Worldlog Settimana 48 – 2013
La settimana scorsa ho potuto assistere al telefono con la campagna telefonica di “giro555” per organizzare le donazioni per aiutare la gente nelle Filippine. Inoltre c’era l’asta della mia giacca che potete vedere sui nostri poster per la campagna.

Sono molto preoccupata sulla crescita di disastri naturali e la loro gravità. Gli scienziati che si applicano al clima dicono che il riscaldamento della terra causa gravi disastri naturali. Naturalmente non siamo sicuri se Haiyan sia un risultato diretto del cambio del clima, ma credo nello scenario di “no regret”: siamo co-responsabili per i cambiamenti climatici e dobbiamo agire per diminuire il nostro contributo a ciò, cambiando il nostro stile di vita. Il cambio del clima ha un grosso effetto su soprattutto paesi come le Filippine. Prendiamoci la responsabilità dall’occidente per i risultati climatici ed aiutiamo questi paesi. Cameron, il premier della Gran Bretagna vuole uno scenario “no regret” anche lui. Una delle poche volte che sono d’accordo con lui…

Il nostro film “La lepra nella Maratona”, sulla storia del Partito per gli Animali, ha vinto il premio per ‘Best Documentary on Animal Advocacy’ (miglior documentario sul patrocinio degli animali), durante il festival del film internazionale STEPS nell’Ucraina. E’ bello che un festival di film stimoli ulteriormente la discussione in Ucraina sui diritti dell’uomo, dell’animale e la natura. Ce n’è molto bisogno là. L’organizzazione per il benessere degli animali PETA ha fatto un filmino sulla crudele verità dietro la “produzione” di lana agora in Cina. Attenzione: le immagini sono scioccanti. E’ un filmino con un chiarissimo messaggio: non comprate le maglie di lana angora! La settimana scorsa ho fatto anche delle domande nella Camera sull’importo di prodotti di lana angora dalla Cina. Vogliamo un divieto europeo sui prodotti di lana angora.
Finché non ci sia tale divieto, deve esserci un chiaro sistemo di etichette, in modo che la gente possa fare una scelta di non comprare le maglie di lana angora (dalla Cina).

La settimana scorsa ho partecipato ad un dibattito sul futuro del nostro cibo. Durante il dibattito ho spiegato nuovamente che se lo stile di consumo olandese venisse adottato in tutto il mondo, avremmo bisogno di quattro pianete. Bill Gates ha detto che il futuro della carne è vegetale. Ed ha ragione.
In Norvegia l’esercito norvegese combatterà ad esempio un nuovo nemico: il cambio del clima. La loro arma è un “MeatFreeMonday” (lunedì senza carne). Leggetene di più qui.
Firmate anche la petizione per vietare alla cacciatrice americana Melissa Bachman di poter entrare in Sud Africa. Sul suo sito web potete vedere quali terribili metodi di caccia promuove quest’attrice americana.
Qualche tempo fa abbiamo inviato un premio a Bob Barker, un famoso personaggio televisivo degli Stati Uniti, per il suo ottimo lavoro per migliorare il benessere degli animali nella bio-industria. Si sentiva molto onerato ed ha inviato un messaggio alla stampa per esprimerlo. Che bello! Ha scritto: “I’m touched and moved to receive this recognition for my efforts to correct the inhumane treatment of farm animals. It’s gratifying and reassuring to know that this call to action is heard across international borders and leads to this kind of responsible political activism.” (Sono emozionato di ricevere questo riconoscimento per i miei impegni per correggere il trattamento inumano degli animali nelle fattorie. E’ gratificante e rassicurante sapere che questa chiamata di agire venga sentita oltre ai limiti internazionali e porti a questo tipo di attivismo politico responsabile)

I am extremely worried about the increasing number of natural disasters and the intensity with which they occur. Climate experts have affirmed that global warming causes severe natural disasters. Naturally, we do not know whether the typhoon Haiyan is a direct consequence of climate change, but I assume a no regret scenario: we are partly responsible for climate change, so let us now take real action to minimise our share by changing our way of life. We are the only political party who has made a documentary on the subject matter: http://vimeo.com/26566129
Climate change has major impacts, particularly on countries such as the Philippines. Let us from the West take responsibility for the consequences of our gigantic emissions of greenhouse gases and help those countries. Cameron, the prime minister of the United Kingdom also advocates a no regret scenario. It is one of the few occasions I agree with him …

During the STEPS international Film Festival in Ukraine, our film ‘The Pacer in the Marathon’, on the history of the Party for the Animals (PvdD), has won the award for Best Documentary on Animal Advocacy. It is good that a film festival further boosts the discussion in Ukraine on human and animal rights and nature preservation. It is badly needed there. Have you not seen The Pacer in the Marathon yet? The Dutch animal welfare organisation PETA has made a short film on the gruesome truth behind the ‘production’ of angora wool in China. Beware: the images are shocking. It is a film with a very clear message: Do not buy angora sweaters! Last week, I asked parliamentary questions about the import of angora products from China. We want a European import ban on angora products. As long as the ban is not in place, there must be a clear labelling system, so that people can choose not to buy angora sweaters (from China).

Last week, I participated in a debate about the future of our food. In the debate, I reiterated that if Dutch consumption patterns were to be adopted globally, we would need four globes. Bill Gates has said that the future of meat is plant-based. And so it is.
In Norway, for instance, the Norwegian army is going to combat a new enemy: climate change. Their weapon is a MeatFreeMonday. Read more about it here.
Sign the petition to deny American trophy hunter Melissa Bachman access to South Africa. On her website, you will see what horrible hunting practices this American actress promotes.
Some time ago, we sent a certificate of appreciation to Bob Barker, a major TV personality from the United States, for his remarkable work on improving animal welfare of animals in factory farming. He was very honoured and issued a press release about it last week. Great!
