Exactamente dez anos antes do dia 22 de novembro fomos eleitos com duas cadeiras na Câmara Baixa. Portanto, uma boa ocasião para uma festinha. Nós festejamos com uma bela torta representando lama que fomos distribuir aos outros partidos políticos. Foi feito um filmezinho muito bom e apesar de ser em holandês, não quero privá-los dele pois as imagens falam por si!

Um pouco de história: exactamente dez anos atrás no dia 22 de novembro de 2006 o Partido para os Animais foi aderido ao parlamento holandês com duas cadeiras. Como foi maravilhoso aquele momento e ainda por cima foi uma estreia mundial. Pois nunca antes houve um partido num parlamento que defendesse os direitos dos animais e que não mais centralizasse os interesses de curto prazo do ser humano. Desde então foram fundados 18 partidos irmãos em outros países! No Portugal e na Austrália tais partidos obtiveram cadeiras nos parlamentos (regionais). No nosso país obtivemos no meio tempo 50 cadeiras distribuídas entre as Câmaras Alta e Baixa, as províncias, as administrações dos pólderes, os conselhos municipais e mais uma cadeira no Parlamento Europeu. Orgulho!

O que nós conseguimos em 10 anos? Nosso partido riscou o modo de pensar dos partidos tradicionais que abrange uma única questão. Cada um destes partidos representa uma só parte dos interesses humanos: um partido para os pobres, um partido para os ricos, para os cristãos, para os humanistas etc… Por 365 dias ao ano nós mostramos que precisamos nos livrar deste ponto de vista que centraliza o ser humano e que tem como enfoque principal os interesses económicos de curto prazo. Porque a longo prazo isto prejudica o bem-estar humano e animal, a natureza e o meio-ambiente. Nós somos o único partido com uma visão que abrange o inteiro planeta. Estou muito orgulhosa que somos como uma lebre na maratona que incentiva os outros partidos a correrem mais para o bem-estar animal, a natureza, o meio-ambiente e o clima.

Aqui seguem mais alguns cumes e êxitos dos últimos dez anos:

. O Partido para os Animais apresenta 41 moções num só debate. A Câmara Baixa fica estupefacta.

. Crescente Resistência: o Partido para os Animais compra e com isto redime natureza na Holanda.

. O Partido para os Animais faz o primeiro filme holandês sobre o clima: Meat the Truth.

. Criação da Animal Politics Foundation: no mundo inteiro brotam partidos políticos para os animais.

. A importação de troféus de caça de mais que 200 espécies de animais é proibida.

. Lançamento do guichê Gifkikker (rã venenosa): onde pessoas podem relatar incómodos causados por tóxicos na agricultura.

. One Single Planet: o filme sobre soluções que deixam o nosso planeta habitável para futuras gerações.

. Proposta de lei: Abate Ritual Sem Anestesia foi aceita com maioria esmagadora.

. Sustentabilidade faz parte do currículo escolar.

Nós comemoramos nosso aniversário falando bastante tempo sobre nossos ideais durante o tratamento do orçamento de Assuntos Económicos onde falamos durante 75 minutos em total. Um dos assuntos mais importantes naquela noite foi a transformação da agricultura na Holanda. Na UE nós somos um dos países com a menor cota em agricultura biológica. Já chegou a hora para Plano B.

Um outro belo êxito na semana passada foi a apresentação das pessoas que empurram nossa lista para as eleições da Câmara Baixa. Na lista constam entre outros o artista Johan de Haas com 93 anos de idade e a aluna Malou Herstel com 16 anos de idade. Assim, o PpoA tem tanto o mais velho quanto o mais jovem candidato na lista, ambos propagadores da importância do Plano B para as gerações futuras! Que bom.

E novamente uma grande quantidade de líderes de opinião, artistas e cientistas mostraram-se dispostos a empurrar nossa lista. Estamos felicíssimos com este amplo apoio de pessoas proeminentes. Pois os empurradores de lista nos ajudam a incentivar os eleitores a ler além de nosso nome. Conforme recente pesquisa de opinião existe um potencial de eleitores para o Partido para os Animais de 12%. Ainda temos um mundo a ganhar 😉

On 22 November, it was exactly ten years ago since we were elected in the Lower House with two seats. Time to celebrate. We have celebrated by treating the other Lower House members to a piece of beautiful ‘pigs in the mud cake’. We have made a nice video about it which I would love you to see – it is in Dutch, but the images really don’t need any explaining!

A short history: on 22 November 2006, precisely ten years ago, the Party for the Animals first entered the Dutch Parliament with two seats. What a great moment that was, as well as a world first. Because never before had a political party – one that did not put people’s short-term interests centre-stage and that stood up for animal rights – entered the parliament. Since that day, eighteen other countries have established a sister party! In Portugal and Australia, the parties have also entered the (regional) parliaments. The Dutch Party for the Animals now has a total of 50 seats, distributed among the Senate and the Lower House, the provinces, water boards, municipal councils, and one seat in the European Parliament. So proud!

What have we achieved in the past ten years? Our party deals with the single issue politics of the traditional political parties, which all represent the particular interests of the people: a party for the poor, a party for the rich, a party for Christians, a party for humanists and so on. 365 days a year, we insist that we must banish this human-focused way of thinking and this primary focus on short-term economic interests, as in the long term, this will be at the expense of the welfare of people and animals, nature, wildlife and the environment. We are the only party with a planet-wide vision. I am incredibly proud to be the pacer in the marathon that inspires other parties to work harder towards animal welfare, nature, environment and climate.

The following are a few of our highlights and successes from the past 10 years:

• Party for the Animals tabled 41 motions during one debate. Lower House members were speechless.
• Growing opposition: Party for the Animals bought and saved natural site in the Netherlands.
• Party for the Animals makes the first Dutch Climate film: Meat the Truth.
• Establishment of the Animal Politics Foundation: political parties for the animals were founded all over the world.
• Import of hunting trophies of over 200 animal species was banned.
• Launch of contact point Gifklikker: anyone who experiences any inconvenience from agricultural toxins can contact this hotline.
• One Single Planet: a film offering solutions to preserve the liveability of our planet for future generations.
• Private member’s bill on Unstunned Ritual Slaughter adopted by an overwhelming majority.
• Sustainability has become a regular topic in the Dutch school curriculum.

We celebrated our anniversary with ample time, namely 75 minutes, to talk about our ideals during the debate on the budget of Economic Affairs. One of the main topics that evening was the transformation of Dutch agriculture. We are one of the countries in the EU with the smallest percentage of organic agricultural land. Time for Plan B.

Another success during the past week was the presentation of our ‘lijstduwers’: the Dutch term for a group of people, often well-known non-politicians such as artists and sports people, who are at the bottom of a party list during the Lower House elections. Our list includes 93-year-old artist Johan de Haas and 16-year-old schoolgirl Malou Herstel: the oldest and the youngest candidates on the Party for the Animals’ party list, both promoting the importance of Plan B for future generations! Remarkable.

We have also found a great number of opinion leaders, artists and scientists willing to act as ‘lijstduwers’. We are delighted with this broad support of leading public figures, as they help us to motivate Dutch voters to look beyond the name of our party. A recent opinion poll shows that 12 % of Dutch citizens are considering to vote for the Party for the Animals. We have a world to win. 😉
