Worldlog Semana 15 – 2008

Semana passada houve na Holanda muita agitação ao redor dos matadouros do norte da Holanda onde foram constatados sérios problemas, o qual não está sendo bem fiscalizado pelos fiscalizadores do governo. O programa de comsumidor Radar fez uma denúncia sobre este fato e eu também fui entrevistada pelo programa de atualidades 1vandaag. Claro que devido a lingua na matéria será difícil a alguns de vocês entenderem o que está sendo ditto, mas as imagens do programa Radar dizem por si mesma.

O matadouro a respeito parou nesse momento suas atividades de matança de animais pois ninguém mais tem coragem de entregar animais lá desde que o matadouro em questão ficou no foco de todos.

Criadores de gado reagiram resignados em diversos foruns da internet. Isto parece claro que também para eles este tipo de inconveniente é reconhecido e não pode ser tolerado.
Terça-feira passada o Partido para os animais teve um grande sucesso na Câmara. Nós conseguimos que o governo holandês faça perguntas à Comissão Européia para saber se a fiscalização holandesa está dentro da lei. Neste momento a avaliação está sendo realizada por uma empresa particular . Esta empresa está nas mãos do próprio setor da carne e está sendo administrada também por membros do Partido Cristão Democrático ( o ministro da agricultura em nosso país é também deste partido!).

Esta empresa de avaliação da carne tem muito lucro. Muito dinheiro de impostos é direcionado a essa empresa e a empresa ainda é favorecida sendo isenta de pagar os impostos empresariais. Todos podem entender claramente que não há lógica alguma que o matadouro avalie sua própria carne. Principalmente quando já se sabe que uma filial da empresa vende seguro contra a reprovação do gado a ser abatido.

É de maior interesse para a saúde do povo e dos animais que esta questão seja bem esclarecida. Também é ótimo que a maioria do parlamento holandês esteja apoiando o Partido para os animais no pedido de esclarecimento feito a União Européia.

Domingo passado terminamos as gravações para nosso filme climático Meat the Truth. Veja abaixo uma foto-sensação das gravações.

Os preparativos para a Première londrina estão em andamento para dia 19 de maio e a première de Nova Iorque em junho. Esta semana serão iniciadas apresentações em salas de filme e teatros holandeses, combinando depois das apresentações uma discussão sobre o tema do filme.

Last week there was much commotion in the Netherlands regarding a slaughterhouse in the northern part of the Netherlands. Terrible animal abuse was allegedly taking place, while supervisors appointed by the government did nothing about it. The consumer programme Radar did a report about it
and I was interviewed by the current events programme 1vandaag.
Of course, due to the language barrier, it may be difficult for most of you to follow the discussion, but the images in Radar speak for themselves.

This specific slaughterhouse has since halted its slaughtering activities because no one dares deliver them animals now that they have been at the centre of attention.

The farmers who keep livestock are reacting passively on the various Dutch internet forums. It seems obvious that this sort of abuse is all too familiar to them, and it cannot be tolerated.

Last Tuesday, the Party for the Animals scored in the House of Representatives. We managed to compel the Dutch government to request the European Commission to review the Dutch meat inspection system to see if it sufficiently meets European regulations. Currently, the inspections are performed by a commercial enterprise. This company is in the hands of the meat industry itself and is presided over by prominent members of the governing Christian Democrat party (the Minister of Agriculture in our country is from the same party!).

The meat inspection company turns a high profit. Meanwhile, they receive a great deal of tax monies and notably they are themselves exempt from paying corporate taxes. Anyone can see that it makes no sense for a butcher to be the inspector of his own meat. Especially when you know that a sister company offers insurance against the rejection of slaughter livestock. Conflicts of interest are just around the corner.

For the sake of public health and for the animals, it is extremely important that every stone be turned over in this case. It is great that the majority of the Dutch Parliament supports the Party for the Animals in our effort to lay the entire issue before the European Union.

All preparations are being made for the London première on the 19th of May and the New York première in June. In the coming weeks, the film will start showing in Dutch film houses and theatres, often followed by a discussion with the audience.
