PACMA behaalt 30% meer stemmen voor congres dan eind 2015

PACMA schrijft opnieuw geschiedenis in de nationale verkiezingen van zondag 26 juni. Met een ongekend aantal van meer dan 284.000 stemmen voor het congres en 1.200.000 stemmen voor de senaat heeft de partij het resultaat uit december 2015 ruim overtroffen.

Ondanks het grote aantal stemmen krijgt de partij geen zetels in parlement of senaat – ongekend in de Spaanse parlementaire geschiedenis. Dit komt door de manier hoe het kiesstelsel en de kieskringen gereld zijn in Spanje. PACMA zet zich daarom in voor een wet waarin elke stem hetzelfde waard is en doet een dringend beroep op partijen die wel een zetel behaalden om een hervorming van de Spaanse kieswet in gang te zetten.

Toch maakt deze uitslag wederom duidelijk dat PACMA van groeiende, niet te stuiten politieke betekenis is, en dat ook in Spanje veel mensen hun stem geven aan een partij die niet in eerste instantie gericht is op korte termijn mensenbelangen, maar die opkomt voor dieren, het milieu en sociale rechtvaardigheid.

Bij de volgende Europese verkiezingen zou deze uitslag betekenen dat PACMA in het Europarlement vertegenwoordigd wordt, wat een mijlpaal in de geschiedenis van dierenrechten in Spanje zou betekenen.

PACMA writes history again in the national elections of Sunday the 26th of June. With an unprecedented number of over 284,000 votes for the Congress and 1,200,000 votes for the Senate, the party has largely exceeded the result of December 2015.

Despite the large number of votes, the party is not awarded any seats in the parliament – unprecedented in Spanish parliamentary history. This is because of how the electoral system and the electoral district work in Spain. PACMA is therefore aiming for a law in which every vote is worth the same and it urges the parties which were given a seat to start reforming the Spanish electoral law.

But this result has again shown that PACMA is growing unstoppably and that also in Spain many people vote for a party that is not in the first instance focussed on short-term human interest, but that stands up for animals, the environment and social justice.

In the next European elections this result would mean that PACMA will be represented in the European Parliament, which would be a milestone in the history of animals rights in Spain.
