Worldlog Semana 39 – 2012

Essa foi uma semana especial. Na terça-feira houve a inauguração oficial do ano parlamentar (Prinsjesdag) e na quinta-feira a instalação da nova Câmara. Além disso o resultado definitivo das eleições foi anunciado. Nos faltaram dois votos em cada município na Holanda para obter 3 cadeiras. Lamentável, mas por outro lado essa foi a campanha de maior êxito nos 10 anos de nossa existência!

Durante o 'Prinsjesdag' eu vesti um magnífico 'battledress' em combinação com uma cinta de munições carregada com cenouras de verão cultivadas ecológicamente na quinta de meu marido. Eu recebi inúmeras reacções a respeito disso! Minha vestimenta foi inspirada por uma idéia de Lydia Guevara, a neta de Che Guevara, que também usa uma cinta com cenouras para a organização internacional para o bem-estar de animais PETA. A Lydia é o rosto da campanha da PETA na América do Sul para lá promover comida vegetariana.

Uma jovem artista no twitter ficou tão inspirada pela vestimenta Vé Guevara que ela criou uma corrente de papel que pode ser pendurada para proteger seu quarto. Se lhe agrada, é fácil de fazer 😉

Com minha cinta de munições isenta de balas no 'Prinsjesdag' eu chamei a atenção para a nossa próxima proposta de lei contra a caça pelo prazer. Além disso eu quis dar a conhecer que existe uma crescente resistência contra o esgotamento da terra e a economia que cresce além de suas forças!

A mensagem que não podemos continuar comendo carne como fazemos agora é captada sempre mais frequentemente pelo mundo inteiro. Leia por exemplo Roger Ebert Journal no Chicago Sun Times sobre comida vegetariana.

Na quinta-feira a Esther e eu fomos novamente ajuramentadas como membros da Câmara Baixa. E novamente nos esforçaremos ao máximo para fazer da Holanda um país mais amigável aos animais e com uma política mais sustentável. Após a ajuramentação houve um debate sobre a constituição dum governo. Para começar os dois grandes vencedores das eleições, o Partido do Trabalho (PvdA) e o Partido Popular para Liberdade e Democracia (VVD) vão falar sobre a formação dum governo. Eu tenho assim as minhas dúvidas sobre a idéia que um governo VVD/PvdA seria a escolha mais óbvia.

Durante a campanha eleitoral houve uma enorme luta titânica entre o Rutte (VVD) e o Samsom (PvdA). O pensamento que agora de repente um governo com os dois combatentes fosse o mais lógico é inverosímil. Só isso já significaria uma demora desnecessária na constituição de tal governo e isso num período que chama por acções enérgicas para superar a crise. Só para salvar as aparências o Rutte e o Samsom deveriam demorar para causar a impressão que trabalharam duro para transformar as contradições irreconciliáveis dos tempos de campanha em proposições conciliáveis em tempos de constituição de governo. Em nossa opinião um próximo governo deve abandonar as idéias limitadas que servem sómente o ser humano e o dinheiro e substituí-las por uma visão onde a compaixão e a sustentabilidade prevalecem.

Como já contei na semana passada a Austrália deu o bom exemplo com a decisão de impedir o enorme barco de pesca holandês (super-arrastão) Margiris de Katwijk de pescar nas águas australianas por pelo menos dois anos. Dessa maneira o Parlamento australiano protege sua natureza marítima contra consequências que poderiam ser dramáticas. Estou muito feliz com essa declaração clara do Parlamento australiano. Pois por enquanto essa ameaça da natureza marítima australiana desapareceu. Felizmente eles deram preferência a uma vida submarina saudável e não ao ganho econômico a curto prazo. Nós achamos essa decisão muito boa e por isso enviamos um telegrama exprimindo nosso apoio!

This has been an interesting week. Tuesday was Prinsjesdag, and Thursday saw the instalment of the new House. What's more, we saw the definitive election results. We received two votes too few in every Dutch municipality to reach three seats. That is a shame, but we did manage to run the most successful campaign of our 10-year existence!

I wore an amazing 'battle dress' for Prinsjesdag, and combined it with a munitions belt filled with ecologically grown summer carrots from my husband's farm. The dress created quite a stir! It was inspired by Che Guevara's granddaughter Lydia Guevara – it was her idea to wear a munitions belt with carrots for PETA – an international animal welfare organisation. Lydia is the face of PETA's South American campaign to promote vegetarian diets.

A young artist on Twitter was so inspired by the Vé Guevara outfit, that she made a paper chain of it that you can hang up to protect your room. If you like the idea, it's easy to do! 😀

I used my bullet-free munitions belt to call attention on Prinsjesdag to our up-and-coming legislative proposal against hunting for sport. I also wanted to highlight the growing resistance to exhausting the earth’s resources and the fact that the economy is outgrowing its strength!

The message that we cannot continue this way with eating meat is gaining momentum all across the world. Read, for example, Roger Ebert's Journal in the Chicago Sun Times about vegetarianism.

On Thursday, Esther and I were once again sworn in as Members of the Lower House. We're resuming the good fight to make the Netherlands a more animal-friendly and sustainable country. After we were sworn in, we debated the cabinet formation. The two biggest winners of the election – the Dutch Labour Party (PvdA), and the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD) – will be the first to discuss Cabinet formation. I believe a VVD/PvdA cabinet is the most obvious choice.

During the election campaign we saw a battle of the titans between Rutte from the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy and Samsom from the Dutch Labour Party. It's so hard to believe that a cabinet with two fighting cocks is now suddenly the most logical choice. For this reason alone, forming a cabinet such as this one will probably take an unnecessarily long time in a period that requires decisiveness to fight the crisis. If only for form, Rutte and Samsom should take a long time to show they worked hard to overcome their insurmountable differences on the campaign trail, now that forming a government still seems an insurmountable task. As far as we are concerned, the next cabinet needs to abandon and replace the small, people-and-money-oriented way of thinking with a vision of the future which focuses on compassion and sustainability.

As I mentioned last week, Australia is showing us how it is done with their decision to exclude the Katwijk-based mega-trawler Margiris from Australian waters for at least two years. The Australian government is hereby protecting its marine nature against possible dramatic consequences. I am incredibly happy with the Australian government's unambiguous statement. It temporarily raised awareness concerning the danger to Australian marine life. They happily choose healthy marine life over short-term economic gain. Because we think this is such a good decision, we've sent a telegram conveying our endorsement!
