En agosto me invitaron al Sun Splash Festival Rototom en España. En el programa del Foro Social, participe en una mesa redonda sobre el tema: El cambio climático, entre vacas y aceite.
Entre otras cosas entre en la discusión con Sara Pizzinato de Greenpeace España. El periodista Nacho Martin nos presentó ante una sala llena y dirigió la discusión. Desde Greenpeace se hizo hincapié en las fuentes de energia como una solución.
Con mi enfoque en el cuchillo y el tenedor como un arma contra el cambio climático pude dar al publico – en su mayoría jóvenes – un mensaje positivo. Puedes contribuir a un mejor medio ambiente mediante el ajuste de tu dieta y comer menos carne o (preferiblemente) no comer del todo carne. Si deseas saber más acerca de los efectos del consumo de carne, entonces te recomiendo de todo corazón ver el documental Meat The Truth que hice junto con la oficina científica del Partido para los Animales.
Positivo: El periodista Nacho al inicio de la jornada aun comia carne, pero al final del día se hizo vegetariano. En el festival hubo una excelente seleccion de comida vegetariana!
Fue agradable ver que los jóvenes son tan socialmente involucrados y les encanta entrar en conversacion sobre lo que pueden hacer por sí mismos.
En la semana pasada nos llegaron noticias interesantes desde Francia. El Secretario de Estado de Comercio de Francia quiere que la Unión Europea pare las negociaciones con los EE.UU. sobre el acuerdo comercial controversial TTIP porque las negociaciones con los EE.UU. no eatan tomando lugar en forma justa. El Presidente Hollande dijo que las negociaciones con los EE.UU. tampoco son equilibradas, y dijo que de esta manera nunca se puede llegar a un acuerdo antes de finales de este año, como quiere la Comisión Europea. El Vicecanciller alemán Sigmar Gabriel hasta hizo saber que según él TTIP ya fracaso!
Este peligroso acuerdo comercial con los EE.UU. debe absolutamente ser cancelado, por lo que es bueno escuchar que la crítica proviene de los políticos franceses y alemanes. Mas critica por favor, esta vez proveniente de Alos Países Bajos!
Por último, me gustaría compartir con ustedes una gran noticia que nos llego en este verano. Chiara Appendino, el nuevo alcalde de Turín, quiere hacer de urín una ciudad vegetariana. Ella ha escrito un manifiesto de hasta 62 páginas sobre esto. Adelante Chiara!
El receso de verano en el Parlamento ha finalizado. Asi que a partir de esta semana entramos a trabajar nuevamente y con ganas!

In August, I was a guest at the Rototom Sunsplash Festival in Spain. In the Social Forum Programme, I took part in a forum discussion themed ‘Climate change, between cows and oil’.
I discussed this theme with Sara Pizzinato of Greenpeace Spain, among others. The discussion was led by journalist Nacho Martin, who introduced us to the packed audience. Greenpeace especially focused on alternative energy sources as a possible solution.
Focusing on what we eat as a way of combating climate change, I was able to send a positive message to the mostly young audience. By adjusting your diet and eating less or rather no meat, you will contribute to a better climate. If you would like to know more about the impact of meat consumption, I heartily recommend my documentary Meat the Truth, which I made in cooperation with the Party for the Animals’ scientific bureau.
Nice to know: Nacho started the day as a meat eater, but ended it a vegetarian. Moreover, there were some great vegan options at the festival!
It was great to see how socially involved young people are and how they are eager to learn what they can do themselves.
Last week, there was some interesting news from France. The French State Secretary for Trade wants the European Union to cancel the negotiations with the United States on the controversial trade deal TTIP, because they are said to be unfair. French President Hollande called the negotiations with the US unbalanced and said that this way, no agreement will be reached before the end of the year, as desired by the European Commission. German vice chancellor Sigmar Gabriel even stated that, according to him, TTIP has de facto failed.
As this dangerous trade deal between the EU and the US should indeed be stopped, it is good to hear criticism from French and German politicians. Hopefully Dutch politicians will do the same!
To conclude, I would like to share with you an interesting piece of news that I picked up this summer. Chiara Appendino, the new mayor of Turin, wants to make Turin a vegetarian city. She has written a manifesto on her ideas of no less than 62 pages. Go Chiara!
Summer recess of the Lower House is over, so we are back in business this week!
