Partito per il Benessere degli Animali vince prima rappresentanza politica britannica
Il Partito per il Benessere degli Animali “The Animal Welfare Party” (AWP) ha ottenuto la sua prima rappresentanza politica nel Regno Unito la settimana scorsa, dopo l’uscita di una politica dal partito verde. Jane Smith, rappresentante del governo nel commune di Alsager nello Cheshire, ha fatto storia la settimana scorsa, annunciando la sua decisione di cambiare da un partito politico all’altro. Smith ha lavorato nel suo ruolo politico dal 2015.
Il nuovo rappresentante nell’AWP disse in una communicazione ufficiale: “Ho preso questa decisione poiche’ trovo importante che iniziamo a riconoscere e gestire le ingiustizie inerenti alle nostre autorita’ che focalizzano solo sull’umano. Sebbene il passo che io faccio oggi, possa sembrare piccolo, lo trovo di grande importanza simbolica. Condividiamo il nostro mondo e le nostre risorse naturali con tante alter specie, ed e’ solo giusto che questi altri animali ed i loro habitat siano rappresentati bene e che siano considerazioni comprese nelle nostre decisioni.”

Il partito, eretto dieci anni fa, fu rappresentato in tre zone di Londra nelle elezioni nazionali di quest’anno. Il partito partecipo’ anche per la prima volta quest’anno nel parlamento scozzese e l’Irlanda del Nord.
Vanessa Hudson, leader del partito AWP , disse: “Il Regno Unito ha una buona storia nell’ambiente del benessere degli animali. E’ or ache gli animali vengano rappresentati nelle nostre autorita’. Solo in questo modo potranno essere tutelati i loro diritti ed interesse. Con il passo di Jane, l’AWP prende i suoi primi passi verso l’associazione con i nostril partiti nei Paesi Bassi, la Germania, il Portogallo e l’Australia, che hanno gia’ raggiunto cio’ per gli animali.”
L’AWP e’ fondato sul Partito per gli Animali olandese, che tiene cinque seggi nella Camera olandese, due seggi nel Senato ed un seggio nel Parlamento Europeo.

The Animal Welfare Party (AWP) got its first political representative in the UK last week after a town councillor defected from the Green Party. Jane Smith, who is on Alsager Town Council, in Cheshire, made history last week after announcing her decision to switch political parties. Smith has served on the council since 2015.
The new AWP representative said in a statement: “I have made this decision because I believe it is important that we begin to acknowledge and address the inherent unfairness of our human-centric decision making bodies. Although the step I take today may appear small, I believe it is of huge symbolic significance. We share our world and our natural resources with so many other species, and it is only right and fair that those other animals and their habitats are properly represented and considered in our decision making.”

The party, established 10 years ago, contested three London constituencies in this year’s General Election. The party also contested the Scottish Parliament and Northern Ireland Assembly elections for the first time in the same year.
Vanessa Hudson, AWP party leader, said: “The UK has a proud history of thought leadership in animal welfare. It is high time animals had dedicated representatives in our decision making bodies. Only that way can their needs and interests begin to be properly protected. With Jane’s step, AWP takes its first steps to joining our sister parties in the Netherlands, Germany, Portugal and Australia who have already achieved that for animals.”
The AWP is based on the Dutch ‘Party for the Animals’ Partij voor de Dieren (PvdD), which holds five seats in the Dutch House of Representatives, two in the Dutch Senate and one in the European Parliament.
