Worldlog Semana 21 – 2014
Queremos que se prohíba la cría de camellos y dromedarios! Por lo tanto hice preguntas parlamentarias en esta semana. Animales en granjas para camellos sufren de un estrés severo, en parte también porque los recién nacidos son separados de la madre inmediatamente después del nacimiento. A los animales también se ordeñan en forma mecánica, lo que lleva a serios problemas físicos.
Además es peligroso para la salud pública tener camellos y dromedarios ya que a través de la leche de camellos el virus peligroso MERS puede ser transmitido. Por esto debe haber una investigación sobre el virus MERS y sus consecuencias de ello para las exportaciones holandesas y los posibles riesgos de contaminación a otros animales y a los seres humanos.
La semana pasada estuve en Groningen con nuestro camión especial ganadero especialmente creado para la gira de campaña para las elecciones Europeas. Fue un día exitoso! Escuché muchas reacciones positivas. Ya conté en mi Worldlog de semana pasada que en nuestro camión ganadero se ven entre otras cosas imágenes del transporte real de animales reales para concientizar a la gente del sufrimiento que causamos a los animales solo por el motivo de poder masacrar a los animales por algunos centavos menos.
Más noticias acerca de las transportaciones de animales. Por fin Secretario del Estado Dijksma va a ocuparse de los sistemas GPS en todos los camiones Europeos. Queremos que a los transportistas que no cumplan con las reglas se les sancionen y que se les quiten sus medios de transporte. Un GPS obligatorio lo hace posible!
Nos parece muy importante que las personas con leves discapacidades de aprendizaje puedan tomar dus decisiones meditadas. Por esto hemos publicado un programa electoral en un lenguaje sencillo. En cada elección miles de pases de votantes con una discapacidad intelectual desaparecen en la papelera, porque los familiares o acompañantes no saben cómo tratar esto. Eso es lamentable, ya que muchas personas con una discapacidad intelectual quieren que su opinión se convierta en una opción política!

Mi colega Esther Ouwehand conoció la semana pasada al Dalai Lama. Yo ya lo había conocido anteriormente durante una visita a nuestro país en 2009. En esa ocasión, el líder espiritual dijo que él votaría por nuestro partido si él fuera holandés 🙂 Él dijo que era alentador ver que hay grupos que defienden los derechos de los animales.
En la entrevista con los parlamentarios, el Dalai Lama hablo entre otras cosas, de los efectos del cambio climático en el pueblo tibetano. Según él los políticos holandeses pueden contribuir en la lucha enviando investigadores climáticos a Tíbet. Nosotros apoyamos la lucha del Dalai Lama por un Tíbet independiente!
Por fin el gobierno holandés va a llamar la atención a las autoridades rumanas acerca de su política con los perros callejeros. Una nueva ley está dando lugar actualmente a la captura masiva y la matanza de perros callejeros. A menudo hemos hecho preguntas habiendo hablado dos veces con el embajador de Rumania de esta nueva ley que permite que se asesinen a los perros callejeros después de haber pasado dos semanas en un refugio si no hay suficiente espacio allí para mantener a los perros, o cuando faltan los recursos para una alimentación adecuada o una atención médica.
En marzo pasado, una clínica de perros en Rumania fue saqueada por cazadores de recompensas, esperando conseguir una indemnización por parte del gobierno. Tal actitud cruel hacia los animales callejeros no es aceptada para un país miembro de la Unión Europea. Un método efectivo probado para hacer frente a los animales callejeros es capturarlos, esterilizarlos y volver a colocarlos en su lugar. Espero que el Secretario de Estado insista con las autoridades rumanas.

We want a ban on keeping camels and dromedaries! I therefore asked Parliamentary questions about that last week. Animals on camel farms suffer from severe stress, one of the reasons being that the young are taken away from their mothers immediately after birth. Also, mother animals are milked by machines, which leads to severe physical problems.
In addition, holding camels and dromedaries is dangerous to public health, as the perilous MERS virus can be transferred via camel milk. An investigation will therefore have to be conducted into the MERS virus and its consequences on Dutch export and any risks of infection for other species or humans.
Last week, I was in Groningen with our converted cattle truck for the European campaign tour. It was a successful day! I heard loads of assenting responses. In last week’s Worldlog, I already told you that images or real animal transports can be seen in our cattle truck to make people aware of the suffering we inflict on animals just because slaughtering is a few cents cheaper elsewhere.
More news on cattle transports. State Secretary Dijksma will (at last) commit herself to GPS systems in all European cattle trucks. We want that cattle transporters who do not stick to the rules are fined and their trucks are put on a chain. Obligatory GPS will make that possible!
Since we find it very important that citizens who are slightly mentally challenged can also make an informed choice, we have published an election programme in simple wording. With every election, thousands of voting passes of voters who are mentally challenged are thrown in the dustbin, because family members or supervisors do not know how to best deal with this. That is a pity, because many people who are mentally challenged would absolutely like to translate their opinion into a political choice!

My colleague Esther Ouwehand met with the Dalai Lama last week. I met him during an earlier visit to our country, in 2009. On that occasion, the spiritual leader said he would vote on a party for animals if he were Dutch 🙂 He said he found it encouraging that groups are standing up for the rights of animals.
In this talk with MPs, the Dalai Lama pointed out the consequences of climate change for the Tibetan people. According to him, Dutch politicians can contribute to the Tibetan battle by sending climate researchers to Tibet. We support the battle of the Dalai Lama for an independent Tibet!
At last, the Dutch government is going to appeal to the Romanian authorities with regard to the stray dog policy in Romania. A new Act is currently leading to the massive capture and killing of stray dogs. We have asked questions more often and spoke with the ambassador of Romania twice about this new Act, which allows stray dogs to be killed after they stayed in a shelter for 14 days if the shelter does not have enough room to keep the dogs, or if there are not enough funds for sufficient food or medical care.
In March, a Romanian dog clinic was looted by premium hunters hoping to receive rewards from the government. Such a cruel attitude towards stray dogs is intolerable in a Member State of the European Union. A proven effective method for dealing with stray dogs is to capture the animals, sterilise them and place them back again. I therefore expect the State Secretary to insist upon that with the Romanian authorities.
