Worldlog Settimana 22 – 2013

La Gestione delle Foreste Statale ci ha concesso i 100.000 m2 di natura; abbiamo vinto l’asta. Siamo il primo partito nella storia che ha comprato una parte dei Paesi Bassi per proteggerla contra una malgestione statale! Potete leggere più dettagli sugli scorsi Worldlog miei.

Sabato scorso vi erano delle manifestazioni in tutto il mondo, chiamate March Against Monsanto. Anche nei Paesi Bassi sono state ben frequentate delle manifestazioni, tra l’altro ad Amsterdam e Wageningen. Molti dei nostri membri erano presenti. Monsanto è un monopolista nel settore dei semi e pesticidi geneticamente manipolati. Già da anni ci esprimiamo contrari ad aziende come Monsanto e quindi abbiamo supportato questa March Against Monsanto!

La manipolazione genetica delle piante e dei semi è una cruda interruzione della maniera in cui normalmente gli organismi si riproducono. Non solo danneggia l’integrità delle piante, ma crea anche un potenziale rischio per la loro sopravvivenza e per l’ecosistema. Le piante geneticamente manipolate possono sostituire altre razze naturali e quindi sbilanciare l’ecosistema. Inoltre, l’utilizzo dei cibi gentec è accompagnato da un importante utilizzo di veleno e concime e stimola la deforestazione. Si è anche visto che le multinazionali come Monsanto, che commercializzano i prodotti gentec, abusano il loro potere nei confronti dei contadini.

Vogliamo preventivamente una fine alla concessione dei cibi gentec per l’allevamento e l’importo in Europa, e vogliamo prevenire che crescano nei Paesi Bassi!

La settimana scorsa ho fatto delle domande alla Camera su un nuovo programma televisivo che dimostra che dei serpenti vengono buttati in acqua freddissima. E’ chiaramente visibile che i serpenti sono stressati. E’ preoccupante che la gente scelga per i metodi barbari, solo per far guardare più gente ai loro programmi. Gli animali devono essere trattati con sentimento e rispetto, come degli esseri vivi con una coscienza. Per fortuna l’Autorità Olandese degli Alimentari (NVWA) ha aperto un’indagine penale sull’abuso degli animali nel programma televisivo!

La settimana scorsa è uscito un report di un ente di ricerca olandese. Questo ha dimostrato che l’allevamento del bestiame intensivo non rispetta le normative sul benessere degli animali, en masse. Il report fa anche vedere chiaramente che la bio-industria nel nostro paese è una grande minaccia per la natura e per la biodiversità. La bio-industria non è sostenibile, e non lo diventerà mai. Le poche normative nel settore non vengono rispettate. Oltre alla vulnerabile natura non c’è semplicemente spazio per tener milioni di animali. Dovremo avere meno animali, il governo deve prendersi la responsabilità di controllare la bio-industria.

Soprattutto le poche regole che esistono nel nostro paese per il benessere delle 44.500.000 galline, non vengono rispettate per niente. Più della metà degli allevatori non rispetta le regole continuamente. Ma questo succede anche nel settore suino e nel settore dei vitelli. Il segretario Dijksma dell’Agricoltura deve fare qualcosa ora!

Un bel messaggio che è rimasto nel caos che il tornado ha lasciato ad Oklahoma. E anche il Big Picture mostra il potere distruggente dei tornado.

BAM! Le donne del Saudi Arabia fanno la vendetta. Brave!

The National Forest Service awarded us almost 100,000 m2 of natural reserve as we came together to be the highest bidder. We are the first party in history to have bought a piece of the Netherlands to protect it against failing government policy! Read more about this act in my previous Worldlogs.

Last Saturday the whole world held protests under the name ‘March Against Monsanto’. The Netherlands also held popular protests in such places as Amsterdam and Wageningen. Many of our members were there. Monsanto monopolises the field of genetically manipulated seeds and pesticides. We have been fighting against businesses like Monsanto for years and so we supported the March Against Monsanto with everything we have!

Genetically manipulating plants and seeds is a dramatic break from the way organisms usually reproduce. It affects not only the plants’ integrity, it could also potentially endanger their continued existence and the ecosystem. Genetically manipulated plants can push out their natural counterparts and disrupt the ecosystem. Plus, growing genetically manipulated crops, coupled with using large amounts of agricultural poisons and artificial fertilisers, leads to mass deforestation. It also seems that multinationals like Monsanto that introduce these manipulated crops to the market are using their power to farmers’ expense.

We want to bring an end to growing genetically manipulated crops in Europe and to importing them into Europe, and we want to prevent the Netherlands from growing these crops!

Last week I asked more parliamentary questions about a new television programme in which snakes are thrown from a container with cold water. It is obvious that the snakes are under enormous stress. It is worrying to see people choose barbarism just to raise viewing figures. Animals must be treated with respect and care as they are living, sentient beings with feelings. Fortunately, the Dutch the Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) has meanwhile started a criminal investigation into animal cruelty on the show!

Last week saw a report by a Dutch research agency that says that intensive factory farming grossly infringes animal welfare laws. Furthermore, the report makes it painfully clear that the factory farming in this country endangers nature and biodiversity. The factory farming industry is not sustainable, and it can never be. The only rules with which this sector must comply are being ignored en masse. Nature is vulnerable so there is simply no room to keep millions of animals. The livestock herd needs to be shrunk by more than half, and the government must take control of monitoring the factory farming industry.

The very few rules that the Netherlands has surrounding the welfare of its 44,500,000 fattened chickens are also largely ignored. More than half of Dutch poultry holders consistently contravene the rules. But the worst of the infringements are found in pig and calf stalls. State Secretary of Agriculture Dijksma needs to take action now!
