Worldlog Settimana 26 – 2013

Vittoria nella città olandese di Daarle! Il governo ha deciso di smettere per adesso con la svendita di natura nei Paesi Bassi. Come ragione per questa decisione il sottosegretario Dijksma indica l’agitazione sociale che si è creata riguardante la vendita della natura. Noi abbiamo avuto un ruolo importante nell’organizzazione delle Resistenza Crescente contro la svendita della natura. Attraverso una”campagna di finanziamento-di-foresta” sono stati raccolti in due settimane 250.000 Euro per comprare la natura più vulnerabile. Con successo: durante l’asta abbiamo acquisito quasi 100.000 metri quadrati di natura. La natura acquisita dal nostro partito in Daarle entrerà nella storia come un monumento di crescente resistenza popolare!

Una pubblica amministrazione che vende intere famiglie di tassi e il loro habitat naturale all’asta al miglior offerente, dove nei Paesi Bassi la vendita di specie animali protette è punibile, chiede per una resistenza dai suoi cittadini. Una pubblica amministrazione che sa il prezzo di tutto, ma non il valore, deve essere inseguito passo dopo passo dai suoi cittadini allarmati. Sembra che funzioni 🙂 La prima battaglia è stata vinta, una politica che contro la nostra natura non ce la farà!

Questa settimana è raggiunta una pietra miliare per il benessere degli animali: tenere animali esotici come animali domestici sarà finalmente essere limitato. Dopo anni d’impegno dal nostro partito e le organizzazioni di protezione animale il sottosegretario Dijksma ha presentato questa settimana una Lista Positiva per mammiferi. Dal 2014 privati e aziende possono solo tenere animali che stanno su questa lista. Animali non presenti su questa lista, come procioni, gatti leopardo e istrici (coda bianca) non possono più essere tenuti, allevati e commercializzati. Che successo!

Bella storia di agricoltura urbana a Seattle! Non è una favola: Seattle costruisce la Prima Foresta del Cibo della Nazione. E anche questa storia di Ron Finley, un Giardiniere Politico a Los Angeles, non puoi perderti. Fantastico vedere come iniziative private di persone possono avere grande impatto sui quartieri e la salute dell’uomo e l’ambiente.

Oggi comincia il Yulin Dog Meat Festival. Grazie a proteste internazionali potrebbe essere anche per l’ultima volta, che sarebbe una bella cosa! Guarda questo video per immagini, ma attenzione: scioccante.

Una cittadina in Alaska ha già da 15 anni un gatto come sindaco =^.^= In una cittadina messicana adesso puoi votare anche per un gatto. Il tutto è iniziato come scherzo con l’espressione “Sei stanco di votare per ratti? Vota per un gatto” ma Morris il gatto potrebbe veramente diventare sindaco della località Xalapa.

Ho fatto questa settimana delle domande parlamentari riguardanti l’impiccagione di asini su Bonaire. Voglio sapere a che punto è il piano di gestione degli asini selvatici che Organo Pubblico di Bonaire doveva sviluppare. Questo tipo di pratiche deve essere combattute! Ho fatto anche delle interrogazioni parlamentari sulla violenza sproporzionata del governo turco contri i manifestanti a Istanbul. La polizia in Turchia sceglie per l’uso di armi chimici contro i manifestanti, che è davvero inaccettabile. Anche gli animali soffrono dalle tecniche di attacco della polizia. Da Istanbul mi è stato detto che da solo su piazza Taksim 8 cani, 63 gatti e 1028 uccelli sono stati uccisi dalla violenza del governo.

Victory in the Dutch village of Daarle! The cabinet has put a provisional stop to nature sales in the Netherlands. The reason for this, according to State Secretary Dijksma, is the social unrest created by the nature sales. We played a significant role in organising the Growing Resistance movement against nature sales. We used a crowd funding campaign to collect a quarter of a million Euros in just over two weeks time to protect our most vulnerable nature reserves. And we were successful too! We bought almost 100,000 square metres of nature during the auction. The nature reserves our party won will go down in history as a monument to growing civil resistance!

A government that sells complete badger families and their environments to the highest bidder, in a place where selling endangered animal species is against the law, requires Dutch citizens to resist. A government that knows what everything costs, but does not know its value needs to be subject to pressure from concerned citizens. And it seems to be working! 🙂 We’ve won the first battle – government policy that goes against our nature will not make it!

We’ve achieved a milestone for animal welfare this week: we’ve finally scrapped being allowed to keep exotic animals as pets. This week, after years of effort by both our party and animal protection organisations, State Secretary Dijksma presented the Positieflist (Positive List). As of 2014, private individuals and businesses may only keep animals that are on this list. Animals that are not on the list, such as racoons, Bengal cats and hedgehogs, are no longer allowed as pets, to be bred, or sold. What a breakthrough!

This is a wonderful story about urban agriculture in Seattle! It’s not a Fairytale: Seattle to Build Nation’s First Food Forest. It’s great to see how private individuals’ initiatives can have such a great effect on neighbourhoods and on people’s health and the environment.

Today sees the start of the Yulin Dog Meat Festival. And thanks to international protests, this very well could be the last one – which would be nice! Watch this video for images, but please note: the images are shocking.

A small town in Alaska has had a cat as its mayor for 15 years now. =^.^= The populace of a town in Mexico can also vote for a cat. It started as a joke: ‘Tired of voting for rats? Vote for a cat’ but Morris the cat could actually become the mayor of Xalapa.

These week I asked parliamentary questions about donkeys being hanged in Bonaire. I want to know how the plan is going for feral donkeys that the Public Body of Bonaire was to develop. We must fight these kinds of practices! Click here for a shocking photo of the donkeys.

I also asked parliamentary questions about the disproportionate violence the Turkish government used against demonstrators in Istanbul. The police in Turkey chose to use chemical weapons against the demonstrators, which is entirely unacceptable. Animals also suffer enormously from the police’s attacks. People in Istanbul have told me that on Taksim Square alone, 8 dogs, 63 cats, and 1028 birds have been killed by government violence.
