A tutti un felice, sano e amichevole per gli animali 2014!
La settimana scorsa sono stata in Portogallo e a Madera dalla nostra sorella partito PAN. Una riunione molto istruttivo dove il nostro film La Lepre nella Maratona e stato rappresentato a Lisbona e Madera! Anche il partito per gli animali spagnola PACMA era presente.
Quest’anno abbiamo nuovamente insistito per un divieto sui fuochi d’artificio di consumo. Fuochi d’artificio possono a nostro avviso essere usati in spettacoli pirotecnici organizzati professionalmente. Il dolore, la paura e lo stress negli animali e fastidio e danni a persone e l’ambiente sono per molte persone una ragione sufficiente per cambiare la tradizione dei fuochi d’artificio. Nonostante il crescente sostegno per il divieto di fuochi d’artificio di consumo, purtroppo, non esiste ancora una maggioranza parlamentare a favore della nostra proposta. Ma quest’anno torniamo a lavorare energicamente con questa faccenda, in mode che tutti possono godere i bellissimi fuochi d’artificio, senza gravi danni per gli esseri umani, gli animali e l’ambiente.
Nei Paesi Bassi, centinaia di persone subiscono per gravi lesioni intorno a Capodanno, tra cui un gran numero di bambini. Circa la metà delle vittime erano astanti che nemmeno hanno fatto esplodere i fuochi d’artificio. L’ultimo fine dell’anno 810 persone sono state trattate con urgenza all’ospedale per lesioni che erano causa di fuochi d’artificio, tra cui lesioni agli occhi. Questa cosa può e deve cambiare!
Fine del 2013, abbiamo ottenuti sono ancora alcuni belli successi. E quindi siamo molto soddisfatti della decisione del governo di annullare in parte i tagli alla autorità olandese per gli alimenti e prodotti (NVWA). Ci saranno finalmente più soldi per il monitoraggio e mantenimento, in particolare nel settore della salute animale e della sicurezza alimentare. Inoltre il sottosegretario promette 100 nuovi posti di lavoro fissi e 60 posti di lavoro temporanei per poter eseguire più controlli nel settore zootecnico.
Ma anche la prassi secondo cui il macellaio può approvare letteralmente la propria carne, deve finire, e dove la NVWA rimane a grande distanza. Un cambiamento di sistema nel modo in cui il nostro cibo viene prodotto è essenziale: l’industria alimentare attuale mira a produrre il più possibile in modo più economico possibile. Ciò ha portato a opportunismo, un cattivo trattamento degli animali e alimenti a rischio. Il benessere degli animali e qualità degli alimenti, garantito dal governo, deve essere messo al primo posto!
In aggiunta ci sono una serie di emendamenti alla legge sulle sperimentazione animale che hanno fatto si che ora ci sono regole più severe sulla sperimentazione animale. Cosi ci saranno per esempio, per l’utilizzo di scimmie per la sperimentazione animale delle regole più severe e le decisioni del comitato che autorizza per al sperimentazione animale sarò pubblica, in mode che tali decisioni saranno appellabili.
Noi continuiamo ad impegnarci per porre fine a tutte le sperimentazioni su animali al più presto. Grazie al nostro impegno l’argomento non può più essere eliminato dell’agenda politica, ed ora vengono anche gli altri partiti con proposte per ridurre l’uso di animali da sperimentazione!

I wish everyone a happy, healthy, and animal-friendly 2014!
Last week, I visited our sister party PAN in Portugal and on Madeira. It was a very educational and delightful meeting, during which our film The Pacer in the Marathon was shown in Lisbon and on Madeira! The Spanish party for the animals, PACMA, was there as well.
This year, we called on a ban on consumer fireworks again. In our view, fireworks may only be set off in professionally organised firework shows. For many people, the pain, fear and stress in animals, and the nuisance and damage to people and the environment are sufficient reasons to change the fireworks tradition. Unfortunately, despite the growing support for a ban on consumer fireworks, there is still no Parliamentary majority for our proposal. Nonetheless, we will work vigorously on this issue again in the year to come, so that everyone can enjoy beautiful fireworks without the major damage to people, animals or the environment.
In the Netherlands, hundreds of people suffer serious injuries around New Year’s Eve, including many children. Approximately half of the victims are bystanders, who do not even set off any fireworks themselves. In the last New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day period, 810 people were treated in hospital emergency rooms for fireworks-related injuries, including injuries to eyes. This should and can change!
Several satisfactory successes were still achieved at the end of 2013. For example, we are very happy with the decision of Government to partially reverse cutbacks on the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA). Finally, more money will be made available for supervision and enforcement, particularly in the areas of animal welfare, animal health and food safety. In addition, the State Secretary promised 100 structural additional jobs and 60 temporary jobs to allow for more inspections in the animal sector.
However, the situation where butchers literally inspect the very meat they sell, with the NVWA remaining at bay, should also end. It is essential that our food production system will change: the present food industry focuses on producing as much as possible in the cheapest way possible. This has led to opportunism, poor handling of animals and unsafe food. Animal welfare and the quality of food, safeguarded by Government, must come first again!
In addition, several amendments to the Testing on Animals Act were carried, so that stricter rules now apply to animal testing. For example, the use of monkeys in animal testing will be subjected to stricter rules and decisions of the committee that issues permissions for animal testing will become public, so that the decisions can be appealed.
We remain committed to ending all animal testing as soon as possible. Thanks to our commitment, the issue has become part and parcel of the political agenda and also other parties now come up with proposals to reduce the use of animals for testing!
