Worldlog Settimana 38 – 2013

La settimana scorsa ho posto delle domande alla Camera sulla bruttissima notizia che decine di migliaia di cani randagi in Romania veranno uccisi. Per risolvere il percepito problema degli animali randagi, la settimana scorsa il parlamento rumeno ha votato con una stragrande maggioranza a favore di una legge che permette di cacciare i cani randagi, ucciderli avvelenandoli, picchiandoli o farli morire di fame in un canile. E’ veramente incredibile. Voglio che il nostro segretario di Economia parli col suo collega rumeno sul discorso dell’uccisione dei cani randagi.

In Romania vivono circa tre milioni di cani randagi. La nuova legge permette che dopo 14 giorni nel canile, il cane possa essere ucciso. E’ impercepibile che il governo rumeno permetta che i cani possano essere picchiati e che addirittura collabori con la distribuzione del veleno. Non deve esistere che un approccio così crudele possa essere utilizzato in un membro dell’Unione Europea!

Esistono varie iniziative online per convincere il presidente rumeno Trajan Basecu di non approvare questa legge. Lui è l’ultimo rimasto che deve firmare per attivare la legge. Fategli sapere che deve fermarla! Firmate l’iniziativa di PiepVandaag qui e quella dell’associazione di benessere per gli animali “viervoeters” qui.

Fortunatamente vi sono anche delle buone notizie dall’estero: a Bonaire hanno finalmente approvato l’iniziativa per salvare gli asini! A giugno abbiamo fatto delle domande alla camera sull’argomento, quando abbiamo scoperto che gli asini randagi su Bonaire vengono abusati ed uccisi.

Per fortuna che dopo le nostre domande alla Camera ha finito l’iniziativa dei trasportatori di bestiame di trasportare i vitelli in Turchia dall’età di nove settimane. Il segretario ha espresso di essere in favore delle normative europee che limiti la durata del trasporto ad otto ore e quindi non approva i trasporti di vitelli in Turchia.

Noi vogliamo un massimo di due ore di trasporto di bestiame, quindi ancora c’è un bel lavoro da fare. Alla fine basta portare gli animali di qua e di là! I trasporti lunghi portano grave malessere per gli animali. I camion vengono spesso riempiti più del consentito e molti animali non hanno a disposizione dell’acqua durante il lungo trasporto. Inoltre non riescono a riposarsi abbastanza e vengono trasportati anche col maltempo.

Importantissimo! Sempre più designer abbandonano la pelliccia. Ora anche la olandese Erny van Reijmersdal. Speriamo che ne seguiranno molti di più.

Last week I asked parliamentary questions about the gruesome news that Romania will cull tens of thousands of stray dogs. In order to solve their problem, the Romanian government voted en masse for an Act that allows random stray snatchings, and to kill them via poisoning, beating them to death, or letting them starve in shelters. This is truly unbelievable. I want our State Secretary of Economic Affairs to talk to her Romanian colleague about this mass murder of free-roaming dogs.

Romania has around three million stray dogs. The new act means stray dogs can be killed after remaining 14 days in a shelter. I cannot believe that the Romanian government is allowing dogs to be beaten to death and is even helping to disseminate poison. It should not be possible for European Union member state to carry out such a cruel plan!

Several e-mail petitions have been set up to convince Romanian President Trajan Basescu not to sign this act. After all, he is the only one left to sign this act into law, so let him know that this has to stop! Happy news from overseas. Bonaire has finally agreed to the donkey rescue plan! We asked parliamentary questions on this topic in June of this year when it appeared that free-roaming donkeys on Bonaire were being abused and killed.

Starting this week, my Worldlog will be translated into Croatian. Isn’t that great? Welcome to all my Croatian readers.

Fortunately, as a result of our parliamentary questions, we’ve managed to call a stop to cattle traders’ disgusting plan to transport nine-week old calves to Turkey. The State Secretary specified that she is an advocate of the European regulation that limits transport duration to eight hours and that is why she will not support calf transport to Turkey.

We want to shorten animal transport duration to a maximum of two hours, so we have quite a bit of work ahead of us. Because, shunting animals from pillar to post must stop! Long distance transport causes serious animal suffering. Lorries are usually overfilled and many animals have no access to food or water during their hours-long journey. The animals additionally receive insufficient rest and they’re even moved during extreme weather conditions.

Breaking news! Increasing numbers of top-end designers are refusing to use fur. Among them is leading Dutch designers Erny van Reijmersdal. Hopefully many more are to come.
