Worldlog Semana 29 – 2013
En este último Worldlog antes del receso de verano les informo las últimas noticias.
El secretario de estado Dijksma de Asuntos Económicos, bajo el que también cae Agricultura, a nuestra urgente petición, investigará sobre los deshechos de pescado en el mar. Hace poco Greenpeace dió a conocer que un supertrawler holandés tiró al mar un millón y medio de arenques muertos para dejar lugar a nuevos arenques de mejor cualidad. Esta llamada ‘higkgrading’ está prohibida, pero hay poco control en la pesca en mar abierto. Nosotros deseamos una intervención más estricta en la pesca ilegal y por eso le pedimos al secretario de estado investigar este fraude. Con motivo de nuestra moción al respecto el secretario de estado aceptó comenzar tal investigación.
El verano ha comenzado y mucha gente goza de los calurosos días de verano. Peru durente este período muchos animales sufren, como los animales que viven en establos cerrados en los cuales no funciona bien la ventilación.
En los establos cerrados es indispensable la ventilación para que los animales sobrevivan. La ventilación es muy sensible a fallas técnicas, lo que puede tener grandes consecuencias para el bienestar de los animales. Con una mala ventilación puede aumentar fuertemente los concentrados de amoníaco, lo que conduce a problemas de salud en los animales, tales como irritación de las vías respiratorias y la aparición de bacilos. Las altas temperaturas en el verano producen también serios problemas en el bienestar. Los animales no tienen acceso a aire fresco y no reciben la oportunidad de refrescarse durante las temperaturas altas. Desgraciadamente en forma regular se informan incidentes sobre ventiladores defectuosos en establos, con lo cual los animales pueden asficciarse por falta de aire fresco. En Junio murieron por asficcia 1.100 cerdos por un ventilador defectuoso.
Esto no puede seguir así y por eso nuestra fracció ha pedido al Gobierno, por medio de una moción que realice controles extra durante los meses de verano sobre la temperatura y calidad de aire en los establos. Estoy contenta que nuestra moción haya recibido suficiente apoyo en la Cámara, con lo cual habrá controles extra.
En Kenia se descubrieron 3 toneladas de nácar que trasladaban a Malasia como maní. ¡El comercio de nácar debe detenerse rapidamente!.
Como ya dije este fué mi último Worldlog antes del receso de verano, a fines de Agosto aparecerá otra vez un nuevo Worldlog. La mejor forma de terminar este período es los documentales de Severn Suzuki y Luiz Antonio; dos jóvenes e inspiradores protectores de animales. ¡Vale la pena mirarlos!.

In this last Worldlog before the summer recession, I would like to inform you of the latest news.
On our urgent request, State Secretary Dijksma of Economic Affairs, which includes Agriculture, will investigate the dumping of fish at sea. Greenpeace recently revealed that a Dutch supertrawler threw one and half million dead herring into the sea to make room for a school of herring of a (n) (even) better quality. This so-called ‘high-grading’ is prohibited, but there is hardly any control on the fishing on open sea. We want the government to tackle illegal fishing and have asked the State Secretary to investigate the extent of the fraud. In response to our motion, the State Secretary has promised to start such investigation.
Summer has started and many people are enjoying the warm summer days. But during these days many animals are suffering, like the animals packed in tight stables where ventilation is not working (properly).
Ventilation is essential for animals to be able to survive in closed stables. Ventilation is vulnerable to technical failures, which can impact animal welfare in a major way. Ammonia concentrations in stables can greatly increase through bad ventilation, which can lead to animal health problems, such as irritated airways and the creation of germs. High temperatures in summer also lead to serious welfare issues. The animals have no access to fresh air and have no possibility to cool down when temperatures are hot. Unfortunately, incidents are regularly reported involving defective ventilation in stables through which animals can suffocate because of the lack of fresh air. For example, 1100 pigs died in June after the ventilation system in the stable broke down.
This should not happen again and that’s why our party called the government through a motion to carry out extra inspections during the summer months on temperatures and air quality in stables. I am really pleased that our motion was supported by enough members of the Parliament, as a result of which extra inspections will be carried out.
In Kenya three tonnes of ivory was intercepted that would be transported as peanuts to Malaysia. Ivory trade should be banned quickly!
As previously said, this is my last Worldlog before the summer recession; a new Worldlog will appear again at the end of August. There is no better way to finish this blog than by showing the films of Severn Suzuki and Luiz Antonio; two young and inspiring animal protectors. Great stuff to watch!
