Nella Camera il nostro partito è finalmente riuscito a realizzare una banca dati pubblica per le sprimentazioni con gli animali nei Paesi Bassi. Anche il commerciante di scimmie “Hartelust” che opera nella città di Tilburg deve pubblicare i dati degli animali che importa per le sperimentazioni con gli animali. In questo modo molte sperimentazioni inutili potranno essere prevenute!

Gli allevatori commerciali di animali per le sperimentazioni, come Hartelust, fin’ora non avevano l’obbligo di registrarsi ne di fornire dei report come invece sono le regole per gli altri enti per gli animali per le sperimentazioni. Abbiamo richiesto da tempo che gli allevatori e commercianti non siano più esclusi da queste regole. Inoltre, al momento non vi è alcuna registrazione centrale per gli animali per le sperimentazioni. Specialmente i risultati di sperimentazioni fallite spesso non vengono pubblicati. Così si perde l’opportunità di imparare da questi fallimenti e sperimentazioni vengono fatte doppiamente pe questa mancanza di informazioni. Grazie al Partito per gli Animali cambierà: il governo lavorerà per una banca dati pubblica con tutti i dati delle sperimentazioni. E’ quindi una buona notizia!

L’Unione Europea ha concordato che dal 2013 vi sarà un divieto totale per le sperimentazioni con animali per trucchi. Anche se l’industria dei trucchi sa da anni che questo divieto sia in arrivo, i produttori hanno appena richiesto di ritardarlo. La Camera ha accettato una nostra mozione che dice che i Paesi Bassi non debbano accettare un ritardo e chiede al governo di fare un programma entro il primo aprile 2012.
Questa settimana abbiamo ricevuto una email di ringraziamento del prottetore di delfini Erwin Vermeulen di Sea Shepherd, che è stato trovato innocente su tutti i punti dal giudice giapponese. Il Giappone quindi l’ha tenuto come prigioniero politico in condizioni pessime mentre era innocente. Il Ministro Verhagen era in Gipappone per parlare con Mitsubishi sul futuro di NedCar. Ha visto l’opportunità di parlare delle possibilità di esportare la carne di vitello e il pollo dai Paesi Bassi. Ma purtroppo non ha detto niente sull’ingiustizia che i giapponesi abbiano dimostrata nei confronti di Erwin Vermeulen.

L’Università di Wageningen ha nominato il Prof. Boom professore nell’ambiente dei sostituti della carne. Il primo Professore in questo ambito (chiamato “Peas”) nel mondo! La fondazione verrà da “crowdfunding”; piccoli contributi da persone che credono nello sviluppo di sostanze che possano sostituire la carne e che convincano i carnivori di mangiare le proteine vegetali. Al momento la metà del grano a livello mondiale viene mangiato dall’allevamento del bestiame, mentre potremmo alimentare 30 milliardi di persone utilizzando le proteine vegetali. Più che mai c’è bisogno del nostro partito: dappertutto le interesse degli animali vengono ignorate. Nel quotidiano olandese “Het Parool” è stato pubblicato un articolo interessante sulla macellazione degli elefanti in Africa. Fortunatamente la gente comincia a realizzare che la difesa dei “non-umani” è sempre più comune. Dal 10 al 15 aprile gli scienziati di tutto il mondo parleranno sul nuovo fenomeno dei partiti che difendono i diritti di animali, natura e ambiente, e il nostro partito sarà presentato con grande emfasi, essendo il primo Partito per gli Animali eletto nel parlamento nel mondo.

Infine presentiamo le immagini della “produzione” di carne suina nel Regno Unito. Solo le persone più coraggiose potranno resistere e guardare queste immagin. State attenti! Anja Hazekamp, che mi sostituisce nella Camera, ha fatto domanda nella Camera, per prevenire che la carne di questa provenienza barbara possa essere venduta nei negozi dei Paesi Bassi.

Our parliamentary group of the Lower House has finally managed to realise a public database for laboratory animal research in the Netherlands. Hartelust, a Tilburg-based company that trades in monkies must from now on publish their details on the animals it takes in and sells for the laboratory animal industry. This will prevent a lot of unnecessary animal testing!

Commercial breeders of and traders in laboratory animals such as Hartelust, have, up till now, never had to comply with the registration and reporting obligations imposed on other institutions that use laboratory animals. We've been insisting for quite a while on this exception for breeders and traders being lifted. Data on laboratory animal research is not registered in one central location, nor are the data of failed tests very often published. This means the researchers learn very little information from failed tests, and so laboratory animals are used twice unnecessarily. Thanks to the Party for the Animals, this is about to change: the government is going to work on a proper, accessible database that contains data about laboratory animals. That's great news!

The European Union has agreed that as of 2013, there will be a complete ban on using animals for testing cosmetics. Although the cosmetics industry has known for years of this up-and-coming ban, they are still pushing for a postponement. The Lower House accepted one of our motions that says the Netherlands may not agree to a postponement and that the government will call for a plan of attack to be readied for 1 April 2012.

This week we received a thank you email from dolphin champion Erwin Vermeulen from Sea Shepherd. The Japanese judge acquitted him of all charges. Japan therefore detained an innocent man under terrible conditions as a political prisoner. Minister Hagen was in Japan to talk to Mitsubishi (Mitsubishi are currently fishing all the Bluefin tuna) about the future of NedCar. He took the opportunity to discuss exporting Dutch veal and chicken, but had nothing to say about the injustice that Erwin Vermeulen has suffered by Japanese hand.

Wageningen University has appointed Professor Boom as a professor in the meat replacement field. He's the world's first Pea Professor! This chair is largely financed by crowd funding, small amounts donated by people who believe in developing new and improved meat replacement products to convince meat eaters to make the switch to plant proteins. Cattle farming currently eats up half of the world's grain reserves, whereas we could feed 30 billion people with plant proteins grown on current amounts of agricultural ground. Our party is needed now more than ever; everywhere you look, animals' interests are treated with disregard. Dutch newspaper 'Het Parool' recently published a gripping article about elephant slaughter in Africa. Happily, the idea that people are standing up for 'non-humans’ is on the rise. Scientists from the world over will Antwerp from 10 to 15 April about this new phenomenon of political parties that focus on animal, natural and environmental issues. Our party will be there to headline as the first Party for the Animals in history to be elected to parliament.

And finally images of 'producing' pork in the UK. It's only for those with strong stomachs. My replacement in the House, Anja Hazekamp, has once again asked parliamentary questions to try and prevent this meat of barbaric origin from being sold in Dutch stores.
