Neanche più un centesimo al settore suinicolo
Non dovrebbe essere dato più un centesimo del denaro dei contribuenti al settore suinicolo. Questo è quello che l’europarlamentare Anja Hazekamp ha detto nel Parlamento europeo durante un dibattito sulla crisi in corso nel settore suinicolo.
Dopo anni di produzione di più carne di maiale di quella richiesta, il settore suinicolo adesso è in difficoltà finanziaria. Bruxelles ha pompato quindi € 27.600.000 nella conservazione di carne di maiale prodotta in eccesso per sostenere gli allevatori di maiali. Quei soldi risultano essere insufficiente per il settore suinicolo, ed allora adesso si chiede ancora più soldi dell’UE.
Secondo il Partito per gli Animali è una cattiva idea: “Il congelamento agevolato di chili di carne che i commercianti di carne vorrebbero vendere anche pochi soldi è un rinvio di esecuzione. Continuare a pompare denaro nel mantenere artificialmente a galla un agroindustria in bancarotta non è una soluzione al problema: eccesso di offerta di carne di maiale. L’Europa deve affrontare la verità e non investire più un centesimo di investire di più in questo settore in bancarotta,” ha detto Hazekamp.
Benessere degli animali
Oltre ai problemi di soldi, ci sono anche dei grandi problemi di benessere degli animali nel settore suinicolo. I maiali sono tenuti in condizioni terribili e, quindi, sono violato le leggi sul benessere degli animali in modo sistematico.
“Tutt’ora milioni di suini in Europa sono ancora castrati senza anestesia. Molte allevatori di maiali tagliano in modo sistematico le code di maiale e tolgono i denti dei animali quando hanno solamente sette giorni di vita, mentre tutto ciò ed è stato vietato dal 1994. La crisi del settore suino è l’occasione per riformare l’agroindustria e trasformare fabbriche di maiali in aziende agricole. Chiusura delle mega stalle e passare alla produzione su piccola scala a misura d’uomo e l’attenzione al benessere degli animali,” dice Anja Hazekamp.
No more tax money should be spent on the pig industry. This was stated by MEP Anja Hazekamp in the European Parliament during a debate on the current crisis in the pig sector.
Because the pig industry has for years produced more pork than required, it is now in bad need of money. Brussels therefore pumped 27.6 million Euros into the storage of excess produced pork to support pig farmers. That money turned out to be insufficient for the pig industry and it is now asking for more money from the EU.
The Party for the Animals believes this is a bad idea: “The subsidised freezing of ‘kilo stunners’ by meat traders is putting off the evil day. Continuing to pump money into extending the life of the bankrupt factory farming industry will not solve the oversupply of pork. Europe must face the truth and should no longer invest in this bankrupt industry,” according to Hazekamp.
Animal Welfare
Besides having money problems, there is also the issue of animal welfare problems in the pig industry. Pigs are kept under appalling conditions and animal welfare regulations are systematically violated.
“Millions of pigs in Europe are still castrated without anesthetic. Many pig farmers cut off the piglets’ tails and pull their teeth systematically when they are only seven days old, even though this has been prohibited since 1994. The crisis in the pig industry is a perfect opportunity to reform the farm factory industry and to change pig factories back into pig farms. Shut the factory farms and change to small-scale production with human dimensions and an eye for animal welfare,” according to Anja Hazekamp.
