Worldlog Settimana 51 – 2013

Questa settimana si è svolta il Simposio Politica per gli Animali: Teoria e Pratica ad Istanbul. Sono stati due giorni d’ispirazione con relatori e visitatori da tutto il mondo. Tra gli altri il paese ospitante Turchia, Kosovo, Australia, Canada, Stati Uniti, Francia, Israele, Svezia, Serbia, Georgia, Regno Unito, Marocco e Tunisia erano rappresentati. Il simposio è stato organizzato dalla nostra Fondazione Politica Animale.

Ho trovato molto stimolante incontrare persone che hanno messo il loro cuore e l’anima per dare una voce agli animali in politica. I miei colleghi dei partiti per gli animali provenienti dalla Turchia, Australia e Portogallo, come me, hanno tenuto una conferenza sul ruolo del loro partito nel campo socio-politica nel loro paese. E ‘interessante vedere che ci sono cosi tante somiglianze. E bello vedere che il nostro partito olandese è un esempio per i protettori degli animali di tutto il mondo. Anche Maneka Gandhi dall’India ha fatto una presentazione. Lei è una illustre animalista e fu il primo ministro per il benessere degli animali in India. Una persona speciale e fonte di ispirazione per tutti noi.

Oltre dai politici ci sono stati molti contributi da scienziati. Bello vedere che c’è tanta attenzione anche da questo punto di vista per la politica di animali. È importante – e rafforza – che vi è una interazione tra la teoria e la pratica di questo movimento di emancipazione. Il fondatore del movimento per i diritti degli animali, il filosofo americano Tom Regan ha tenuto una conferenza molto interessante. Ha trovato straordinario di essere ad un incontro dove molte persone erano riunite che traducono i diritti degli animali nella pratica della politica. Tra queste, erano presente tre ricercatori del Centro per gli animali e giustizia sociale. Inoltre, tra gli altri, il professor Will Kymlicka, Maartje Janse e il professor Paul Cliteur hanno tenuto una conferenza. Il programma completa puoi vedere qui.

This week the Animal Politics Symposium: Theory and Practice was held in Istanbul. It were two inspiring days with lecturers and visitors from all over the world. The host country Turkey, Kosovo, Australia, Canada, the United States, France, Israel, Sweden, Serbia, Georgia, the United Kingdom, Morocco and Tunisia were among the countries represented at the symposium, which was organised by our own Animal Politics Foundation.

I found it enormously inspiring to meet so many people who are devoting heart and soul to giving animals a voice in politics. My colleagues of the parties for the animals in Turkey, Australia and Portugal held a lecture, like I did, on the role of their party in the political social-field in their home country. It’s interesting to see that there are so many resemblances. And it is great to notice that our Dutch party is a good example for animal protectors all over the world. Maneka Gandhi from India also gave a presentation. She is a prominent animal protector and was the first minister for Animal Welfare in India. A very special person and an inspiration to us all.

Apart from politicians there were also many contributions from scientists. It’s good to see that there is much attention for Animal Politics from the scientific corner. It’s important – and encouraging – that there is an interaction between the theory and practice of this emancipation movement. The founder of the animal rights movement, the American philosopher Tom Regan held a very fascinating lecture. He thought that it was great to be at a gathering where there were so many people who put animal rights into political practice. Three researchers of the Center for Animals and Social Justice also attended the symposium. And Professor Will Kymlicka, Maartje Janse and Professor Paul Cliteur were among the people who held a lecture. Have a look at the full programme here.
