Jovens do Partido para os Animais holandês solidários com a jovem ativista do clima sueca

Last week, students and members of PINK!, the Dutch Party for the Animals’ youth wing, were on school strike outside the Dutch parliament to protest against the majority of the Dutch parliament’s indifference to climate change. The students wanted to show their solidarity with Greta Thunberg, the Swedish schoolgirl who has become an international role model to young people around the world expressing their dissatisfaction with the current climate policies.

With this solidary strike, PINK! aims to stress the importance of an appropriate climate policy. PINK! hopes students from other countries will follow their example, until governments are willing to take the future of young people seriously. The solidary strike in The Hague was led by student Matt Kanters: “We have a generation of young people who feel their interests are not adequately represented in politics. The indifference of our governments to voiceless generations is a problem as universal and transboundary as that of climate change itself and must therefore be combated with the same passion.”

Swedish and Dutch students on school strike

During their strike outside the Dutch Parliament in The Hague, the students were even taught about climate change by their enthusiastic geography teacher. The Swedish and Dutch students are supported by the various sister parties of the Dutch Party for the Animals, including the Swedish Djurens Parti, Italian Partito Animalista, Belgian DierAnimal and British Animal Welfare Party.

Growing international opposition
Around the world, more and more young people as well as grown-ups take it upon themselves to stimulate their governments to act against climate change. In various parts of the United States, children have won lawsuits against their government who, according to the children, is conserving the status quo despite the consequences for the planet and for younger generations. In Colombia young people have won a lawsuit claiming that deforestation and rising temperatures are violating their constitutional rights to healthy food and water and a healthy environment. In Pakistan, a seven-year-old stood up to her government, accusing it of not doing enough to preserve the planet for her generation.

Na semana passada alunos e membros de PINK!, a organização juvenil do Partido para os Animais holandês, estiveram em greve em frente ao edifício da Câmara Baixa para protestar contra a indiferença da maioria no Parlamento holandês com relação a mudança do clima. Os alunos fizeram isto em solidariedade com Greta Thunberg, a aluna sueca que se tornou um exemplo internacional para jovens que querem expressar seu descontentamento com a atual política do clima.

Com a greve de solidariedade PINK! quer realçar a importância de uma política do clima adequada. PINK! espera que o protesto seja continuado por alunos em outros países, até que o governo se disponha a levar o futuro dos jovens a sério. A greve de solidariedade na Haia foi liderada pelo aluno Matt Kanters: “Existe uma geração de jovens que acha que a política não defende suficientemente seus interesses. O desinteresse de nossos governos com relação às gerações sem voz é tão universal e transfronteiriço quanto o problema da mudança do clima e portanto também precisa ser combatido.”

Alunos em greve na Suécia e na Holanda

Durante a greve em frente a Câmara Baixa os alunos até receberam aulas sobre a mudança do clima de um professor de geografia entusiasta. Os alunos suecos e holandeses também receberam apoio dos diversos partidos irmãos do Partido para os Animais holandês, entre os quais o Djurens parti da Suécia, o Partito Animalista da Itália, o DierAnimal da Bélgica e o Animal Welfare Party da Grã Bretanha.

A resistência cresce internacionalmente
Cada vez mais frequentemente jovens e adultos no mundo inteiro se levantam para induzir seus governos a agir para o clima. Em diversas regiões dos Estados Unidos crianças vencem ações judiciais contra seus governos que conforme os jovens mantêm o status quo a custa do planeta e das gerações mais jovens. Na Colombia jovens venceram um caso judiciário onde reivindicaram seus direitos constitucionais a alimentação, ambiente e água saudáveis (entre outros) cujos direitos são violados pelos desflorestamentos e temperaturas crescentes. No Paquistão uma menina de sete anos se opôs ao governo porque este faz quase nada para deixar o planeta habitável para ela e outros jovens.
