Worldlog Settimana 29 – 2013
In quest’ultimo Worldlog, prima delle ferie estive, t’informo volentieri delle ultime novità.
Il sottosegretario per gli affari economici, che comprende anche l’agricoltura, Dijksma farà, dopo pressione da parte nostra, ricerche riguardante lo scarico di pesce in mare. Recentemente Greenpeace ha rilevato che un super-peschereccio olandese ha scaricato un milione e mezzo di aringhe morte nel mare per fare spazio per un branco di aringhe di (ancora) migliore qualità. Questa cosi detta “selezione qualitativa” è vietata, ma c’è quasi nessun controllo sulla pesca in mare aperto. Noi vogliamo un giro di vite sulla pesca illegale e perciò abbiamo chiesto il sottosegretario di mappare questa frode. In risposta alla nostra mozione sull’argomento il sottosegretario ha promesso di iniziare una ricerca.
L’estate è iniziata e tante persone godono delle calde giornate estive. Ma durante questo periodo molti animali soffrono, come animali che vivono in stalle da bestiame, chiuse quasi ermeticamente e, dove la ventilazione non funziona (bene).
In queste stalle chiuse la ventilazione è necessaria per gli animali per sopra vivere. La ventilazione è molto sensibile a errori tecnici, che possono avere gravi conseguenze per il benessere degli animali. A causa di cattiva ventilazione nella stalla possono aumentare velocemente le concentrazioni di ammoniaca, il che può causare agli animali dei problemi di salute come irritazioni alle vie respiratorie e lo sviluppo di germi. Inoltre, le temperature elevate in estate causano gravi problemi per il benessere degli animali. Gli animali non hanno accesso ad aria fresca e non hanno la possibilità di rinfrescarsi con le alte temperature. Purtroppo si segnalano regolarmente incidenti riguardanti ventilatori difettosi nelle stalle che possono causare il soffocamento degli animali per mancanza di aria fresca. Per esempio nel mese di giugno 1100 maiali sono soffocati dopo che il sistema di ventilazione in una stalla è saltato.
Questo non può continuare e quindi la nostra frazione ha chiesto al governo tramite una mozione, di fare dei controlli extra durante i mesi estivi sulla temperatura e la qualità dell’aria nelle stalle. Mi fa molto piacere che la nostra proposta ha avuto sufficiente sostengo nella Camera, in modo che i controlli supplementari vengono fatti.
In Kenya tre tonnellate di avorio sono state intercettate che stavano per essere spediti in Malesia come noccioline. Il commercio dell’avorio deve fermarsi velocemente!
Come detto questo è il mio ultimo Worldlog prima della pausa estiva, a fine agosto ci sarà di nuovo un Worldlog. Come posso chiudere questo blog meglio che con i filmati di Severn Suzuki e Luiz Antonio; due giovani e stimolanti protettori degli animali. Molto interessante da guardare!

In this last Worldlog before the summer recession, I would like to inform you of the latest news.
On our urgent request, State Secretary Dijksma of Economic Affairs, which includes Agriculture, will investigate the dumping of fish at sea. Greenpeace recently revealed that a Dutch supertrawler threw one and half million dead herring into the sea to make room for a school of herring of a (n) (even) better quality. This so-called ‘high-grading’ is prohibited, but there is hardly any control on the fishing on open sea. We want the government to tackle illegal fishing and have asked the State Secretary to investigate the extent of the fraud. In response to our motion, the State Secretary has promised to start such investigation.
Summer has started and many people are enjoying the warm summer days. But during these days many animals are suffering, like the animals packed in tight stables where ventilation is not working (properly).
Ventilation is essential for animals to be able to survive in closed stables. Ventilation is vulnerable to technical failures, which can impact animal welfare in a major way. Ammonia concentrations in stables can greatly increase through bad ventilation, which can lead to animal health problems, such as irritated airways and the creation of germs. High temperatures in summer also lead to serious welfare issues. The animals have no access to fresh air and have no possibility to cool down when temperatures are hot. Unfortunately, incidents are regularly reported involving defective ventilation in stables through which animals can suffocate because of the lack of fresh air. For example, 1100 pigs died in June after the ventilation system in the stable broke down.
This should not happen again and that’s why our party called the government through a motion to carry out extra inspections during the summer months on temperatures and air quality in stables. I am really pleased that our motion was supported by enough members of the Parliament, as a result of which extra inspections will be carried out.
In Kenya three tonnes of ivory was intercepted that would be transported as peanuts to Malaysia. Ivory trade should be banned quickly!
As previously said, this is my last Worldlog before the summer recession; a new Worldlog will appear again at the end of August. There is no better way to finish this blog than by showing the films of Severn Suzuki and Luiz Antonio; two young and inspiring animal protectors. Great stuff to watch!
