Worldlog Semaine 36 – 2015

Les vacances d’été parlementaires ont fini, ce qui signifie que j’irai de nouveau me battre dans l’Assemblée nationale néerlandaise cette nouvelle année. Il a beau avoir été des vacances d’été, mais cela ne veut pas dire que je n’ai rien fait !

Par exemple j’ai été invitée de venir parler à un congrès au Portugal concernant l’avenir de notre alimentation. Par cette conférence le maire portugais espérait agrandir la conscience de la nourriture durable, saine et favorable aux animaux. Selon l’organisation de l’agriculture de l’UN FAO on aura besoin de 60 pourcent de plus de nourriture en 2050 pour nourrir la population mondiale croissante. Tandis que la terre se trouve déjà sous une immense pression. La fourchette et le couteau sont nos armes les plus puissants pour sauvegarder le monde pour les nouvelles générations. A cette conférence je me suis honorée de réfléchir ensemble avec des scientifiques, diététiciens et des politiciens nationaux et régionaux à la question comment on pourra s’attaquer d’une manière pragmatique au problème de l’alimentation mondiale. Tout le monde peut aider une bouchée!

Avant l’été j’étais très occupée par la défense de la chasse de plaisance. Le Parti du Travail (PvdA) avait indiqué dans son programme d’élection d’interdire la chasse de plaisance, mais quand on en a voté dans l’Assemblée nationale néerlandaise le parti n’a pas tenu sa parole. La fondation Dier & Recht (Animal & Droit) a porté plainte à l’organisation néerlandaise ‘Reclame Code Commissie’(Commission pour la Code de la Publicité), pour mensonge et tromperie de l’électorat. Je souhaite la fondation Dier & Recht beaucoup de chance à cette affaire !

Le premier week-end du mois d’août l’Amsterdam Gay Pride a eu lieu. Cette édition notre parti a participé à la parade des bateaux par les canaux d’Amsterdam. Et j’en suis très fière! Le Parti pour les Animaux est contre toutes formes de discrimination et défend les intérêts des groupes vulnérables et/ou désavantagés. C’était une bonne fête et le bateau plein de membres fiers était tout beau. Pour un beau reportage de photos, regardez ici.

Chaque été aux îles Féroé (une province autonome de Danemark) des abattages barbares des dauphins ont lieu, sous prétexte de « tradition ». Les cous des dauphins sont coupés et on lance des crochets dans les évents. C’est horrible… Aussi j’ai demandé à notre gouvernement ce qu’il a entrepris contre ces cruautés et si les Pays-Bas veulent réprimander le gouvernement danois , car il faut que cela s’arrête !

Malheureusement en été il y a toujours des chiens abandonnés dans des voitures fermées, souvent avec des conséquences fatales. C’est-à-dire que dans une voiture fermée la température monte très vite ! Un groupe de musiciens de la Croatie, qui se fait entendre régulièrement concernant les questions du bien-être des animaux, a montré par ce court métrage comment cela peut vite tourner mal, en s’enfermant eux-mêmes dans une voiture. Le directeur de notre bureau scientifique est aussi monté dans une voiture brûlante pareille. Quels héros pour effectuer cette action !

Cet été il y avait aussi une nouvelle animalière particulière de la Servie. Un petit chien qui avait sauvé un enfant n’a pas survécu cette action d’héros lui-même. Le chien a sa propre statue maintenant. C’est très particulier, car c’est la première fois qu’en Servie, un pays plein de chiens errants et un pays qui fait face aux grands problèmes dans le domaine du bien-être des animaux, un animal est honoré par une propre statue. J’espère que cette action fera réfléchir les gens à notre relation avec des animaux.

The summer recess has come to an end, which means I am going to work hard again in the Lower House this year. It may have been summer holidays, but that does not mean I have not been busy!

For example, I was invited to speak at a conference on the future of our food in Portugal. With this conference, the Portuguese mayor hoped to raise awareness about sustainable, healthy and animal-friendly foods. According to the UN agricultural organisation FAO, we will need more 60% more food in 2050 to feed the growing world population. Whereas the planet is already under great pressure. Forks and knives are our most powerful weapons to save the world for future generations. I found it an honour to think along with scientists, nutritionists and national and local politicians on this conference in Portugal about the question of how to address the world food problem in a pragmatic manner. Everyone can lend a helping bite!

Before the summer, I was very busy with the ban on pleasure hunting. The election programme of the Labour Party (PvdA) stated they wanted to ban pleasure hunting, but they failed to fulfil their promise when this was voted on in the Lower House of Parliament. The Animal & Right Foundation filed a complaint with the Dutch organisation Advertising Code Committee for misguidance and deception of the electorate. I wish the Animal & Right Foundation the best of luck in this case!

The annual Amsterdam Gay Pride took place in the first weekend of August. This time, our party took part in the boat parade through the Amsterdam canals. And I am very proud of it! The Party for the Animals is against any form of discrimination and defends the interests of vulnerable and/or disadvantaged groups. It was a fine festivity and the boat full of proud members looked wonderful. For a great photo report, click here.

In the Faroe Islands (an autonomous province of Denmark), barbaric massacres of dolphins take place every summer, under the guise of “tradition”. The necks of dolphins are cut and hooks are inserted into their blow-holes. Gruesome… I have therefore asked our government what steps they have taken against this and whether the Netherlands want to critically confront the Danish government with this, because this really must stop!

Unfortunately, dogs are still left behind in locked cars in the summer heat, often with fatal consequences. In a closed vehicle, the temperature rises very fast! With this video, a musical band from Croatia who regularly speaks out on animal welfare issues showed how fast this can go wrong by locking themselves up in a car. The director of our scientific bureau also got into such a sweltering car this summer. What heroes to perform this act!

There was also special animal news from Serbia this summer. A little dog that saved a child did not survive the heroic act itself. The dog has now been given its own statue. This is very special, because Serbia, a country which has many stray dogs and huge problems in the area of animal welfare, has never before honoured an animal with its own statue. Hopefully, this makes people think about our relationship with animals.
