Worldlog Settimana 03 – 2013

L’anno nuovo è sempre sotto l’insegna dei buoni propositi. I miei propositi sono chiari: anche quest’anno ci impegneremmo per animali, natura e l’ambiente! Tuttavia vorremmo però che i botti attorno a capodanno al più presto appartengano al passato. A dicembre abbiamo di nuovo chiesto di nuovo un divieto per la vendita di fuochi d’artificio per i consumatori. Ogni anno centinaia di persone si ferisce con i fuochi d’artificio, tra cui molti bambini. I botti provocano causa paura e stress a milioni di animali e danneggia l’ambiente. È ora di porre fine a questa prassi.

La stragrande maggioranza del Parlamento non ha alcun problema con il fatto che il governo non rispetta gli obblighi internazionali in materia di cambiamento climatico. Questo risulta dalla votazione sulla mozione prima della pausa natalizia. Nella mozione ho chiesto al governo di porre in atto misure che serviranno per raggiungere gli obiettivi climatici per i quali i Paesi Bassi si sono impegnati nel contesto dell’accordo sul clima dell’ONU. I Paesi bassi hanno ufficialmente riconosciuto che la terra non può riscaldarsi di più di 2 gradi. Inoltre, il governo ha riconosciuto e convenuto che L’Olanda avrebbe preso le misure per evitare un ulteriore riscaldamento. Ciò significa tra l’altro che le emissioni di gas serra dei Paesi Bassi nel 2020 devono essere ridotto del 40 percento rispetto al 1990.

È imbarazzante vedere che I Paesi Bassi si rifiutano di assumersi la loro responsabilità. Siamo uno dei più grandi inquinatori del mondo, lo dobbiamo smettere di riscaldare la terra ulteriormente. Solo un cambiamento radicale nella politica offre la prospettiva di un futuro più sostenibile.

La “carne” che è prodotto dalla carne non proprio commestibile di una mucca è definita da Oliver come “melma rosa”. Il suo lavoro di metter la “melma rosa” sotto i riflettori ha già dato i suoi frutti: Jamie Oliver è accusato per una sommossa intorno alla “melma rosa”.

E le persone del seguente filmato hanno avuto tanta fortuna durante il loro viaggio per “vedere i delfini”: hanno visto il fenomeno raro “super-pod” nel quale un grande gruppo di delfini viaggia assieme.

Non voglio che vi perdiate questo video di animazione! In modo molto accattivante viene mostrato quali siano i problemi sulla terra in tre minuti.

Nei Paesi bassi cresce la percentuale dei vegetariani e le persone che ogni tanto rinuncino al piatto di carne. Purtroppo in India è il contrario. Il crescente gruppo della classe media sta cambiando il suo stile di vita vegetariana per un menu a base di carne. Questo fa aumenta la pressione sull’ambiente, le nostre materie prime, il benessere degli animali e la biodiversità sempre di più. Ci dovrà essere un approccio globale del problema alimentare. Una delle soluzioni si trova nell’Unione Europea: il bilancio agricola comune dell’Unione Europea nei prossimi anni dovrebbe essere utilizzato per aiutare gli agricoltori a passare all’agricoltura biologica.

Questa settimana riprenderanno le riunioni nella Parlamento. Dobbiamo affrontare il bilancio del ministero degli Affari Economici nella prossima settimana. Gli Affari Economici includono i dossier che hanno a che fare con gli allevamenti intensivi, il benessere degli animali e la natura. Allora abbiamo abbastanza lavoro da fare!

The new year is always a time for resolutions. My own new year’s resolution is clear: continue the fight for animals, nature and the environment! At the same time, we would like to see an end to all the banging and explosions around the new year’s celebrations. In December we again argued for a ban on consumer fireworks. Each year hundreds of people, including many children, are injured by fireworks. Moreover, the racket causes stress to millions of animals and fireworks are bad for the environment. It is high time to put a stop to the practice.

The vast majority in Dutch members of parliament seem to have no trouble whatsoever with the fact that the Dutch government is failing to meet its international climate obligations. This sad fact was made clear during the vote on my motion before the parliamentary recess. In the motion, I asked the government to take the measures necessary for the Netherlands to meet its climate objectives under the UN Climate Treaty to which it is a signatory. The Netherlands has officially stated that the earth must not be allowed to warm any more that two degrees. Moreover, the government has promised that the Netherlands would take measures necessary to prevent any further warming of the planet. This means that Dutch emissions of greenhouse gases must be reduced by 40 percent in 2020 relative to 1990.

It is shameful that the Netherlands refuses to take its responsibility. We are among the world’s worst polluters and we must immediately end the continued warming up of the planet. Only a radical change of policy offers the perspective of a more sustainable future.

The percentage of people in the Netherlands that are vegetarians or forego meat on a regular basis is growing. Unfortunately the opposite trend can be observed in India. The growing middle class in India is increasingly exchanging its vegetarian lifestyle for a meat-filled menu. This trend will increase the pressure on the climate, our natural resources, nature, animal welfare and biodiversity. We need to tackle the food problem as a planet. One of the solutions can be offered by the European Union: over the next few years, the UN agriculture budget must be used to help farmers switch to biological agriculture.

Parliament is back in session. On the agenda for next week is the discussion of the budget of the Ministry of Economic Affairs. Economic Affairs includes all the portfolios dealing with intensive livestock raising, animal welfare and nature. So I will be pretty busy as you can imagine!
