¡Hace calor en Holanda!. Esperamos que todas las personas y animales puedan resistir este ardor y que los animales ganaderos tengan suficiente agua y protección para defenderse un poco del ardiente sol. Debido al persistente calor, el Partido para los Animales ha pleiteado la semana pasada por un veto al transporte de ganado en los días en que el barómetro de mercurio suba de los 28 grados. Las autoridades de Alimentos y Mercancías en Holanda realizan controles en los transportes de animales para que sean cumplidas las reglas, pero según mi opinión, esto no es suficiente para garantizar el bienestar de los animales en los períodos de calor tropical. He pleiteado por una acción rápida de parte del Ministro de Agricultura, Naturaleza y Calidad Alimenticia, pensando en los próximos meses de verano. Las temperaturas altas son insostenibles para los animales en los vehículos ganaderos y los transportes pueden durar horas.

Además, el Partido para los Animales está indignado sobre la previsión de los Ministros de Agricultura y de Salud Popular para combatir la fiebre-Q, enfermedad de los caprinos que puede transmitirse a los humanos, por la cual en Holanda ya han muerto 15 personas. La semana pasada se informó nuevamente sobre un contagio de fiebre-Q en una guardería de cabras en Lunteren-Holanda. Según el Partido para los Animales con esto se confirma que es demasiado temprano para disminuir el veto de reproducción e importación de cabras, el que fue introducido aproximadamente medio año atrás para combatir la enfermedad, por eso se debe esperar la menos un medio año más. Con la reproducción de cabras infectadas sólo se consigue aumentar la cantidad de bacterias de fiebre-Q, que quedan libres especialmente en los partos y en los abortos.

El Partido para los Animales ya se había expresado anteriormente contra aligerar las medidas contra la fiebre-Q. Según mi opinión, el nuevo contagio demuestra cuán irresponsable es eliminar el veto de reproducción a partir del 15 de Julio. La gente puede enfermarse seriamente por la bacteria de la fiebre-Q y de esta manera aumenta justamente la cantidad de bacterias. El Ministro debe anunciar un veto de por vida para esta reproducción de cabras infectadas, igual como sucedió anteriormente en casos similares.

Y ahora las últimas informaciones de la negociación sobre formación de partidos en Holanda. El partido político más grande, el Liberal VVD, conversa ahora con el Partido para el Trabajo, Izquierda Verde y D66, sobre la formación del Gabinete. Aún no se han dehecho nudos esenciales, pero ahora se presentan los diferentes acuerdos entre los partidos. Espero que estos partidos tengan oportunidad de éxito para formar rápido un Gabinete.

Otra información: en Holanda comenzaron las vacaciones de verano y por eso no tendremos worldlog las próximas seis semanas. ¡Les deseo a todos un verano fantástico y …hasta fines de Agosto!.

It's hot in Holland! We hope that both people and animals will be able to ride out this heat and that animals in the fields will be given sufficient water and shelter to get away from the burning sun. Because of the persistent heat, the Party for the Animals argued for a ban on cattle transport on days where the mercury climbs above 28 degrees. In the Netherlands, the Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority carries out checks on animal transport to verify that transporters are observing the regulations but I believe these regulations cannot sufficiently guarantee animal welfare in times of tropical heat. I argued for quicker action from Minister Verburg and her Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality, with an eye to the coming summer months. The animals cannot bear the high temperatures in the cattle trucks, and transport can take hours.

The Party for the Animals is additionally indignant about the Ministers of Agriculture and Public Health's policy surrounding Q-fever. It is a disease found in goats that is communicable to humans, from which 15 people in the Netherlands have died. Last week yet another case of Q-fever infection was reported on a goat farm in Lunteren, the Netherlands. According to the Party for the Animals, this proves that it is far too early to ease the ban on breeding and transporting goats that was introduced six months ago to combat the disease. We should wait at least another half a year. Breeding infected goats increases the numbers of Q-fever bacteria which are mostly released during birth and abortions.

The Party for the Animals has already spoken out once against easing the measures against Q-fever. I believe this new infection shows how irresponsible it is to remove the transport and breeding ban as of 15 July. People can be severely sickened by the Q-fever bacteria, which only serves to increase the number of bacteria in the environment. The minister should announce a lifelong breeding ban as used to be dine in similar cases.

And finally a little news surrounding the governmental negotiations in the Netherlands. The largest party, the liberal People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD) is now talking with the Dutch Labour Party (PvdA), GroenLinks and D66 to form a cabinet. They have still have not worked out the most essential issues, but the differences and similarities between all the parties are now being charted. I hope that these parties can work together to form a cabinet.

One last bit of news: It's summer holiday time in the Netherlands and so for the next six weeks there will be no WorldLog. I wish everyone a fantastic summer and see you again at the end of August!
