Os perigos do micro plástico dos quais fizermos perguntas parlamentares no início de outubro, estão sendo finalmente agora reconhecidos pelo secretário de Estado Atsma do meio ambiente! Em resposta às nossas perguntas Atsma diz que o uso de micro-plásticos realmente contribui à formação da sopa de plástico, ou seja o depósito de lixo flutuante no meio do oceano. Atsma ainda prometeu que iria levantar a questão na Comissão Européia para analisar as possibilidades de redução de emissão de micro-plásticos.

O problema é o seguinte: em muitos produtos de cuidados pessoais, existem pequenas partículas de plástico. Este plástico não se dissolverá após o uso, mas desaparece com a água do chuveiro e vai parar em estações de tratamento de água. Devido as partículas serem muito pequenas para filtrar da água, elas vão deslizando através do esgoto até chegarem no mar, onde o plástico é comido por peixes e mariscos, e causam o envenenamento do mar. Estas partículas de plástico podem ser facilmente substituídas por alternativas naturais. Isso não aconteceu porque o uso de plásticos em cuidados até agora é permitido. Acreditamos que o problema na fonte deve ser abordado, e exigimos uma proibição da venda de cosméticos e cuidados pessoais que contenham micro plástico.

Sexta de manhã acordei corada, porque recebi de 97 por cento dos jovens uma pontuação de 8,2 para o meu trabalho no parlamento. A operação do nosso grupo para 91 por cento dos jovens foi avaliada como boa. O programa de televisão holandesa EénVandaag perguntou a mais de 1600 jovens que são membros de uma organização de jovens políticos, como eles julgam a operação do seu próprio partido e o que eles acham do atual governo Rutte. Oitenta por cento dos membros PINK! sentem que o Partido para os Animais seja uma alternativa clara oposição aos planos do governo e fornece 81 por cento acredita que o partido deve continuar a ir como estão agora. Algo para se orgulhar!

No próximo domingo há eleições na Espanha. Pacma, o partido espanhol para os animais, também participa. Eu torcendo aqui na Holanda para uma grande eleição com vários assentos no parlamento. Para as últimas notícias sobre as eleições você pode olhar http://www.pacma.es/.

E, infelizmente, o abate de animais sem atordoamento ainda continua na Austrália. Vamos agendar que em 13 de dezembro poderemos convencer o Senado a necessidade de uma proibição de abate ritual sem atordoamento, na Holanda. Liberdade religiosa termina onde o sofrimento (dos animais) começa.

Junto com o jogo, está claro como mensagem principal que a matança de cães raccoon para tirar sua pele deve parar. Em todo o mundo, incluindo os Países Baixos, as pessoas compram casacos com golas de pele feita a partir da pele de cães raccoon. O Partido para os Animais e os advogados continuam a defender uma Holanda livre de pele de animais.

E uma boa notícia vindo dos EUA. Há um projeto de lei para proibir os animais selvagens em circos. A proposta foi feita na Câmara dos Representantes pelo democrata Jim Moran. Ele quer acabar com o show de elefantes se apresentando em banquinhos e tigres fazendo saltos através de aros. Esperemos que a proposta seja aceita.

The dangers of microplastics, which were the subject of Parliamentary questions we submitted in early October, are now finally being recognized by State Secretary for the Environment Atsma! In responding to our questions, Atsma admits that microplastics do indeed contribute to the formation of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. Atsma went on to promise that he would raise the matter with the European Commission to find out what can be done to reduce the discharge of microplastics.

The problem is as follows: many personal care products, such as scrubs and peelings, contain minuscule plastic particles. These plastic particles do not dissolve after use but are carried away with the water from your shower to the water treatment plants. Since the particles are too small to be filtered out of the water, they pass through the water treatment plants and eventually end up in the sea, where the plastic is eaten by fish and shellfish and where it poisons the sea. While natural alternatives to these plastic particles exist, these are not used as the use of plastics in personal care products has so far been permitted. We consider this a problem that must be tackled at the source and argue for a ban on the sale of cosmetics and personal care products that contain microplastics.

On Friday morning I woke up with a blush! Ninety-seven percent of our young members had given me an 8.2 report mark for my work in the Lower House. And with 91%, the performance of our parliamentary party also received a thumbs-up from our youth section. Dutch TV programme EenVandaag asked more than 1600 young people who are members of a political youth organization to assess the performance of their own parties and that of the current government led by Mark Rutte. Eighty percent of PINK! members think that, as an opposition party, the Party for the Animals offers clear alternatives to the government’s plans and 81% thinks the party should stay on its current course. Now that is something to be proud of!

Parliamentary elections will be held in Spain next Sunday. PACMA, the Spanish party for the animals, is also standing for election. I will be keeping my fingers crossed here in the Netherlands and hope they are able to secure several seats in the Spanish parliament. For the latest on the elections, go to http://www.pacma.es/.

Unfortunately, the ritual slaughter of animals without prior stunning is still going on in Australia. We are going to do all we can to convince the Upper House on 13 December of the need for a ban on the ritual slaughter of animals without stunning in the Netherlands. While a lot of fun, the game has a serious message: stop the killing of raccoon dogs for their furs. All over the world, including the Netherlands, people buy jackets with fur collars made of the fur of raccoon dogs. The Party for the Animals is striving for a fur-free Netherlands.

And good news from the US, where a bill has been submitted for a ban on the use of wild animals in circuses. The bill was submitted in the House of Representatives by Democrat Jim Moran. He wants to see an end to elephants balancing on stools and tigers jumping through hoops. We hope this bill is adopted.
