Novita’ importante! I Paesi Bassi hanno insistito di avere un divieto europeo per l’importo di lana d’angora. Il segretario Dijksma di Agricoltura aveva denunciato la nostra mozione sull’argomento, poiche’ si sentiva troppo afrettata dalla Camera. La Camera pero’ gli ha espresso l’opinione che debba impegnarsi di piu’. Esiste una maggioranza che e’ d’accordo con noi che trova inacettabile che esistano dei prodotti in vendiate nei Paesi Bassi che contengano la lana fatta da conigli angora, che devono soffrire cosi’ tanto.

Dalle immagini dell’organizzazione per i diritti degli animali PETA si evince che i conigli soffrono inaccettabilmente per la produzione di lana d’angora in Cina. Vengono spellati mentre strillano di dolore. Dopo essere spellati vengono abbandonati nelle loro gabbie piccole e sporche per rimanere per terra paralizzati. Ogni tre mesi viene ripetuto il processo per circa cinque anni e poi vengono macellati e spellati. Il novanta percento della lana angora viene dalla Cina, dove non esistono punizioni per l’abuso degli animali negli allevamenti di coniglio e dove non esistono regole per la cura degli animali.

Gia’ l’anno scorso ho fatto delle domande alla Camera relativamente alle immagini di PETA. Grandi aziende di moda come H&M e WE hanno smesso la vendita di prodotti fatti di lana d’angora dopo una nostra iniziativa di email per protestare. Meno male che ora sono stati fatti dei passi in piu’ per eliminare del tutto la lana d’angora.

La Camera ha accettato anche una mozione che il Partito Socialistico ha preparato insieme a noi per un divieto europeo di importo di pelliccia di procione.

La settimana scorsa ho fatto delle domande sui rischi per l’uomo che mangia la carne dalla griglia. E’ stato dimostrato che la carne fresca nel supermercato contiene dei batteri pericolosi di vita che fanno ammallare. Ben 80 percento del pollo contiene batteri che sono una minaccia grave per la nostra salute!

Ogni estate centinaie di migliae di persone si ammalono grazie a della carne marcia. I supermercati guardano solo il prezzo per quanto riguarda la carne per la griglia. La produzione piu’ economica possibile di piu’ carne possibile e’ a scapito del benessere degli animali, ma anche della salute dell’uomo. I consumatori rischiano di essere infettati a causa di carne marcia. Sono stati identificati addirittura dei batteri che sono un pericolo per la vita.

Ho fatto anche delle domandesui viaggi all’estero dove tiene luogo la caccia di animali a rischio di estinzione per ottenere delle trofee. E’ possibile nei Paesi Bassi di prenotare un viaggio per andara a caccia di animali a rischio di estinzione. Che roba strana…

Vogliamo un’investigazione che valuti la possibilita’ di ritirare i permessi di caccia dei cacciatori olandesi che hanno ucciso all’estero un animale che e’ sulla lista dell’IUCN di specie a rischio di estinzione. Vogliamo anche un divieto per l’organizazzione di viaggi di trofee dai Paesi Bassi.

Si e’ parlato molto nei Paesi Bassi sulle sperimentazioni sui labrador da parte dell’Universita’ di Maastricht. Molte persone hanno firmato una petizione che chiede di smettere le sperimentazioni sui cani. Al momento l’Universita’ ha sospeso tali sperimentazioni.

La settimana scorsa e’ uscita la novita’ che l’universita’ ha deciso invece di andare avanti con queste sperimentazioni sui labrador. Purtroppo il fatto che avessero sospeso le sperimentazioni non significa che smettono queste sperimentazioni del tutto. La loro dichiarazione per chiarire questo punto ha portato a tante reazioni arrabiate di persone che non erano d’accordo.

Abbiamo fatto delle domande alla Camera sull’argomento e siamo riusciti ad ottenere che a breve termine vi sara’ un dibattito slle sperimentazioni con gli animali. Vogliamo che finiscano il prima possible! E’ stupendo che vi siano tante persone che protestano contro le sperimenatzioni con gli animali. Ci aiuta nei dibattiti nella Camera.

Breaking news! At our urgent request, the Netherlands is finally going to try and impose a European import ban on angora wool.State Secretary of Agriculture Dijksma advised against the motion that we had submitted before because she felt hunted by the House. But the House wants her to take action any way. The majority agrees with us that it’s unacceptable that products are sold in the Netherlands that contain wool of angora rabbits that have suffered so badly.

Pictures of the animal rights organisation PETA demonstrate how rabbits are subjected to indescribable suffering for the production of angora wool in China. Rabbits scream of pain while their fur is ripped out. After their fur has been ripped out, they are left in shock to lie motionless in their small, dirty cages. After they have had to suffer this process every three months for two to five years, the animals are slaughtered and their fur is removed. Ninety percent of angora wool is from China, where there is no punishment for cruelty to animals in rabbit farms and where there are no rules for looking after animals.

Last year, I already asked parliamentary questions after seeing the pictures of PETA. Big fashion chains like H&M and WE stopped the sale of products containing angora wool after a protest mail campaign set by us. It’s great that more steps have been taken to completely ban angora.

The House also adopted a motion that the Socialist Party submitted together with us for a European trade and import ban on raccoon dog fur.

Last week I asked questions about the risks that people encounter when eating meat for the barbecue. Research has shown that fresh meat in supermarkets contain life-threatening and pathogenic bacteria. As much as 80 percent of poultry appears to contain bacteria that seriously threaten human health!

Every summer hundreds of thousands of people get sick because of contaminated meat. Supermarkets just focus on the price of the barbecue meat. Producing as much as possible meat at a minimum price is detrimental to animal welfare, but also to human health. Consumers currently run a great risk of getting food poisining due to contaminated meat. Even life-threatening bacteria were found.

I have also asked questions on trophy trips during which endangered species are hunted abroad. It’s possible in the Netherlands to go to a travel agency to book a trophy trip to go hunting for endangered and protected species. This is just bizarre…

We want research into the possibility of withdrawing the hunting licences of Dutch hunters if it is evidenced that they have killed an animal abroad that is listed on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. We also want it stopped that such trophy trips can be arranged from the Netherlands.

Great concern arose in the Netherlands about the testing that is to be carried out on labradors by the University of Maastricht. Over the last few weeks, many people signed the petition that wants to stop the testing on dogs. The University suspended the testing at first.

However, last week it was on the news that this University has decided to continue the testing on labradors any way. The fact that they had suspended the testing did unfortunately not mean that they would stop the testing all together. Their statement to clarify this intention did again result in many indignant responses.

We asked parliamentary questions on this and we managed to arrange a debate in the short term about animal testing. We want to ban all animal testing as soon as possible. It’s great to see that so many people are protesting against animal testing. That will help us during the parliamentary debates.
