Worldlog Settimana 03 – 2009

I migliori auguri a tutti ancora per il 2009! Ho appena finito di dare l'ultima mano al mio nuovo testo “La ragione degli animali, la felicità dell’uomo”. Nel libro descrivo la connessione tra la crisi creditizia, la crisi climatologica, la crisi alimentare, la crisi dell' acqua dolce, la crisi valutaria e la crisi della biodiversità. Queste crisi mostrano rassomiglianze importanti, sono tutte causate dall’avidità umana e dal pensare a breve termine. Nessuna delle crisi sarebbe potuta nascere se non ci fosse stato l’uomo. L’uomo si distingue dagli animali a causa della sua intelligenza e della sua possibilità di fare scelte etico morali, ma utilizza questa distinzione a suo svantaggio. “La ragione degli animali, la felicità dell’uomo” verrà pubblicato a marzo nell’ambito della settimana dei libri, una settimana per la promozione della letteratura olandese con il tema ‘tjielp tjielp’.

Dalle ultime stime risulta un buon andamento del partito. Il numero d’iscritti al Partito per gli Animali è cresciuto sostanzialmente l’ultimo anno. Un incremento del 15 percento e adesso abbiamo 8012 iscitti. Dati in controtendenza con gli altri partiti del governo in Olanda che, invece, hanno perso iscritti. Gli altri partiti di opposizione hanno anche acquisito iscritti. In totale il numero d’ iscritti a un partito politico è diminuito un pochino quest’ anno. Circa il 2,5 percento dei dodici milioni di aventi diritto di voto in Olanda adesso è iscritto ad un partito politico.

L'anno passato abbiamo di nuovo posto molti quesiti, ciò risulta dal resoconto annuale del presidente della Camera Gerdi Verbeet, quesiti che abbracciano diverse argomentazioni. Sempre di più a quanto pare, visto che il ministro dell'Agricoltura Verburg ha scelto di seguire una linea dura. Nel suo discorso di capodanno ha detto che vuole “tirare fuori dall’angolo dei tabù” la manipolazione (il ministro preferisce naturalmente la parola modificazione) genetica. Questo significa che il ministro, diversamente dalla Camera, vuole che prodotti manipolati geneticamente come la soia e i semi di rapa possano entrare nel nostro paese senza reticenze.

Altri punti di vista rimarchevoli del ministro Verburg: in risposta ad alcune domande alla Camera che ho posto io sul modo in cui vengono uccisi i piccioni di città, il ministro dice che è consentito di torcere il collo ai piccioni o di tirare la testa dal tronco mentre l’animale è ancora vivo.

Beh, una visione completamente nuova sull’economato la chiameremo…E il ministro non vede nessun rapporto tra il tenere piccioni viaggiatori e l’aumento del numero di piccioni di città selvatici. Ho delle domande supplementari in questioni che porrò presto.

Poi il ministro si è lasciata sfuggire di bocca che lei non è “il ministro degli animali domestici”, una espressione con la quale evidentemente intende segnalare che del benessere degli animali domestici le importa poco, ma che desidera occuparsi soprattutto del retroscena economico degli animali di produzione. Una dichiarazione di guerra diretta a ognuno che ha nel cuore gli animali domestici.

Best wishes to everybody in 2009! I've just put the finishing touches on my latest book “The Equality of Animals, the Happiness of People”. In my book I describe the correlation between the credit crisis, climate crisis, food crisis, fresh water crisis, value crisis and the bio diversity crisis. These crises show significant similarities, in that they were caused by human greed and sort-term thinking. None of the crises could have occurred in the animal world without the presence of humans. Humans differentiate themselves from animals with higher intelligence and the ability to make moral, ethical decisions, but turns this differentiation to its disadvantage. “The Equality of Animals, the Happiness of People” will appear in March in the Book Week framework. It's a week designed to promote Dutch literature, and its theme will be “Tweet, Tweet”.

Recent figures show that the party is doing well because The Party for the Animals has gained a lot of members this past year. We have 15% more members now for a total of 8012. This is opposite to the ruling political parties in the Netherlands; they are losing members. The other opposition parties, except for GroenLinks, are also gaining members. The total number of people who joined a political party this year is down. Approximately 2.5% of the 12 million people eligible to vote in the Netherlands is now a member of a party.

We asked a lot of questions last year, if we look at Gerdi Verbeet's annual report. We will continue to ask even more because Minister of Agriculture Verberg is on a collision course. In her new year's address she said that she would like to “remove the taboo' on genetic manipulation (except she used the word “modification” because it sounds less scary). This means that the Minister, against the House's wishes, wants to allow free entry of products such as soya and rape seed into our country.

Some more of Minister Verberg's unusual stand points: answering questions to the House that I posed about the way in which city pigeons were killed, the Minister said that it is permitted to twist the pigeons head from its body, while the animal is still alive.

Let's just say this is a whole new look at the issue of stewardship… and the Minister does not see a single connection between the increase in keeping pigeons and the increase of city pigeons running wild. I still have a few more questions that I will ask as soon as possible.

Then the Minister let slip that she is not the “Minister for house pets”, by this she obviously wants to show her lack of interest in the wellbeing of house pets, but would rather chiefly busy herself with the economic background of production animals. This is a direct declaration of war to anyone who holds their house pet dear.
