Worldlog Settimana 26 – 2012

Il Senato ha respinto la settimana scorsa il disegno di legge per vietare la macellazione rituale senza l’utilizzo di anestetici. Nel Senato assieme ai partiti cristiani anche i senatori di VVD, PvdA e D66 hanno votato contro il disegno di legge. Inoltre anche 3 dei 5 senatori di Groenlinks (Verde sinistra) hanno votato contro.

Mi sento molto incoraggiato dall’enorme flusso di dichiarazioni di sostegno che dopo la votazione è arrivato da noi. Religione non può essere una carta bianca per gravi, inutili ed evitabili sofferenze per gli animali. Dopo le elezioni proporrò un nuovo disegno di legge, in cui teniamo conto delle obiezioni del Senato, ma che comunque pone fine alla macellazione senza anestetici. Ma prima le elezioni!

Torneremmo più forti dopo le elezioni e cercheremmo comunque di nuovo una maggioranza per la nostra proposta. È quindi importantissimo che il dibattito pubblico sulla macellazione senza l’uso di anestetici proceda in pieno vigore.

Il titolo del programma è: “Mantieni i tuoi ideali, non farteli cancellare”. Dal nuovo programma elettorale esprime l’ambizione di rendere noto a un pubblico più ampio che noi siamo i più verdi e abbiamo l’agenda più riformista.

Last week the senate rejected the legislative bill seeking to ban the ritual slaughter of animals without prior stunning. In addition to the Christian parties, the senators of the VVD, PvdA and D66 also voted against the bill. Furthermore, three of the five GroenLinks senators rejected the bill.

I feel extremely encouraged by the many messages of support that have arrived since the vote. Religion must never be an excuse for serious, unnecessary and avoidable suffering of animals. I intend to submit a new draft bill after the elections which, while taking account of the objections voiced in the senate, will seek to put an end to the slaughter of animals without prior stunning. But first the elections!

Following the elections, we will return to the House of Representatives stronger than ever and we will again attempt to get a majority to support our proposal. It is therefore extremely important that the debate going on in the country about the slaughter of animals without prior stunning continues unabated.

Sam Simon, the producer of The Simpsons, is donating a new ship to Sea Shepherd to help the organization in its fight against whaling. Wonderful news!
