Worldlog săptămâna 39 -2014

Săptămâna trecută a fost una importantă! Marți, 16 septembrie, s-a sărbătorit în Țările de Jos așa numita Ziua Prinților, adică ziua în care Cabinetul a făcut publice planurile pentru următorul an. Ulterior au avut loc dezbateri parlamentare, discutându-se Bugetul de Stat în Camera a Doua.

În fiecare an de Ziua Prinților, eu și colega mea Esther Ouwehand facem o declarație Cabinetului prin intermediul vestimentației noastre. Prin rochia ei, Esther a invocat stoparea vânătorii macabre de balene și a sacrificării delfinilor. Pe rochia ei, creată de brandul eco ArmedAngels, sunt brodate un harpon pătat de sânge și înotătoarea unui delfin în apă de culoare roșie. ‘Stop the killings!’ se poate citi pe partea din față a rochiei. Design-ul broderiei este realizat de Maria Tiqwah van Eldik. Imaginile sunt brodate pe rochie de către Janny Slik. Imaginile arată o frântură din ceea ce se întâmplă anual în golfurile din Japonia și în Insulele Feroe, unde sute de delfini sunt sacrificați. După cum s-a putut citi în Worldlog-ul meu anterior, Țările de Jos încep în sfârșit să se opună vânătorii de balene și sacrificării delfinilor, dar se pot opune și mai puternic!

Eu am purtat anul acesta o rochie creată de Erny van Reijmersdal, imprimată cu bancnote de 100 euro, drept protest împotriva greenwashing-ului. Bancnotele simbolizează interesele financiare care din nou sunt prioritare pentru Cabinet. Șalul verde și pălăria formează simbolul pentru greenwashing: camuflarea cu cuvinte verzi a unei politici dure și neprietenoase cu natura. Cabinetul ia în mare parte măsuri care servesc intereselor financiare, în timp ce promisiunile în interesul animalelor, naturii și mediului înconjurător nu se realizează. Auzim neîncetat cuvinte verzi, dar rămân doar cuvinte; un strat superficial de vopsea verde. Greenwashing pur

După noi, potopul: aceasta este viziunea pe termen scurt a Cabinetului. Pentru o lume care consumă precum o facem noi, este nevoie de patru globuri pamântești. Concepte ale Greenwashing-ului precum Creștere Verde și Tranziție durabilă nu pot masca realitatea. Majoritatea partidelor politice nu își mai pot imagina lumea fără creștere economică și datorii. Dar o creștere economică neîncetată pe o planetă muritoare este pur și simplu imposibilă. Va fi nevoie să ieșim din cercul vicios al creșterii economice, datoriei și dependenței de cumpărături.

Din fericire sunt și vești bune: în timpul dezbaterilor parlamentare am depus o moțiune prin care cerem Cabinetului să-și prezinte viziunea pe termen lung cu privire la politici climatice și de mediu. Această propunere a fost susținută de o majoritate parlamentară.

În încheiere, să-ți mai spun ceva. La începutul lui septembrie am povestit despre prelegerea impresionantă a australianului apărător de animale Philip Wollen. Acesta a vorbit pe 6 septembrie membrilor noștri în parlamentul olandez. Curios de povestea lui? Vezi aici discursul acestuia.

This was an important week! On Tuesday 16 September, it was Budget Day in the Netherlands, the day on which the Cabinet announces its plans for the year ahead. After that, the Parliamentary Debate on the Speech from the Throne was held, dealing with the National Budget in the Lower House.

Every year on Budget Day, my colleague Esther Ouwehand and I wear outfits as statements to the Cabinet. With her dress, Esther called to stop the gruesome whaling and dolphin slaughter. Her dress, of the eco brand ArmedAngels, had embroideries of a bloodstained harpoon and a dolphin fin in red water. On the front, it read ‘Stop the killings!’. The embroideries are designs of Maria Tiqwah van Eldik. The images were embroidered onto the dress by Janny Slik. The images show a glimpse of what happens in the bays of Japan and the Faroe Islands, where hundreds of dolphins are slaughtered every year. As you may have read in my previous Worldlog, the Netherlands are finally beginning to take a stand against whaling and dolphin slaughter, but that stand could be much stronger!

I myself wore a dress designed by Erny van Reijmersdal this year, with 100 euro notes as statement against greenwashing. The notes symbolise the financial interests the Cabinet has given top priority to again. The green stole and hat symbolise greenwashing: using green words to camouflage a cold and nature-unfriendly policy. The Cabinet takes measures particularly to serve financial interests, whereas ambitions for animals, nature and the environment are not realised. We keep hearing green words, but no more than that; a lick of green paint. Pure greenwashing.

We’ll deal with that when we get there: that is the short-term vision of the Cabinet. We need 4 globes for a world that consumes as we do. Greenwash concepts such as Green Growth and Sustainable Transition cannot disguise reality. Most parties can no longer imagine a world without growth and debts. But it is simply impossible to have infinite economic growth on a finite planet. We will have to break the vicious circle of economic growth, debts and squandermania.

Fortunately, there is also good news to report: during the Parliamentary Debate on the Speech from the Throne, we tabled a motion to call upon the Cabinet to come up with a long-term vision on climate and environmental policies. The motion was supported by a majority of the House!
