Nieuw Worldlog Marianne Thieme

Op moment van schrijven van dit Worldlog lijkt het erop dat we een nieuwe mijlpaal bereikt hebben voor dieren, natuur en milieu. Onze partij behaalde 4,2 procent van de stemmen, wat goed is voor een ruime zetel in het Europees parlement. Voor het eerst in de geschiedenis is er een partij vertegenwoordigd in een internationaal parlement dat opkomt voor de belangen van dieren. Dat is een resultaat waar we trots op mogen zijn!

Hieronder een prachtige fotocompilatie van onze zeer geslaagde campagne. Iedereen die zich heeft ingezet om onze partij groot en zichtbaar te maken de afgelopen tijd wil ik enorm bedanken. Wat hebben we toch een prachtig team. ☺ En natuurlijk niet te vergeten onze fantastische lijst met lijstduwers uit binnen-en buitenland en de vele steunbetuigingen van bekendheden als Paul McCartney, Maneka Gandhi, John Coetzee, Will Kymlicka, Bob Barker en Tom Regan. Echt super dat zij zich achter ons hebben geschaard!

Ook heeft de Duitse Tierschutzpartei een zetel gehaald. Heel fijn dat we nu samen in Brussel kunnen optrekken tegen onder andere dieronvriendelijke ‘tradities’ en de torenhoge landbouwsubsidies.

Het is daarnaast ook zeer belangrijk samen een vuist te maken tegen Brussel wat betreft diertransporten. Afgelopen week werd namelijk bekend dat eurocommissaris Borg geen regels wil gaan maken die het gesleep van dieren in Europa verder aan banden leggen. Nederland en Denemarken hadden hierom gevraagd, gesteund door onder meer Duitsland, Oostenrijk en België.

Ook het Europees parlement wilde een maximum transportduur. Ik had dan ook naar aanleiding van dit bericht de staatssecretaris verzocht de aangenomen motie van ons uit te voeren waarin wij het kabinet verzoeken om een maximum duur vast te stellen voor diertransporten vanuit Nederland. De EU kan wat ons betreft niet langer een excuus zijn voor de staatssecretaris om zelf geen actie te ondernemen. Ik heb erop aangedrongen de moties uit te voeren, maar de staatssecretaris blijft naar Europa wijzen. Blijkbaar kiest de staatssecretaris voor eurocratie in plaats van democratie.

In opdracht van onze partij is er onderzoek uitgevoerd naar de mening van de Nederlandse burger over schaalvergroting in de landbouw. Daaruit kwam naar voren dat een meerderheid van de Nederlanders tegen schaalvergroting in de landbouw is. Mooi nieuws! Wij verzetten ons al jaren tegen de bouw van varkensflats en kippentorens en worden dus gesteund door een ruimte meerderheid van de Nederlanders.

We hebben afgelopen week Kamervragen over de export van levende wolhandkrabben naar voedselautomaten in China. In een uitzending op de Nederlandse televisie werd verslag gedaan van de handel in de in Nederland gevangen wolhandkrabben. Deze krabben worden gevangen, in plastic verpakt en levend over de hele wereld worden verzonden, vooral in China zijn ze erg in trek. Ongelofelijk. We hebben dan ook gepleit voor een directe stop op de export van de wolhandkrab naar China.

At the time of writing this Worldlog, it looks like we have reached a new milestone for animals, nature and the environment. Our party got 4.2 per cent of the votes, which is good for just over one seat in the European Parliament. For the first time in history, a party which stands up for the interests of animals is represented in an international parliament. It’s a result that we can be proud of!

Below is a great photo compilations of our very successful campaign. I would like to thank everyone who put in an effort to make our party big and visible in recent times. We have a wonderful team. ☺ And of course we should not forget about our great list of candidates from home and abroad and the many declarations of support from well-known people like Paul McCartney, Maneka Gandhi, John Coetzee, Will Kymlicka, Bob Barker en Tom Regan. It is fantastic that they supported us.

Also the Tierschutzpartei in Germany has gained one seat. It’s great that we can fight together in Brussels against animal-unfriendly ‘traditions’ and the sky-high agricultural subsidies among others.

Furthermore, it’s very important that we stand up against Brussels as regards animal transports. Last week, it became known that European commissioner Borg refuses to adopt rules to limit animal transports in Europe any further. The Netherlands and Denmark had asked for this, supported by Germany, Austria and Belgium among other countries.

Also the European Parliament wanted to introduce a maximum transport duration. Following this news, I asked the State Secretary to implement our motion adopted, in which we ask the government to set a maximum duration for animal transports from the Netherlands. As far as we are concerned, the EU can no longer be an excuse for the State Secretary not to take action himself. I have urged him to implement the motion, but the State Secretary keeps pointing at Europe. Apparently, the State Secretary is more into eurocracy than democracy.

On the instruction of our party, research was done into the opinion of Dutch citizens on the upscaling in agriculture. The research showed that a majority of the Dutch is against upscaling in agriculture. Good news, as we have been opposing to the construction of pigs apartments and chicken towers for years and are thus supported by a large majority of the Dutch citizens.

Last week, we asked Parliamentary questions about the export of live mitten crabs to vending machines in China. In a broadcast on the Dutch television they reported on the trade of mitten crabs which were caught in the Netherlands. These crabs are caught, packed in plastic, and sent alive all over the world, the are especially popular in China. Unbelievable. We have thus pleaded for an immediate stop to the export of mitten crabs to China.
