Grande notizia! La nostra partita sorella portoghese PAN ha vinto diversi seggi nelle elezioni locali in Portogallo. In alcuni comuni, il Partito per gli Animali portoghese è maggiori dei partiti di governo! Avevo già fatto un film di supporto per il PAN. Non l’ha avete ancora visto questo? Guardate lo qui.
Tra le altre PAN è riuscito a ottenere un seggio a Lisbona. Ho congratulato il leader del partito Miguel Santos con il suo seggio. Per i lettori portoghesi del mio Worldlog qui si può trovare di più sui risultati.

Inoltre, De Haas in de Marathon sarà proiettato il 9 novembre al festival STEPS in Ucraina e il 30 novembre al Mostra Festival in Brasile. Speriamo che seguiranno tanti altri paesi!
Venerdì scorso era la giornata dell’animale. I nostri membri hanno chiesto l’attenzione in tutto il paese per (non comprare) pelliccia attraverso la distribuzione per strada di volantini con informazioni sulla pelliccia. La pelliccia è un prodotto di moda inutile e crudele, che dovrebbe essere, per quanto ci riguarda, vietato ieri, piuttosto che oggi. Sono orgoglioso dei nostri membri che in questo giorno dell’animale sono andati nelle strade per ispirare altre persone.
Spero che il giorno dell’animale è stato per molti una buona occasione per oltre coccolare i loro animali domestici, soffermarsi su ciò che è nel loro piatto. Sarebbe bello se il giorno dell’animale diventasse una giornata non-mangio-animale. Sempre più studi dimostrano, inoltre, che con un po’ di buona volontà potremmo sfamare 10 miliardi di persone, ma per fare ciò non dovremmo più mangiare carne.
In Israele, il rabbino Dov Lipman ha fatto un appello per un lunedì senza carne alla Knesset (il parlamento israeliano). Buon inizio!
Questa settimana siamo stati impegnati per convincere il sottosegretario dell’agricoltura Dijksma e il resto del parlamento di affrontare seriamente il surplus letame nei Paesi Bassi. Sfortunatamente Dijksma Segretario non affronta il problema alla fonte, ma lei sceglie di far crescere il numero del bestiame ulteriormente.
I Paesi Bassi detengono il maggior numero di animali per superficie del mondo e quindi ha un enorme surplus di letame. I Paesi bassi producono annualmente 71.000.000 chili di letame, 4.000 chili per ogni olandese. Il terreno agricolo non può gestire cosi tanto letame, causando infiltrazioni di sostanze inquinanti nelle acque sotterranee. Concime arriva anche nell’acqua di superficie, che è molto dannosa per l’ambiente e la nostra salute. Inoltre, gli animali si devono stare durante tutto l’anno nelle stalle per poter gestire questa enorme quantità di letami in grandi impianti.
Noi sosteniamo un approccio alla fonte, vale a dire una riduzione significativa del numero di animali nella produzione zootecnica e la promozione dell’agricoltura terrestre con gli animali al pascolo. La mia collega Esther ha presentato una serie di mozioni che fanno un appello in tale senso. Ancora non sono stati votati, perciò seguirà aggiornamento.

Great news! PAN, our Portuguese sister party has won several seats in Portugal’s local elections. In some municipalities, the Portuguese Party for the Animals is bigger than the government party! I made a support film for PAN. Haven’t seen it yet? Watch it here.

Last Friday was World Animal Day. Our active members worked all over the country to raise awareness about abstaining from fur by handing out flyers with information about fur. Fur is an unnecessary and cruel fashion item, and as far as we are concerned it can’t be banned soon enough! I’m proud of our members who hit the streets on World Animal Day to inspire other people.
World Animal Day was hopefully a good opportunity to not only spoil their pets, but to stop and think about what’s on their plates. It would be great if World Animal Day became World Eat No Animals Day. Increasing studies show that with a little good will, we could feed 10 billion people, but we’d have to not eat meat.
In Israel, Rabbi Dov Lipman argued for a meatless Monday in the Knesset – Israel’s parliament. It’s a good start!
We’ve been busy this week convincing Ms Dijksma – State Secretary of Agriculture and the rest of the House to finally tackle the Netherlands’ manure surplus. Unfortunately, Ms Dijksma isn’t tackling the problem at the source, but is rather allowing the livestock herd to grow.
The Netherlands keeps the most animals per capita in the world, and therefore has a huge surplus of manure. Every year, the Netherlands produces 71 million kilos of manure, 4,000 kilos for every Dutch citizen. Our arable land cannot process so much manure, it leeches harmful substances into the groundwater. Manure also ends up in the surface water, which is incredibly harmful to nature and our health. Further more, animals have to be kept the whole year through in the stall in order to process the manure in large plants.
We want to tackle the problem at the source by drastically reducing the number animals and stimulating ground-based agriculture with animals out in the pastures. My colleague Esther has lodged a number of motions to this end. They’ve not gone to the vote, so it’s to be continued.
