Worldlog Semana 51 – 2013

Esta semana tuvo lugar el Simposio para la Política Animal: Teoría y Práctica, celebrada en Estambul. Fueron dos días inspiradores con oradores y visitantes de todo el mundo. Países que estaban presentes fueron entre otros el país anfitrión Turquía, Kosovo, Australia, Canadá, Estados Unidos, Francia, Israel, Suecia, Serbia, Georgia, el Reino Unido, Marruecos y Túnez.. El simposio fue organizado por nuestra Fundación para Política Animal.

Me pareció muy inspirador encontrarme con tantas personas que luchan con corazón y alma para dar a los animales una voz política. Mis colegas de partidos para los animales como Turquía, Australia y Portugal, igual que yo, dieron presentaciones sobre el papel de su partido en el campo socio-político en su país. Es interesante ver que hay muchas similitudes. Y genial ver que nuestro partido forma un ejemplo tan importante para los protectores de animales del mundo entero. Maneka Gandhi de la India también hizo una presentación. Ella es un conservacionista importante y fue el primer Ministro de Bienestar Animal de la India. Una persona especial y una inspiración para todos nosotros.

Además de los políticos había también muchos aportes por parte de los científicos. Es bueno notar que también por esa parte existe mucha atención para la Política Animal. Es importante y un refuerzo ver que hay un intercambio entre la teoría y la práctica por parte de ese movimiento emancipatorio. El fundador del movimiento de derechos de los animales, el filósofo norteamericano Tom Regan dio una conferencia muy inspiradora. Le resultaba especial estar presente en un encuentro donde se juntaron muchas personas que traducen los derechos para los animales hacia una práctica política. Estuvieron presentes entre otros tres investigadores del Centro para Animales y Justicia Social. Además el profesor Will Kymlicka, Maartje Janse y el profesor Paul Cliteur dieron una presentación. This week the Animal Politics Symposium: Theory and Practice was held in Istanbul. It were two inspiring days with lecturers and visitors from all over the world. The host country Turkey, Kosovo, Australia, Canada, the United States, France, Israel, Sweden, Serbia, Georgia, the United Kingdom, Morocco and Tunisia were among the countries represented at the symposium, which was organised by our own Animal Politics Foundation.

I found it enormously inspiring to meet so many people who are devoting heart and soul to giving animals a voice in politics. My colleagues of the parties for the animals in Turkey, Australia and Portugal held a lecture, like I did, on the role of their party in the political social-field in their home country. It’s interesting to see that there are so many resemblances. And it is great to notice that our Dutch party is a good example for animal protectors all over the world. Maneka Gandhi from India also gave a presentation. She is a prominent animal protector and was the first minister for Animal Welfare in India. A very special person and an inspiration to us all.

Apart from politicians there were also many contributions from scientists. It’s good to see that there is much attention for Animal Politics from the scientific corner. It’s important – and encouraging – that there is an interaction between the theory and practice of this emancipation movement. The founder of the animal rights movement, the American philosopher Tom Regan held a very fascinating lecture. He thought that it was great to be at a gathering where there were so many people who put animal rights into political practice. Three researchers of the Center for Animals and Social Justice also attended the symposium. And Professor Will Kymlicka, Maartje Janse and Professor Paul Cliteur were among the people who held a lecture. Have a look at the full programme here.
