În luna august am fost la festivalul Rototom Sun Splash Festival din Spania în calitate de invitat. În cadrul programului Formului Social am participat la o discuție pe tema: Climate change, between cows and oil.
Printre altele, am discutat cu Sara Pizzinato de la Greenpeace Spania. Jurnalistul Nacho Martin ne-a introdus în fața întregii săli și a pornit o discuție. Greenpeace este de părere că cele mai importante sunt sursele alternative de energie.
Concentrându-mă pe obișnuitele cuțite și furculițe drept arme împotriva schimbării climatice, am putut transmite un mesaj pozitiv publicului format din foarte mulți tineri. Poți aduce o contribuție considerabilă către un climat mai bun prin ajustarea alimentației și prin consumul redus de carne (sau preferabil, renunțarea la aceasta). Dacă doriți să știți mai multe despre efectele consumului de carne, vă sfătuiesc să urmăriți documentarul Meat the Truth, pe care l-am realizat împreună cu departamentul științific din cadrul Partidului pentru Animale.
Interesant: La începutul zilei, Nacho era consumator de carne, însă până la sfârșitul zilei a devenit vegetarian. La festival au fost numeroase mâncăruri vegetariene!
A fost frumos să văd că oamenii tineri sunt atât de preocupați de societate și se implică cu plăcere în discuții cu privire la ce pot face.
Săptămâna trecută au sosit vești interesante din Franța. Secretarul de stat pentru comerț exterior din Franța dorește ca Uniunea Europeană să amâne negocierile cu SUA cu privire la controversatul TTIP, deoarece acestea nu s-ar desfășura într-un mod corect. Președintele Hollande a numit de asemenea negocierile cu SUA drept dezechilibrate și a declarat că în acest fel nu poate ajunge la un consens până la sfârșitul anului, așa cum și-ar dori Comisia Europeană. Vicecancelarul german Sigmar Gabriel este de asemenea de părare că în fapt, TTIP deja a eșuat!
Acest acord periculos cu SUA trebuie neapărat să iasă din discuție, deci este bine de știut că politicienii francezi și germani îl critică. Acum să vină și criticile din partea neerlandezilor!
În final vreau să împărtășesc cu voi încă o știre bună, apărută vara aceasta. Chiara Appendino, noul primar din Torino, dorește ca Torino să devină un stat vegetarian. Cu privire la aceasta a scris și un manifest de 62 pagini. Go Chiara!
Vacanța de vară a membrilor Camerei Deputaților s-a terminat, deci o luăm de la capăt începând cu săptămâna aceasta!

In August, I was a guest at the Rototom Sunsplash Festival in Spain. In the Social Forum Programme, I took part in a forum discussion themed ‘Climate change, between cows and oil’.
I discussed this theme with Sara Pizzinato of Greenpeace Spain, among others. The discussion was led by journalist Nacho Martin, who introduced us to the packed audience. Greenpeace especially focused on alternative energy sources as a possible solution.
Focusing on what we eat as a way of combating climate change, I was able to send a positive message to the mostly young audience. By adjusting your diet and eating less or rather no meat, you will contribute to a better climate. If you would like to know more about the impact of meat consumption, I heartily recommend my documentary Meat the Truth, which I made in cooperation with the Party for the Animals’ scientific bureau.
Nice to know: Nacho started the day as a meat eater, but ended it a vegetarian. Moreover, there were some great vegan options at the festival!
It was great to see how socially involved young people are and how they are eager to learn what they can do themselves.
Last week, there was some interesting news from France. The French State Secretary for Trade wants the European Union to cancel the negotiations with the United States on the controversial trade deal TTIP, because they are said to be unfair. French President Hollande called the negotiations with the US unbalanced and said that this way, no agreement will be reached before the end of the year, as desired by the European Commission. German vice chancellor Sigmar Gabriel even stated that, according to him, TTIP has de facto failed.
As this dangerous trade deal between the EU and the US should indeed be stopped, it is good to hear criticism from French and German politicians. Hopefully Dutch politicians will do the same!
To conclude, I would like to share with you an interesting piece of news that I picked up this summer. Chiara Appendino, the new mayor of Turin, wants to make Turin a vegetarian city. She has written a manifesto on her ideas of no less than 62 pages. Go Chiara!
Summer recess of the Lower House is over, so we are back in business this week!
