Worldlog Settimana 07 – 2009

Le ultime settimane vi ho raccontato nei mei Worldlog della genesi del Partito per gli Animali. Molti si chiedono infatti come si fonda un Partito per gli Animali. Questa settimana interrompo la mia storia per riferirvi un numero di cose importanti. La prossima settimana continuerò la mia storia su ‘come si fonda un Partito per gli Animali’.

Questa settimana è stata aperta la caccia a 10 cervi comuni, disposti illegalmente sull’isola olandese Terschelling. Alla fine dell’anno scorso gli abitanti di Terschelling come ‘scherzo’ hanno rilasciato cervi comuni sull’isola. Questi animali di natura non si trovano sull’isola, per cui fu deciso di catturare gli animali e riportarli in posti di accoglienza sulla terraferma. Precedentemente il ministro dell’Agricoltura, in risposta a domande parlamentari, aveva indicato che la caccia ai cervi fosse fuori discussione. La settimana scorsa però il ministro ha annunciato che ha dato il permesso di uccidere i cervi a colpi d’arma da fuoco, dopo che alcuni tentativi di addormentare e catturare gli animali erano falliti. E' inammissibie che adesso vengano impugnate così facilmente le armi. Che i cervi su Terschelling debbano essere considerati come ‘animali stranieri’ (il ministro parla di ‘falsificazione della fauna’ ) non giustifica l’esecuzione sommaria degli stessi animali. E che alcune cerve possibilmente sarebbero gravide rende la situazione ancora più cocente. Inoltre l’unico maschio è già stato preso e la procreazione quindi non deve essere una preoccupazione seria.
Il Partito per gli Animali ha chiamato il ministro in Camera per giustificarsi sull´abbattimento di cerve possibilmente gravide. Inoltre membri del partito sono scesi in piazza sull´isola contro la caccia, mettendo una ghirlanda nel luogo dove è stato ucciso il primo cervo.

Tramite il nostro site olandese abbiamo anche iniziato una protesta e-mail indirizzata al ministero per porre fine all´uccisione a colpi da fuoco dei cervi comuni, in un ultimo tentativo di amnistia per i cervi inermi, che prima furono trascinati da un allevamento fino a Terschelling, occasione in cui il maschio fu privato delle sue corna per faciltarne il trasporto. E adesso dunque la pena di morte senza aver fatto niente di sbagliato.

Protestate con noi contro la caccia ai cervi comuni e firmate sul nostro website la lettera al ministero. La lettera con il tuo nome verrà mandata automaticamente al ministero dell´Agricoltura. Qui potete leggere la lettera in inglese e qui la potete firmare.

Nel caso non aveste letto il mio Wordlog dello scorso anno sulla caccia barbara ai delfini sulle isole Faerö, vorrei richiamare la vostra attenzione sulla nostra azione di protesta contro questa caccia crudele. Leggete qui sulla protesta (in inglese) e scrivete qui il vostro nome e indirizzo e-mail sotto la mail di protesta, che prega il presidente della camera delle isole Faerö di vietare l’annuale caccia crudele ai delfini.

In my past few Worldlogs I have been relating the story of how we set up the Party for the Animals. This was in response to questions from many of you on how to get such an organisation off the ground. This week, however, I am interrupting my story to report some other important events and will continue my ‘how to start a Party for the Animals’ series next week.

This week the hunt was opened of 10 red deer that were illegally released on the Dutch island of Terschelling late last year as a kind of “joke” by some of the islanders. As these animals are not native to the island, the authorities decided to capture the deer and return them to holding centres on the mainland. Earlier the minister of agriculture, in response to parliamentary questions put by the Party for the Animals, had said there would be no hunt of the red deer. Yet last week the minister admitted that she had granted permission for the deer to be shot after several failed attempts to tranquillise and capture them. It defies belief that rifles are being reached for so readily. That the deer on Terschelling are viewed as “non-native animals” (the minister uses the term “fauna adulteration”) does not justify their summary execution. And the fact that several hinds may be with young makes the situation all the more harrowing. Furthermore, since the only male red deer has been already been captured, there’s no real worry of a population explosion.
The Party for the Animals has summoned the minister to the Lower House to give account of the shooting of red deer that may be with young. Members of the party travelled to the island to draw attention to the hunt by laying a wreath on the spot where the first red deer was shot.

Via our Dutch website, we have also started an e-mail protest campaign to persuade the ministry to stop the culling of the red deer. This is a final attempt to secure an amnesty for these defenceless red deer that have already been dragged to Terschelling from a mainland stock farm, during which the male deer had his antlers removed to ease the transport. And now these completely innocent animals face the death penalty.
