact between the people involved in this political movement. That would definitely be a good thing!
I am going to Lisbon and Madeira at the start of January next year speak to the local PAN representatives, as part of my work to promote ties between the various Parties for the Animals. Madeira has one PAN representative in parliament and Lisbon voted one in recently as well. It’s wonderful seeing PAN give shape to a political animal rights party in Portugal!
