Worldlog Settimana 49 – 2013

Un bel successo! Le grandi catene di moda H&M, C&A e WE hanno indicato la scorsa settimana di fermare (temporaneamente) la produzione di lana d’angora. La gente ha protestato in massa tra le altre cose inviando questa settimana un’ e-mail di protesta attraverso il nostro sito. Nel quale chiediamo la catene di moda di smettere la vendita di prodotti d’angora. In meno di 24 ore dall’inizio dell’azione già 5000 e-mail sono stati spediti al servizio clienti dalle grande catene internazionali. Non è ancora chiaro se le case di moda fermano la vendita degli articoli di lana d’angora. Da H&M, è possibile restituire i vestiti. Seguiranno aggiornamenti.

Con l’azione delle e-mail, vogliamo affrontare l’enorme dolere che è afflitto agli animali con la produzione della lana d’angora. La settimana scorsa nel mio Worldlog ho già parlato dal fatto che l’organizzazione per il benessere degli animali PETA aveva portato all’aperto scioccante filmati fatto sotto copertura riguardante la produzione di lana d’angora in Cina. Il 90 percento dell’offerta mondiale della lana d’angora proviene dalla Cina, ed allora la maggior parte dell’abbigliamento con lana d’angora proviene da questi allevamenti cinesi molto crudele per gli animali.

Notizie di tutt’altro tipo è che domenica 24 novembre al congresso del Partito per gli Animali sono stati approvati dodici meravigliose liste di candidati per le elezioni comunali. Sono molto fiera del nostro partito perché partecipiamo in 12 comuni. E ‘stata ancora una volta una conferenza molto stimolante. Fantastico di essere assieme a tanti la pensano uguale!

La settimana scorsa è stata una settimana di grande aperture. Perché anche nel campo dei pesticidi abbiamo ottenuto una maggioranza del Parlamento dietro la nostra proposta di proteggere persone che vivono vicino a orticoltori che usano il veleno intensivo. Orticoltori che usano il molto pericoloso metam-sodio per fumigare il terreno devono smettere di fare questo. La Camera farà un dibattito, dopo la spinta della mio collega Esther Ouwehand, nei primi mesi del 2014 sugli effetti dell’uso di veleno sui vicini dei campi di piante bulbose.

Metam-sodio è un pesticida molto controversa ed è utilizzato tra l’altro nella coltivazione giglio. Il pesticida porta grandi pericoli per l’ambiente. Animali diventano avvelenati da esso e le persone possono avere gravi problemi di salute, come l’edema polmonare, se sono esposti all’evaporazione del pesticida. Già nel 1991, metam-sodio è stato quindi designato dal governo olandese come una sostanza che dovrebbe essere rimediato al più presto, e non più tardi del 2000. Questo non è accaduto. Dal 2010 esiste un divieto europeo, ma quello non è seguito nei Paesi Bassi. Sistematicamente il governo olandese concede deroghe per l’utilizzo del veleno.

Incredibile ma vero: I Paesi Bassi iniziano un centro di promozione caseario in Cina, mentre il 90 per cento dei cinesi si ammali di prodotti lattiero-caseario. La maggior parte dei cinesi è in realtà intolleranti al lattosio. Oltre a ciò il latte è anche un prodotto molto dannoso per l’ambiente, per il quale allora non dovrebbe essere aperto un centro di promozione.

The Guardian ha riferito la scorsa settimana che Al Gore è diventato vegano! Avrà visto il nostro documentario Meat the Truth? 😉

A great breakthrough! The big fashion chains H&M, C&A and WE have indicated last week to (temporarily) stop the production of angora wool. People have protested en masse this week by sending a protest mail via our website among other things. In this email we called fashion chains to stop the sale of angora products. Within 24 hours of the start of the action, already 5,000 mails were sent to the customer service of the big international chains. It is still unclear if the fashion houses are also going to stop selling angora wool products. At H&M you are allowed to return the clothing. To be continued.

With the email action we want to tackle the enormous animal suffering accompanying the production of angora wool. Last week, I already said in my Worldlog that animal welfare organisation PETA revealed some shocking undercover pictures of the angora wool production in China. 90 per cent of the world supply of angora wool is from China, thus, most of the clothing in which angora wool is processed comes from these Chinese, very animal-unfriendly, farms.

News from a completely different domain: Twelve great candidate lists have been approved for the municipal elections on the congress of the Party for the Animals on Sunday 24 November. I am proud that our party will participate in 12 municipalities. It was again a great inspiring congress. It was wonderful to be with so many like-minded people!

Last week was a week of breakthroughs. Because also in the field of agricultural pesticide, a majority of the Lower House members backed up our proposal to start protecting people who live close by agriculturists who intensively use poison. Agriculturists who use the very dangerous soil disinfectant Metam-natrium must stop using it. My colleague Esther Ouwehand will also urge the Lower House to hold a debate early 2014 on the effects of poison use on the people living in the neighbourhood of bulb fields.

Metam-natrium is a highly controversial pesticide that is used for the cultivation of lilies among others. The pesticide presents great dangers for the environment. Animals get poisoned by it and humans can suffer serious health problems from it, such as lung oedema, if they are exposed to the evaporation of pesticide. That’s why Metam-natrium was already destined to be banned by the Dutch government in 1991, as soon as possible but no later than 2000. That didn’t happen. A European ban is in place since 2010, but that’s not observed in the Netherlands either. Dutch governments systematically grant exemptions from use of the poison.

Unbelievable but true: The Netherlands is to start a dairy promotion centre in China while 90 percent of the Chinese become ill from dairy. Most Chinese are in fact lactose intolerant. Apart from that, milk is also a highly environmental damaging product, for which a promotion centre should certainly not be incorporated.
