La mucca Hermien ed una sua amica che erano scappate da un macello per la prima volta di nuovo felicissime a pascolo
The cow Hermien and her mate Zus, who made it to the news, both nationally and internationally, after they had literally just escaped slaughter, were finally allowed out in the meadow again after months in their stable. The animals visibly enjoyed their freedom on the grass at the “De Leemweg” rest home for cows in the Dutch village of Zandhuizen, where they have been staying since February.
The owner of the rest home for cows, Bert Hollander, only let the cows outside last week because the weather and the grass were not optimal before. The grass is now high enough again and the cows can play in the meadow all day long until November.
“Cowfunding”
The story of Hermien and Zus started last December. They, together with other cows, were to be brought to the slaughterhouse. Fifteen cows entered the cattle truck without making any trouble, but Hermien and her mate Zus escaped. Cow Zus was quickly caught again, but Hermien stayed out of the hands of hunters, policemen, vets and farmers for weeks. But they continued trying to catch her.
After their spectacular escape, many Dutch people called for a stay of execution of both animals. Thanks to the “cowfunding plan” of the Dutch Party for the Animals, for which EUR 50,000 was raised, the freedom of both Hermien and Zus could be bought. The cows Zus and Hermien were finally brought to the rest home for cows last February. The rest of the money raised will be used to pay for the life-long care of both cows.

The Party for the Animals’ MP Esther Ouwehand was involved in the rescue operation of the cows from day one, and she was also there when the cows went to the meadow first. “They’re obviously very happy. They jump for joy and it’s great fun to watch them hang around together. Both cows reminded us of an important lesson: no animal wants to be brought to the slaughter. Non-human animals want their freedom too.”

La mucca Hermien e la sua amica Zus, che in precedenza avevano fatto notizia a livello nazionale e internazionale dopo essere letteralmente sfuggite al massacro, potevano la settimana scorsa finalmente entrare nel pascolo dopo alcuni mesi nella stalla. Gli animali godevano visibilmente della loro libertà sull’erba presso la casa di riposo per mucche “De Leemweg” nel villaggio olandese di Zandhuizen, dove vivono da febbraio.
Il proprietario della casa di riposo per mucche, Bert Hollander, ha fatto uscire della stalla le mucche solamente la settimana scorsa, perché il tempo e l’erba prima ancora non erano ottimali. Ora l’erba è abbastanza alta e le mucche possono continuare a giocare al pascolo tutto il giorno fino a novembre.

La storia di Hermien e Zus cominciava nel dicembre scorso. Allora dovevano andare dal macello insieme ad altre mucche. Quindici mucche entravano nel camion del bestiame, ma Hermien e la sua amica Zus sono scappate. La mucca Zus dopo poco è stata catturata, ma Hermien è riuscita di rimanere per settimane lontano da cacciatori, agenti di polizie, veterinari e agricoltori. La caccia alla mucca non si è fermata.
Dopo la spettacolare fuga molti olandesi hanno chiesto il rinvio dell’esecuzione per entrambi gli animali. Grazie ad una “azione di cowfunding” del Partito per gli Animali olandese, con la quale sono stati raccolti 50.000 euro, Hermien e Zus potevano essere riscattate. A febbraio le mucche Zus e Hermien sono state portate alla casa di riposo per mucche. Il resto della somma raccolta verrà usato per la cura per tutta la vita di entrambe le mucche.

L’onorevole del Partito per gli Animali Esther Ouwehand è stata coinvolta nel salvataggio delle mucche dal primo giorno ed era presente anche al loro primo giorno al pascolo: “Sono chiaramente molto felici. Fanno dei salti ed è bellissimo vedere che sono anche diventate delle amiche. Queste mucche ci hanno ricordato una lezione importante: nessun animale vuole andare al macello. Anche animali non-umani vogliono libertà.”
