Victorie in het Nederlandse plaatsje Daarle! Het kabinet stopt voorlopig met de uitverkoop van natuur in Nederland. Als reden daarvoor noemt staatssecretaris Dijksma de maatschappelijke onrust die over de natuurverkoop is ontstaan. Wij speelden een belangrijke rol in het organiseren van het Groeiend Verzet tegen de uitverkoop van de natuur. Via een ‘woudfunding-campagne’ werd in ruim twee weken tijd een kwart miljoen euro ingezameld om de meest kwetsbare natuur vrij te kopen. Met succes: tijdens de veiling verwierven wij bijna 100.000 m2 natuur. De door onze partij in Daarle verworven natuur zal de geschiedenis ingaan als een monument van groeiend volksverzet!

Een overheid die complete dassenfamilies en hun natuurlijk leefgebied bij opbod verkoopt aan de hoogstbiedende waar de verkoop van beschermde diersoorten zelfs strafbaar is in Nederland, vraagt om het verzet van haar burgers. Een overheid die wel van alles de prijs kent, maar niet de waarde, moet op de huid gezeten worden door verontruste burgers. Dat blijkt te werken 🙂 De eerste slag is gewonnen, regeringsbeleid dat indruist tegen onze natuur zal het niet gaan redden!

Deze week is er een mijlpaal voor dierenwelzijn gerealiseerd: het houden van exotische dieren als huisdier wordt eindelijk aan banden gelegd. Na jarenlange inzet van onze partij en dierenbeschermingsorganisaties presenteerde staatssecretaris Dijksma deze week de Positieflijst voor zoogdieren. Vanaf 2014 mogen particulieren en bedrijven alleen nog dieren houden die op deze lijst staan. Dieren die niet op de lijst staan, zoals wasberen, luipaardkatten en (witstaart) stekelvarkens, mogen niet meer worden gehouden, gefokt en verhandeld. Wat een doorbraak!

Mooi verhaal over stadslandbouw in Seattle! It’s not a Fairytale: Seattle to Build Nation’s First Food Forest. En ook dit verhaal van Ron Finley, een zeer bedreven Guerrilla Gardner in LA, mag je niet missen. Prachtig om te zien hoe particuliere initiatieven van mensen zo’n geweldige uitwerking op buurten en de gezondheid van mens en milieu hebben.

Vorige week is het het Yulin Dog Meat Festival begonnen. Dankzij internationale protesten zou het wel eens voor ’t laatst kunnen zijn, dat zou mooi zijn! Zie deze video voor beelden, maar pas op: schokkend.

Een stadje in Alaska heeft al 15 jaar een kat als burgervader =^.^= In een plaatsje in Mexico kan je nu ook voor een kat stemmen. Het begon als een grapje met de uitdrukking ‘Tired of voting for rats? Vote for a cat’ maar Morris de kat zou wel eens echt de burgemeester van het plaatsje Xalapa kunnen worden.

Ik heb deze week Kamervragen gesteld over opgehangen ezels op Bonaire. Ik wil weten hoe het staat met het beheerplan voor verwilderde ezels dat het Openbaar Lichaam Bonaire zou gaan ontwikkelen. Dit soort praktijken moeten bestreden worden! Zie hier een schokkende foto van de ezels.

Ook Kamervragen gesteld over het buitenproportioneel geweld van de Turkse overheid tegen betogers in Istanbul. De politie in Turkije kiest ervoor om chemische oorlogsvoering tegen demonstranten te gebruiken, dat is echt onacceptabel. Ook dieren lijden enorm onder de aanvalstechnieken van de politie. Vanuit Istanbul is mij verteld dat er alleen al op het Taksimplein 8 honden, 63 katten en 1028 vogels zijn gedood door geweld van de overheid.

Victory in the Dutch village of Daarle! The cabinet has put a provisional stop to nature sales in the Netherlands. The reason for this, according to State Secretary Dijksma, is the social unrest created by the nature sales. We played a significant role in organising the Growing Resistance movement against nature sales. We used a crowd funding campaign to collect a quarter of a million Euros in just over two weeks time to protect our most vulnerable nature reserves. And we were successful too! We bought almost 100,000 square metres of nature during the auction. The nature reserves our party won will go down in history as a monument to growing civil resistance!

A government that sells complete badger families and their environments to the highest bidder, in a place where selling endangered animal species is against the law, requires Dutch citizens to resist. A government that knows what everything costs, but does not know its value needs to be subject to pressure from concerned citizens. And it seems to be working! 🙂 We’ve won the first battle – government policy that goes against our nature will not make it!

We’ve achieved a milestone for animal welfare this week: we’ve finally scrapped being allowed to keep exotic animals as pets. This week, after years of effort by both our party and animal protection organisations, State Secretary Dijksma presented the Positieflist (Positive List). As of 2014, private individuals and businesses may only keep animals that are on this list. Animals that are not on the list, such as racoons, Bengal cats and hedgehogs, are no longer allowed as pets, to be bred, or sold. What a breakthrough!

A small town in Alaska has had a cat as its mayor for 15 years now. =^.^= The populace of a town in Mexico can also vote for a cat. It started as a joke: ‘Tired of voting for rats? Vote for a cat’ but Morris the cat could actually become the mayor of Xalapa.

These week I asked parliamentary questions about donkeys being hanged in Bonaire. I want to know how the plan is going for feral donkeys that the Public Body of Bonaire was to develop. We must fight these kinds of practices! Click here for a shocking photo of the donkeys.

I also asked parliamentary questions about the disproportionate violence the Turkish government used against demonstrators in Istanbul. The police in Turkey chose to use chemical weapons against the demonstrators, which is entirely unacceptable. Animals also suffer enormously from the police’s attacks. People in Istanbul have told me that on Taksim Square alone, 8 dogs, 63 cats, and 1028 birds have been killed by government violence.
